Mom sells teen's car after finding alcohol

  • #101
I think her point, which is one all should follow IMO, is dont have booze in the car. He agreed and lost his car because he couldnt follow the rules

We should all follow her rule just because she did it?
What happen to having your opinion on things..your own rules?

This is a serious question...how do you adults get your booze to the destination your going on a weekend night? If your going to a dinner party and bringing a bottle of wine...how do you do that? Do you have it airlifted to your friends house? Or do you just place it in your car....?

I think you are missing the point, he is NOT an adult, he lives with mom, and MUST follow the rules she laid down for him.
I think ALL should follow the rule of not being underage, drinking, and having booze in the car. Sorry I didnt make myself clear on that!

Adults of legal drinking age transport their unopened (seal intact) bottles/cans of booze legally in their cars. If bottles are opened then in the trunk is within the law as I've understood it.

I think we all agree about the booze in the car.

But Indy, to play devil's advocate with you.

Now, I have quite a "booze" collection at my house of cheap booze when my friends come over for dinner, and we don't finish it, and the leave the leftovers.
But the expensive stuff.... they sure as heck take it with them. And I don't know where they put it.
They are of drinking age.
Legal?
No.
But it sure does happen.
I don't do it.
I have too much to lose. I have a nursing license and my husband is a teacher. Heck, we DD if we go out to dinner and one of us wants to drink. We won't even take sips.
But I know that the open container thing happens a lot, and I am sure that you know that it happens ALL the time with people who are of legal drinking age.

In this case mom and son had their rule. :)

Just because a child is in college does not mean that they are emancipated. As long as the parent is footing the bill, and that child is still coming home, the parent's rules apply.
When that child can pay their own way in life and are living on their own then they can make their own rules.

That's what I tell my college child.;)

He could be the DD, but the point is, he is only 19 and he should not even be drinking. I am not saying it doesn't happen, but that doesn't mean that this mother wants to aid in breaking the law.

I can understand that.

WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.
But in the eyes of the law they are an adult right?

I think emancipation is when you are under the age of 18 and need to be legally an "adult".

But in momma's house, momma's rule still are supposed to rule, right? Over 18 or not.

I think that is why the car is going bye bye after all.
Wether I agree with her or not.

I had a feeling—that Mom thing—that something wasn’t quite right with the car. Steven seemed to be acting a little weird, so when he wasn’t around I went through it. I snooped... The car was parked in the driveway and I just felt something was odd, so while he was in the shower, I went outside and looked through it. I looked under the seat and the the first thing I found was a bottle of alcohol.

FROM my link, it doesnt say he lives at the college if he does why is he showering at moms?

Another thing i dont agree with this...is how she made it so public & almost bragging on her amazing idea. I think the way you parent your children should be kept private, as there are many different views.
