The good news is that Spring is coming, which means farmers are going to be out and about on their land. If she did drive into the country and ended up in a pond in the middle of a field like what happens so often around here, she will be found soon.
You've definitely made a great point here. In so many disappearance cases it so often turns out that evidence or even a body are discovered once warmer weather arrives. People are outdoors more hiking, camping, etc.
For example, there was a case in Little Rock in 2008 where the CFO of a large construction company disappeared. His disappearance baffled everyone. He had no prior history of disappearing, no history of drug abuse, no history of alcohol abuse . . . nothing. He just got in his car on a Monday morning to go to work and was never seen alive again. There was a LOT of talk that he (like Toni) wanted to escape his life and start all over so his disappearance was a choice, not an indication of any harm coming to him.
There was even a segment on an episode of The Missing about his disappearance.
Search teams looked for him near his home, near his work, and every place in between. They even searched for him in Lonoke county because of a tip (from a jailhouse snitch). This was near my family's farm and was a very extensive search through flooded rice crops - not the greatest terrain to have to walk around on. They also searched for him at Petit Jean Mountain State Park because that's where his cell phone signal died - his car was found at the park. The distance between Lonoke and Petit Jean is about 100 miles, with Little Rock in between.
John disappeared January 28, 2008. On March 12, 2015 two college students cut class to go to Petit Jean to hike one of the trails. Because they were looking for an adventure they decided to hike a trail that is very dangerous and difficult to hike, therefore people rarely hike the trail. (If I remember correctly there was a report at the time that the trail had not been open to hike for some time because of how dangerous it is.) While hiking the trail they discovered the remains of John Glasgow. His body was less than ONE mile (as the crow flies) from where his car had been found seven years earlier.
I know this might be a rather dramatic account of how the time of year can make all the difference in a case, but the main point of this case is true of so many cases like this - seasons do make a big difference in solving cases. Warmer weather may be the key to solving Toni's case.
