To have gone into a populated area in broad daylight with his license plate clearly visible, etc makes me think this was something he had been thinking about, but had perhaps been in "cool off" mode for a while, when he suddenly lost his impulse control shortly before the incident. He then went hunting, like a drug addict might go when he's desperate for drugs.

My guess would be that there might have been a trigger shortly beforehand. I would also guess he does something like this once or twice a year. At 45 years old we could possibly be looking at a very, very large number of victims. Unfortunately, I think there should be a specific thread here just for looking at his possible victims and tracing his whereabouts. I would hope to see folks like Bessie and Foxfire there (just to name a couple), who are pros in this area. Bessie, may I please request a thread like this? TIA

Everything is jmo.

Interesting that the FBI collected his 4 or 5 bags of laundry from the Laundromat, but he was pulling up into his driveway with just duct tape. (I know the fbi collected the laundry hours later)

He left his laundry, while he went home...... instead of waiting for it to be done and bringing it home with him.

Very unusual,, I agree fully. I sense he was "rushed" in many actions.
IMO, I think the majority of CMW's actions, especially the rapidness of his murder of Hailey, had a lot to do with his mindset of knowing it was not an unnoticed abduction, and he knew that quite possibly there was enough descriptive info on him that LE would soon be "hot on his heels".

I think that in itself made him kill her virtually immediately after abduction and a semi-panicked rush to try to handle disposal of all evidence.

Slightly O/T:

I've noticed that for me, there is actually a physical effect on my body when things like this happen. It's so overwhelming that there is literally an internal struggle within myself to overwhelm these effects, and pull it together so I can do my job. I can literally feel a butterfly-like, sinking, empty hole feeling in my stomach. My chest is tight (pressing sensation), heart rate irregular, shortness of breath like a panicky feeling. Burning in my eyes that feel like a dam about to overflow...

For Hailey's family, their pain is uncomparable to anything listed above. If I was a family member, I'd probably be in the hospital. They would have to pump me full or drugs, seriously, or Id think I might keel over. May Hailey's family find all the strength, love, peace, healing, comfort possible at this indescribable time.

I know exactly what you mean. I have the upmost respect for everyone that works these cases. I can not even follow them closely.

He probably did rape the child if he was washing his bedding. Makes me very sick to think about this one. In Missouri they have the death penalty and it would surprise me if this isn't a death penalty case. The aggravating factors would be:

1. Committing murder during the act of a felony - the kidnapping

2. Cruelty - binding her and shooting her execution style to the back of the head.

3. The age of the victim

This response is phenomenal. It's all over my Facebook but I had no idea it was so spread out. I pray that Hailey's family feels our love and support.

Talked to my co-worker whose son had CMW for ISS on Tuesday. Her son said that he acted normal didn't appear to be preoccupied or upset about anything. He said they talked about dogs (CMW just got a puppy and he was trying to train the dog to not bite), horses, sports and lots of other things. He was with CMW from 8:30 - 2:45. Now the thing that did bother her son and her is that they have ISS in a trailer not in the school and it was just the two of them that day.

Thank you for sharing. It's scary to know that he spent entire days alone in a trailer with children, especially on the days he was alone one on one with them.

Do you know if there were other classrooms in the trailer or other teachers? When I was in middle school we were having a new school built and my grade had to attend classes in trailers until the building was complete. There were 2 classrooms per trailer in my instance.

Does anyone get the vibe of "sociopath" from his mugshot? No emotion at all in his eyes or face.

Also - maybe I'm being too snobby but I was under the impression teachers are to have a professional appearance & dress. I understand he was not a certified teacher, but he was a full-time paraprofessional. I've just never seen a male teacher an appearance similar to his.

I believe he was "noticed" at the laudromat that evening. Even before it turned into an Amber Alert, the media was all over this. They monitor scanners all the time. That is how they show up at fires, etc. shortly after the authorities. But after 7:00 or so it was in full Amber Alert. Local media was interrupting regular programming etc. Those laundries have TV's going all the time for people to watch while they do their laundry.

I know this is not much consolation to anyone, but I just want to say, if this 🤬🤬🤬 was not apprehended, the fear the community would be feeling right now would be additionally traumatizing. I can not describe this effect on a community, the absolute terror...the fear for our kids.. we all experienced this after they found Jessica's body, knowing the killer was so close and could be anyone---you look at everyone in the grocery store, etc, wonder if its them, you even wonder about people you know, neighbors, coworkers, words can not describe the absolute horror of this...and what this does to the victim's classmates, children...I really really really hope there are good counselors in place for these kids, teachers, LE and all of their community. I would assume there is a good system that has been put into place.

