Robin Bourland, a longtime acquaintance of the Coleman family, said Coleman was being treated at a Kansas City childrens psychiatric hospital after ingesting unidentified pills Sunday evening. Colemans mother, Melinda Coleman, first released news of the suicide attempt in a Facebook post Monday.
Its been heartbreaking for them, Bourland said of the Colemans, who now live in Albany, Mo. This has been a really long, drawn-out battle, and its heartbreaking to see something like this happening.
Daisy Coleman, the northwest Missouri teenager whose alleged 2012 sexual assault in Maryville has garnered national attention, was recovering Tuesday from a suicide attempt, a family friend familiar with the situation told The Star.

Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker will appear before a Maryville, Mo., judge Thursday and is expected to offer a status report on her investigation of a sexual assault case there.
The hearing notice, emailed to reporters around noon Wednesday, did not say what would be discussed at the session, but noted that “a press conference following the hearing is anticipated.”

MARYVILLE, Mo. Jackson County prosecutor Jean Peters-Baker announced Thursday that rape charges in the Daisy Coleman case will not be filed against Matthew Barnett. However, Barnett will be charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Dietrich sentenced Barnett on Thursday to 120 days of confinement but suspended the execution of sentence and placed Barnett on two years of probation. Additionally, he ordered that Barnett must verbally apologize to Daisy, have no more contact with her, perform 100 hours of community service and reimburse Daisys family for her mental health treatment, initially estimated to be about $1,800.
