I'm confused, KY3 just said they called LE to confirm the amber alert had been cancelled to be told their source was a valuable source but their info is incorrect and the amber alert has NOT been cancelled.

If they had found the body why isn't it cancelled? Could they have found 'A' body but they have not been able to formally determine its hailey?

The family are confirming they have found the body, LE may be doing this at 11am but KY3 just said as of now the amber alert is still active.

Yes, they might be waiting on formal identification.

They might have found evidence that leads them to assume she's dead, such as blood or a bloody weapon, but not the body.

Or maybe they found more than one body  Somebody who's been missing for a while whose family has to be notified as well.

Does anyone know if Hailey was found at his home or at Phelps Grove Park or elsewhere? The park is not far from where Wood was located.

As a resident of Springfield, I'm appalled. This is really a rare thing for our area. What makes it even worse is that this monster was employed by the school system. Ugh.

The crime scene is less than five minutes from my home. After the press conference, I may drive by because I think I know exactly what house this is where she was found. It's in a very nice area of town.

By the way, to all the people speculating that he was her teacher, that isn't true. The school he worked at was on the extreme north side of town, almost in the country. She lived on the west side of town. It's probably a twenty or thirty minute drive from her home to the school he worked at.

Was he registered? Why and how could they miss that?

No I assume he was not registered. that's why there needs to be some other way to suss these creeps out. Most sex offenders are NOT registered because they have never been caught yet . It's so disturbing.

I am sure the LE would do a cross reference with him and see if there is a matching timeline when others in the area went missing.

I'm just smh at your post. How can you say "it's not LE's fault"?
MHP IS LE! Plus,, Springfield PD has full authority on their own to issue an Amber Alert. They do not have to wait or hand over details to another LE agency for that agency to issue the A/A.

SPD should have had that A/A issued within the first 15 minutes! Not 2+ hours later by MHP!

On the other note, I see everyone praising the witnesses. Quite frankly, I think the praising of them is excessive, to say the least. If I saw a 45-ish yr old man driving down the street 4-5 times, then pull near a 10 yr old girl, and hear him trying to coax her into his vehicle, you can rest assured I won't just be sitting there in the garage "witnessing" it and jot down his plate number afterward. I'd be up outta that chair and in full run towards him to see what business he had with that little girl.

Do you all think it's ok not to even "get involved" at a higher level, when it comes to safeguarding children on the streets? Just sit there and watch an abduction without moving an inch prior?

I think that's completely unfair to the witnesses. The guy said it took less than ten seconds for it all to happen. When you're sitting there and seeing this going on, who in earth thinks a criminal will be this brazen to grab her in front of witnesses? It's very rare, despite all the cases that come to our attention here. When he realized what was going on, he acted.

Lets keep the blame exactly where it belongs - on Craig Wood. I see so many comments trashing these witnesses who did everything they possibly could - even to point of racist remarks against him! :furious: It's ridiculous, and makes me feel its no wonder that often people truly DON'T get involved. Why the hell would they, when they'll just suffer being torn apart by the public for not doing things 100% perfectly??? :furious:

Edited to add - the comments I am seeing about the witnesses are on media FB pages, and media webpages, not here other than the one quoted.

I'm beyond livid. I got on this morning thinking I'd see she was found safe, I thought he was headed to OK and police were on top of him.

WTH happened?

Excuses for not issuing the amber alert? Really? I am not cutting them any slack. They had a description of the vehicle, plate number, description of the man. They could have issued the amber alert. Certainly local people could have had an eye out within the first few minutes of the abduction instead of finding out 2 hours later.

I wonder how many people saw him after he kidnapped her before the amber alert was issued?

I'm angry.

I haven't heard that, but I have heard that the command post was set up at the art museum near Phelps Grove.

Dear God I hope she wasn't found at the park. I was just there yesterday walking my dogs. I think the house where he was caught was much closer to Glenstone than National. I really hope the park isn't connected to all of this. ... It makes me sick thinking he left her out in the open.

I will drive by the park in the next few hours and see if there's any police presence.

It probably took seconds for him to grab her.

True for the "only seconds to grab her", but by the witnesses own statements they were sitting in a nearby garage in plain view of the Wood and the victim prior to him stopping. The witness and his wife also stated they had time to hear the "conversation" between Woods and the victim. So not exactly an instantaneous stop, grab, and run.

There's plenty in the scenario that this was not anyone the witness knew. I still believe had the witness hollered and ran towards Wood, things are likely to have ended quite different.

What? If AA is still active........then reports of a body found may be inaccurate? What the heck?

Well I'll go out on a golden limb here and say despite murder charges, there is a tiny glimmer of hope ! Come on Hailey, beat the odds baby girl!

Activation
Once it has been determined that AMBER Alert criteria has been met, a Missouri Amber Alert Abduction Form should be completed and faxed to Missouri State Highway Patrol Communications at 573-751-6814 (Phone 573-751-1000). Once this has been done, a MULES and NCIC Missing Person computer entry must initiated immediately by the reporting agency as required in the National Child Search Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. 5779, 5780). The state AMBER Alert coordinator or their designee will contact the reporting agency and make a determination if the required AMBER Alert criteria have been met to issue a statewide or state regional alert. Troop F Communications will then disseminate the alert according to guidelines established within the Alert Missouri system. The Alert Missouri system and our EAS configuration will allow alerts to be sent to one of nine regions within the state.