Springfield has a new crime lad so hopefully we will not have to wait long for any testing from the autopsy that would have to be done.

Another article I read said that school was closed on Monday, and that Hailey stayed home sick on Tuesday, so her classmates last saw her at the Valentine party the previous week.

If school was closed the day before the abduction, maybe something happened on that day off that was a trigger for CMW.

Also, JMO, but I don't think it's likely he was looking specifically for Hailey while driving up and down that street; no indication he'd have had previous acquaintance with her (at this point, at least). If she'd made an impromptu trip to a friend's house on a Tuesday after school (a day she'd been absent from school, in fact), it's not like it was a regular pattern for her to be walking there at that particular time of day. I think he was just driving around, scouting for an opportunity, and once he saw her, maybe circled around a couple times so as to have an approach. If she didn't stay long at the friend's house or go in, then it's possible he could have seen and followed her TO the friend's house, and then circled around a bit when she didn't go in, waiting for her to be walking again.

WHy did he have to shoot her? People saw him and could ID him from the vehicle which would eventually led to him. He must have known he would have been caught. WTH? WHY???? Shoot yourself and let her go.

Yeah this whole thing confuses me. Did I read a neighbor actually tried to pull Hailey away? And others were right on his tail? So he knew he would be caught. Despite that, he continued on with great determination. He stalked and tore this child away in full view of others. What kind of rabid animal is this person? So intent on taking a baby that he didn't Even care who saw him.

I'm pretty shocked. And killing her, to what end? He had to have known he was going to be caught.

And how has this desperate, rabid animal been able to work with children for so long without incident? Many people better be talking with their kids today. Scary.

There just isn't a punishment painful enough for this type of monster. Insa skin him alive little by little and pour vinegar on him!

That, alone, would've been alarming to me, and not even in retrospect. I had ISS a few times in middle and high school and one of the major aspects of the punishment is social isolation, not even talking at lunch. I think we had a few ISS teachers but they always looked miserable to be there and would certainly not have tolerated small talk. I would've felt pretty confused/uncomfortable if an ISS teacher was getting chatty with me when we had to be alone all day (regardless of gender).

As for the laundry... if it's anything like the coin laundries I'm thinking of, you don't have to sign in or get a tag for your laundry or anything. If he left without it he probably was hoping to leave it there unclaimed. That way the laundromat would keep it maybe for a few days to see if the owner was going to come back, and after that they'd throw it away or donate it to a thrift store/homeless shelter.

Even harder to trace.

I feel the same way margarita25 I suffer from depression because of what happened to me (medical negligence left me disabled) and the cases here particularly ones like this make it worse. It's important when cases are affecting any of you badly to go away and do something you enjoy to make you feel better. For me its adult lego and my cat and fish.

According to the articles Hailey's mum is in denial about what has happened. I hope her family get all the help they need to survive this. Not only will they have lost Hailey but have years of waiting for a trial to start prolonging the agony even more.

I'll be honest, I was super surprised by his appearance and was shocked that there weren't abundant reports about him giving off a creepy vibe. His pictures creep me out.

O/T, but I wonder if there has ever been a study done of testosterone levels in people like this (I'm sure there has). The reason why I say testosterone is because of all the violence and killing committed by 17-22 year olds I've noticed recently. I've been wondering if testosterone might or might not play a factor. This clicked to me the other day for some reason when I heard someone say something about "too much testosterone"...What about the levels in a 45 year old man? Just thinking out loud...If its not testosterone, what "chemical" (or lack thereof) is it? Could it be some kind of vitamin deficiency (seriously). These people are wired differently imo. Sure, there may be external, environmental factors that could play a role (for example being abused as a child, violent video games, etc), but I just wonder what it is in someone's brain that makes them inclined to want to abuse / kill a child. jmo

eta: IIRC, a bull shark has more testosterone than any other creature on earth, and leads the shark species in the number of attacks on humans.

From the statements of the witnesses themselves, no-one got close enough to try to pull Hailey away. Judging from the video/pics, it appears to be about 30 feet from the curb line to just inside the witness's open garage door, where he & his wife were sitting.

The witness said "he couldn't believe the perp (in his truck) was so close in front of them (about 30'), yet did not apparently see them". They said that after they heard the perp speak to Hailey as in "Do you know where Springfield Street is?" and moments later followed by "Come here a minute" (words to that effect) then Hailey took 2 steps toward his truck, when he opened the driver's door, leaped out, grabbed her, and threw her into the truck.

So imo and from all indications, I really don't think he realized he was being witnessed until after he threw her in the truck.

Regardless, he's still a sick 🤬🤬🤬 psychopath to commit such a heinous brutal crime against such a sweet innocent child.
