I would encourage people here following the case to check out the St. Louis Post dispatch article of approximately 1 hour ago.

I don't have a link because I am watching it on tv but KMOV just reported that her body was found in the park this morning.

Body of missing woman recovered from Mark Twain Lake

"Missouri State Highway Patrol Sergeant Eric Brown confirms with KHQA a body has been recovered.

At approximately 9:40 a.m., a private plane pilot helping with the search effort discovered what he believed was a body just south of the 107 boat ramp at Mark Twain Lake.

At that point, the water division took a boat south of the ramp, discovered the body in the water, and recovered it.

The body is confirmed to be that of missing 23-year-old woman Raffaella Stroik."

Awful news!

I believe this location is also over 100 miles from that Whole Foods store... and very rural it seems so if she was abducted there must have been someone else in another car, otherwise how did they leave the location.

good point! Google maps say it's a two hour drive from St. Louis and it sound like the car was first seen there within 24 hours of when she was at whole foods.

Disheartening to say the least. Hopefully her family will be able to get some answers as LE processes things from here.

MOO but based on some knowledge of the field, ballet is a brutal profession. One injury and your career is over. How to say this delicately, but for a young devout and possibly sheltered Catholic girl the professional dance world would be shocking. If you want to know more read Gelsey Kirkland's "Dancing on my Grave" The beauty of what occurs on the stage is often quite the contrast to the lives led off the stage.

Terribly sad news. Rest peacefully Raffaella. You seemed to have had such a sweet & gentle spirit. Prayers for her family and friends.

I'm so upset it ended this way. I really wanted to have hope she would be found safely. RIP sweet girl.

I hope for her family's sake that the manner of death can be determined quickly, and if it was not suicide then let justice prevail swiftly.

I tend to agree..but why on Earth would you leave the phone? Once police have it they can get into it and use the phone's history to plot the route to how the car got there.. seems incredibly stupid. Also would need more than one perp because you need to get out of there somehow.

Edit i obviously had not read through to the end when i posted this RIP

ya you should get rid of the phone the second the crime starts. If there was a crime.

after reading some of @tokyorose post I think self harm might be a realistic possibility here

Just thinking out loud here, but the fact that she appears to be a devout Catholic makes it a little less likely (but certainly still a possibility) that she committed suicide.

Against a grim backdrop of rising suicide rates among American women, new research has revealed a blinding shaft of light: One group of women — practicing Catholics — appears to have bucked the national trend toward despair and self-harm.

Compared with women who never participated in religious services, women who attended any religious service once a week or more were five times less likely to commit suicide between 1996 and 2010, says a study published Wednesday by JAMA Psychiatry.
Protestant women who worshiped weekly at church were far less likely to take their own lives than were women who seldom or never attended services. But these same Protestant women were still seven times more likely to die by their own hand than were their devout Catholic sisters.
Church attendance linked with reduced suicide risk, especially for Catholics, study says - Los Angeles Times

Hmmm but if this is suicide how did she get out in the lake?

Really sad news. RIP beautiful and talented Raffaela!

Hmmm but if this is suicide how did she get out in the lake?

Swimming, movement of the water carrying her with it, etc. If she had for example taken an overdose of pills, or just swam until she was exhausted, she would likely not have been able to make it back to shore. The water is probably very cold out there at the moment, where it's already been below freezing temps this year. Cold water shock can immobilize you fast, and take you down with it.

I see LE is now saying foul play is not suspected. Very sad outcome.

You have to understand the ballet world... the values in the professional ballet world would be directly at odds with her Catholicism. Add to this a life long dream to be a ballerina and the reality of what that world looks like and you could have quite the psychological crisis on your hands. So terribly sad.

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Raffaella Stroik, daughter of Duncan, the design architect of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity Chapel.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord,

and let perpetual light shine upon her.

Prayers for Raffaella Stroik
