Medicare is for elderly & disabled people, Medicaid is for poor people.

Medicaid did not cover the kids right? Wondering if they also applied for and received CHIP? Guess they did not want to spend any of their own money on health insurance huh?

My understanding is, here in SC, for an adult to be on Medicaid, they would have to be on public assistance, like Welfare. But children of low-income families, who have no insurance, can be on Medicaid. Since both parents were self-employed, they were probably understating their income, to pay less in taxes and qualify to get the kids on Medicare.

As for taxes, their reported income with 3 children as dependents would qualify them for the earned income credit which would be, at the least, around $5000 per year. Then there's the child tax credit. And the IRS could go back aprox 7 years.

My guess is the children were covered by Medicaid. In Kentucky the income limits (even pre Affordable Care Act and our current Medicaid expansion) were higher for children than they were for adults (parents of these children). Without knowing the limits for S.C. and the true income of this couple it is possible the children received Medicaid correctly without fraud being committed.

Were they charged with fraud regarding the kids medicaid also? or no?

There are people who have came into our office asking only about medicaid for themselves even though there were children in the home who did not have any type of medical coverage. :banghead:

This is truly the story that keeps on giving...

I just checked and it looks like Sid & Tammy's hearing is still on for tomorrow, about 28 hours from now. It's a bond returnable hearing on indecent exposure, obstruction of justice, and kidnapping charges. The murder charges still show as Pending, so I dunno what's up with that.

Oh, wait, no bond returnable hearing because there's no bond on the murder charges?

Hope so - we get so little info lately, would be awesome to have a few more pieces of the puzzle. I definitely know that some major sleuthers here are aware of this court date, so hopefully we should have a new thread open. Fingers crossed to get any news that will get us closer to justice for Heather and her family!

I was thinking that too. Last hearing, pictures started popping up the day after court. I wonder if hoppy will attend? Hoppy's coverage is better than the news reporters.

Imo, she would definitely be showing. Many tend to get bigger earlier with each successive pregnancy.
