This statement is exactly what this is all about. Everyone's experience is different . Some have had family members and themselves suffer lifetimes of harassment by police. While others have family who are police and know them as good people and heroes even and they are scared for their lives every time they walk out the door to work.
How can we we bridge these contrasting differences... How can we feel compassion for both of these contrasting stories. Because they are both true..... And right now it is true, true as can be, that officer Wilson is respectable cop and wonderful person... And it is also true about MB the "friendly giant" we all heard about the first couple days ... Both of these stories are true to those close to these two different people. Why can't we just have compassion for both sides and wait for the truth to come out. If we have learned anything about this whole mess it is that people are willing to lie with conviction for what they believe in.
I say wait for the truth before you judge.

Of course and I agree with your sentiments. But it is very hard for me to sit back patiently and quietly, when I see the hordes of protestors calling for Officer wilson to be DEAD, and setting fire to stores and stealing and throwing molotov cocktails, and promising to keep on doing so until Wilson IS FOUND GUILTY.

Maybe what needs to be corrected is cops thinking the best way to deal with cocky, mouthy teens is with a gun??

Not if they're punching the cop in the face, assaulting him and trying to steal their weapon. Wilson would most likely be dead right now if Mike had succeeded to get control of that gun.

Guess who would be protesting after that? NOBODY

THINGS THAT DO NOT PERTAIN TO THIS CASE:
1.) Any other cases where blacks have been unjustly
2.) The demographics of the Ferguson Police Department
3.) Michael's age
4.) Michael's nor Wilson's race
5.) Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Governor Nixon, Eric Holder or Barrack Obama
6.) The media
7.) Any of us here

WHAT DOES MATTER TO THIS CASE:
1.) Was Officer Wilson justified in shooting Michael Brown, i.e., did he have reasonable fear of immediate bodily harm or death?

Thanks Duchess and I wholeheartedly agree. I was about to ask if we could have another thread for people to talk about most of the above if they so choose.

I think Officer Wilson naively believes that he will one day be able to come back to active duty and be a cop so he is keeping his head down and probably listening to his police superiors and possibly his union rep and trusting them not to throw him to the wolves. I'm not sure that trust is his best strategy, but it's probably what I would do if I was rattled over the shooting and truly believed it was justified and that I would eventually be exonerated. :(

I read somewhere (possibly the FB page set up for him) where it was casually mentioned he has a lawyer, and I'm sure he does.

I'm sure he's being advised to keep quiet, and remain unseen. Whether or not that ends up being in his best interest only time will tell.

I'm thinking that possibly he's not making any statements b/c the less he has out there in the form of statements, or recountings of events via a lawyer, the less chance there is his own words can be used to discredit him if there were any misquotes or inaccuracies. Think Dorian Johnson.

Kelly File just reported DJ was arrested 3yrs ago for theft he lied said name Derrick and he was 16 yet he was 19 and had failed to appear to court.

Glad to see he learned his lesson and put the cigarillos back on the counter. Smart move on his part.

The strong arm robbery video made a huge impression on me and totally blew the "gentle giant" narrative out of the water.

The fact it occurred mere minutes before his confrontation with officer Wilson shows me Browns state of mind.

The witnesses and the Brown family attorney describing MORE than a TUSSLE at the vehicle.

I'm judging.
It was a justifiable shoot.

All IMO

The strong arm robbery video made a very strong impression on me also. He was very bullying and belligerent and over powering that poor little man.It really bothered me. He was not calm and he was not humble at all. I agree this showed his frame of mind when he left that store. Maybe this attitude got him killed.

But it goes to his character as a witness he has previous run in with LE in which he was not truthful and not to beat a dead horse but.. did not show personal responsibility for his actions with his failure to face the consequences for said actions.

Just watched an interesting exchange on Anderson Cooper. He had Mark O'Mara on (Trayvon Martin's attorney) and O'Mara said that he was very surprised that we have not heard from a lawyer representing Wilson. O'Mara said it is important to hear from supporters of Wilson in order to counter the narrative being put out by the MB family attorneys. Also on the program was the president of the St Louis police association. He couldn't confirm that Wilson has an attorney . He added that if he was advising Wilson he would tell him to "keep his head down". I wonder if the president of the St Louis police association has been advising Wilson and if this is why we have not seen a counter narrative put forward by supporters of Wilson?

I think they are making a big mistake with this approach. Right from day one Wilson should have had an attorney to represent him in the media who could counter the false narratives being created.

I think he is keeping his head down until after the Grand Jury presentations. My dad was a defense attorney and he always told his clients to sit down and shut up. jmo

More people need to read and re-read Gardenlady's post. No matter what you think of MB, society needs to understand that this happens and happens often. This is what the protests are about not this particular shooting...... I highly encourage everyone to give this a few minutes thought, especially if you haven't been subjected to it... Imagine what it must feel like... Just imagine it..

I understand what you're getting at. But I must state that the question needs to be flipped to the other perspective too.
What could cause the reverse----what could inspire a dislike? I am sincerely asking if you could venture down that path for a moment.

That being said, I try to resist anger and hatred because it destroys a person from within.
I may appear to others to have the proverbial "knapsack of privilege" -- although I doubt many would want to walk in my shoes if they could see past the exterior.
And so it is chanted and/or implied that I must be a racist due to my skin color. Yep, I hear it and will still not let hate fester inside of me.
Because I am better than that.
I am tougher than that.

Regardless of skin color, treat everyone with respect and fairness.

I think the overall majority of protesters are asking for justice. Although they may believe justice means Wilson convicted.
Why do you think there are so many that hold this conviction, yet here on Websleuths it seems we are getting the exact opposite reaction? I don't know the answer to that, I am asking because I really would like to know peoples opinions why.

Support for Officer Wilson is fast approaching $185,000.

I'm so happy to see that people are educating themselves about the facts of this case and not listening to the propaganda and such being spewed forth by MSM, attorneys and "activists" with agendas.

Unfortunately, I have a horrible feeling that Officer Wilson will be sacrificed because most higher ups don't have the guts to stand firm on what is right. I hope I'm wrong.

I agree that is always good advice for clients. Anyone facing charges should keep their mouths shut and let their lawyer do the talking. This is what is missing here. Wilson doesn't have a lawyer in front of the camera's doing the talking. In most high profile cases it is normal for lawyers to try their clients case in the media, i.e. court of public opinion before it gets to a real court room.
