I am pleased so many people turned out to remember Hailey when you see so many examples of people being selfish and self-absorbed and not caring about others in society nowadays.

Snipped by me

Kathleen Turner and also Brad Pitt were from there, too. :)

I keep thinking about Hailey's family, especially her mom, and being so thankful she has all of this support surrounding her. She seems to be strong and has so much strength embracing her. I know the hearts of Hailey's family will never be the same because they've witnessed such evil, but I do hope that they can get through this intact.

I also can't help but think of CMW's parents and his family, too. Their son did something the world is hating him for, with good reason, but I just can't imagine how a parent would hold their head up and go on after something like this. I do wonder how good of a relationship he had with his parents and his brother and family. I know we'll never get it but I really need to know why. Why did he have to kill her and not just let her go. He seemed prepared for this act and was out riding around looking for his victim, so why didn't he just prepare to let her go after he harmed her?

JMO
Menmo, I've been thinking about his parents yesterday and today, too, and just hurting for them. Can you imagine, being in your late 60s, early 70s, and LE suddenly appearing at your home asking you about a car in your name connected to a kidnapping (and worse) of a little girl? And having to tell them it's your son's car? With the account given by LE and the witnesses and media, there is so little his parents can conclude except the worst, at this point--they don't even have a hope to cling to that they've got the wrong man (at least I wouldn't see one, if I were them).

His relationship with his family has been described as 'close' in media, and his parents have been described as "salt of the earth;" I just cannot imagine the pain they must be dealing with. I for one would never try to imagine 'what they did wrong' -- that way of thinking grows more overly simplistic with each passing year, IMO. I've seen too many instances where the parents did NOTHING wrong, but their kids went in a bad way, anyhow. It's the day and age we live in, and the influences in our modern culture that are so far-reaching (especially via internet) that they can go well beyond a kid's upbringing and immediate environment. A generation ago, you had a smaller 'environment' to control to make sure your kids weren't mixing with a bad crowd, doing drugs, reading 🤬🤬🤬🤬, etc. Today...your child's 'environment' is global; it's the world-wide-web, the underweb, and anything they want to explore that this planet can offer. There's no containing it.

Pray for them when you pray for Hailey's family.

I just read that on a tweet. That got me where it matters. <3

You know, for all the sorry maps we were posting earlier re RSOs in the area, it sure is spectacular that there are so many good peeps in Springfield as well. This is sending a message. And the message of love to her family is going to be something they can cling to for a long, long time.

The people of Springfield would commend you for searching for the truth. The truth is that we will always have degenerates on the fringe of society but for the most part we are all decent people. The fact that he had no priors of this nature boggles my mind. I prefer my monsters to be out in the open.

Tuesday, 2/18, little 10yr-old Hailey Owens was literally snatched off the street by a man in a pickup truck in front of at least 3 witnesses who were able to give a perfect description of the plates, truck description and perp description. They even gave chase as far as they could, and called 911 immediately. In spite of that, and the speedy LE response (see scanner thread below), she was attacked and killed within the 3-1/2 hrs it took LE to apprehend the suspect, 45-yr old Craig M. Wood. The attack seems to have occurred 13 minutes away at his home, where her body was found (along with tons of incriminating evidence including guns, pornographic material, video cams, and laptops). What gags so many of us is that he was a full-time employee of the Springfield ISD, working in a middle school (though not the victim's) as a teacher's aide, football coach, and earlier, substitute teacher.

It's also grievous in that, although this suspect made so many blatant mistakes and was quickly apprehended, that little gal still died a terrible death.

Ok thank you. So he was not a RSO. Did he admit to it? Spare a trial.

Missouri is a death penalty state and I don't see any reason for any plea deals in this case so I truly hope that this man gets the needle.

Hi lonetraveler, I'm new on this case. I just seethe at him claiming not guilty.
They know he did it. People saw him, everything fits. I wish to God our Country would change its laws. Why waste time and money when we all know he did it. No chance someone else did this to little Hailey. Just strap him down and put the needle in. They need the formalitys in charging etc. then go for it. I just cry for this child as we all do. Maybe "they"would think twice if they knew they'd die without a doubt. Maybe if we concentrate hard it will happen. You are right as to no pleas. I bet the girl pleaded. Just kill the piece of Ch*t..:seeya:

When and if the tensions calm down there. If I lived in Springfield, MO I would be asking the director of the 911 center why she did not make that call to MHP for the Amber Alert. I believe they have immediate access to MHP dispatch, more than SPD does. They had all the ingredients needed to make that call based on the very first 911 call. To say they needed to get the site to verify the facts is like calling them to say your house is on fire. And then having to wait for someone to come out and verify that yup it's burning alright.
But hey that's just my opinion. It may just save the next Hailey.

Not yet. The public defender entered no plea Friday, though he told media he would enter a not guilty plea at the next court date. That was also his first day as counsel for the accused, so we'll see.

Scan the threads, even if you don't have time to read all the linked articles. There are only 2 threads so far, and you'll get the gist of it. Too long to go back and run through all the questions again. :o

BBM:
Can you explain why you think the director of the 911 center can call MHP for an AA ........?

From my readings:

MO AA: http://www.mshp.dps.mo.gov/MSHPWeb/PatrolDivisions/DDCC/AmberAlert/aboutTheAmberPlan.html

TIA.

no reason to seethe. It's par for the course of first appearance in court. Let's wait and SEE what's what as time goes on. Breathe.

Everyone gets their time in court at trail by their peers. I wouldn't change a thing to our laws. Calm ......... breathe....... calm...........

I was not going to read that, but in one way I'm glad that I did. From the description, (in my opinion) it appears her body was whole in the bags. So sad when that is good news :(

Yes, I thought that as soon as I heard she was shot but was in two bags. I just assumed it wasn't two separate bags but, her whole body was double bagged (one bag inside the other).

You know, I'm not yet convinced he's even feeling like fighting it. His parents hired a hotshot atty Thursday, and he requested public defender instead, Friday. Maybe I'm just being hopeful, here, but I want to think maybe that means he isn't as dedicated to fighting this as his parents are. (Or maybe he just knows no matter how much money he throws at it, he's still going to lose...) Despite what the PD says to media, we have yet to see what he pleas, though. He may surprise us all (including his atty) and plead guilty.

We can always hope. :)

I believe the parents hired the hot shot attorneys who took a gander at the probable cause statement and evidence collected. And advised the parents as to how to protect themselves and assets from this animal that used to be their son. If they paid him, they are his clients and not the son. So now they are just their spokespeople.

I think he knows what his parents don't realize yet -- that by the time LE finishes investigating him, fighting the charges will be futile.
