Mother arrested after abandoning her 3 children in an apartment for 4 years, Pontiac MI

thanks for clarifying. still, she could have responded to his request for change in custody with "I'll do you one better, here they are, they are all yours"
No way, IMO would she have done that.
The children had already been living on their own for a year or two.
She would have to produce them and take a chance of them telling on her.

Not to mention, also, that she wanted to keep the government funds she was receiving to "care for" the three children.

Good points from both of you. It was always all about her. Her keeping the benefits, her keeping her secret to protect herself. Her lingerie parties, her nails, her her her.

I have hate in my heart for a parent who could be so depraved.

Pontiac — A Pontiac mom accused of abandoning her three children to live in squalor by themselves for years faces up to life in prison after being arraigned on first-degree child abuse charges.

Kelli Bryant was arraigned Thursday on three counts of first-degree child abuse in Pontiac's 50th District Court. Judge Ronda Fowlkes Gross set her bond at $250 million after deeming her a flight risk.

Bryant, who appeared via Zoom during the video arraignment, nodded her head as Fowlkes Gross addressed her. The judge also ordered Bryant to have no contact with her children, saying she was concerned Bryant would instruct them not to cooperate with authorities.

“I find her a continued danger to her children," said Fowlkes Gross before setting bond. "I don’t know who the children have been given to.”...

Am I misunderstanding this or......is the Judge saying she doesn't know what home the children are in? Would CPS not give that information to the court?

I am thinking the criminal court judge didn't have that info from the family court that would have handled the CPS placement yet. The prosecutor probably could have told the judge where specifically the children were as Karen McDonald appeared to have that knowledge yesterday in her presser. As a prosecutor, I wouldn't volunteer that info in open court if I did know because then the defendant would also know where the children were.

Sounds to me, based on the judge's comments, she didn't want to know. She knew she had to give a bond amount but was loathe to do so because of the seriousness of the long term abuse/neglect. So IMO, the lack of knowledge about where the children were was an added excuse as to why she should make Kelli's bond very very insurmountably high.

I dont know ,just gave me a bit of pause when I starting thinking about the mom dropping food at the door and that uber eats thing . It seems like it was at least something to consider.
supposedly she paid the rent until October- and she paid for the kids to have phones... and they had tv.... so she paid for certain things. my guess is that she had a sort of double illegal life but the way she isolated them is bizarre and when I think of the kids trying to make up four years of school....

While I was a caregiver to my mom, I stayed at her house. Meanwhile, my cat was back at my house. Every few days I would stop by, run in and make sure he had water, food, and clean the litterbox. I would be in and out in under 20 minutes. Sometimes coming and going with various items. I was surviving on fumes, and I feel awful about the time my cat spent alone during this time. I share this because---many times, I would wonder what my neighbors were thinking when they would see me coming and going.

Were they not curious why she would bring by a few bags of something and then leave? Wouldn't wonder why she would take something inside---but never stay? moo

It just wouldn't occur to you that there were children living alone nearby. You might see someone occasionally drop something off, but you would think there was an adult home with kids or that the mother lived there and would be back.

I do think most people would have reported kids living alone, if they knew.

...Judge Ronda M. Fowlkes Gross set the bond for Kelli Bryant, 34, of Pontiac, on Thursday, Feb. 20, and said that she believes the mother is a danger to the children and a flight risk.

“I am concerned that she still may have contact with the family member from the jail with instructions to continue to engage in the fear tactics to forbid the children from cooperating with authorities in their continued investigation in this matter,” the judge said.

“For that reason alone, I’m giving her a $250 million bond in this matter,” said the judge. “Cash only.”...

Kelli looks rough without her wig and her 3 inch nails. Orange is not her color. Hope she's getting not one wink of sleep in her new accommodations. She tried to interrupt Sarah Greene (with the prosecution) when she was requesting a high bond. Judge put Kelli on mute so she could finish uninterrupted.

Bryant’s probable cause conference is set for March 4, 2025, and her preliminary examination is scheduled for March 11, 2025.
