cop shot a baby.

So…the only option was a gun? No tackling, tasering, or other non-lethal ways to de-escalate or protect this baby? Watching the video I find that hard to believe. There were several opportunities to intervene. A few bumps or bruises on the baby would’ve been better than a gunshot.

Unreal.

Unfortunately, police training these days seems to be more appropriate for an occupying army than a force of helpers.

Indeed. Engage firearm before brain.

Wow did anyone see the video? She was charging the cops with the knife in one hand, the baby in the other. Should the cops just allow her to stab them?

Nobody has seen the full video, since the Police have not released it.

Even though they're "committed to transparency."

Trained professionals in body armour can’t control a new mother with one hand holding her child?

As sad as this whole thing is I’m not going to throw shade at the officer. That woman suddenly pulled a butcher knife and lunged at the cop. The cop doesn’t have the benefit of sitting on his couch, after the fact, and deciding what he should do. He has seconds, literally seconds, to save his own life and possibly others.
Imagine, for just a moment, how that officer felt after he was forced to shoot. Now imagine how he must feel knowing he shot the baby.
My thoughts are with the woman’s family, and the officer.

That mother was clearly disturbed and seemed to be suffering some kind of episode. It's hard to tell with such a heavily edited video, but it doesn't appear to show much of anyone trying to talk her down, or back away and not make her feel cornered. It looks like they unintentionally escalated the situation.
They shouldn't have shot at her. She had hold of the baby, I don't think she would've been able to stab anyone before they could tackle her.
Again though, it's hard to tell from such heavily edited footage, which makes me wonder, why is it so heavily edited?.

They had other, better, options than shooting her and her baby.

How about sticking your foot out to trip her, for Pete's sake!!? imo

Because they say he did what he was trained to do. Which means they need to change their training!
