From out of the darkness of 'Lurking Land' she springs forth! You did great. :gathering: So glad you decided to join us!

(Bolded By Me),

Sometimes I think, what would I do right now if I had the authority to step into this investigation? What would my next step be?

I know my first step, "Ali, what kind of cigarettes did JC buy, were they her usual brand?"
I have 45 other steps but I won't bother any of you with that level of tedium.

Woah, are these two a couple? I had a different arrangement that came immediately to mind. Hmmm.

Darn, forgot the quote thing. Sorry.

I wondered the same thing. He looks like he's about 15 years older than she is.

I think she was not clothed - hence the young female recognition. I also think she was not severely burned all over her body - she was recognizable. obviously burned badly enough in areas to succumb to the burns, but possibly recognizable.

One time in my days before I became so dang smart, I decided to burn a pile of leaves and twigs that I had collected in a construction size wheel barrow.
For whatever reason, they wouldn't light. So I had the bright idea to get some gas.

The first match did nothing. So I thought, maybe a little more gas.

The second match hit the mid level of that pile in slow motion. Mostly I remember hearing a huge whoosh and a BOOM and then flames where high enough to light the tree on fire...at the top.

I caught a lot of colds that fall because I had few nose hairs left.

All of the combustible fuels that have been mentioned so far have different chemical compositions and different burn rates/heat levels. Gas being among one of the most explosive.

I want to read them! Oh the devil is in the details. Tedium? That's my middle name. :D

I'm pretty sure she suffered some fairly severe burns. Pretty certain all her clothes were probably gone too. Many reports listed her as unrecognizable. I'd imagine she had fourth as well as many third degree burns.
So what do you think about Cole Haney's hesitation on the video? Could have been an innocent thing....like he is telling the truth but just misstated the sequence of events (ie, they hadn't yet realized it was a "young" female, or a "young female", but then Jessica told Cole her name and he knew).

I'm not too certain that it was NOT COMMON KNOWLEDGE. Once Chambers realized that she had something worthwhile and marketable she probably (imo) began shooting her mouth off. Something like that would be natural for a 19-year-old with a story that seemed "marketable".

I can cite several dozens of similar situations.

Marketable? I can't even find the funeral speaker's book online.

Authors get dozens, even hundreds of similar comments & requests during Q & A after their book talks. Maybe 2 of 100 ever get beyond the first 10 pages of their attempted book. Maybe 2 of 500 will get a rough draft done. 1 of 1000 will send a manuscript to a publisher. Most are rejected, nicely. A teeny-tiny fraction will get the interest of an agent or an imprint to publish and market their book. The odds of 19 year old Jessica getting a book deal for her life story were slim to none.

Perhaps if she or a publisher could have foreseen how infamous she would be in death, her unpublished memoir may have generated some interest, if it had been written. Perhaps it was. I'm not sure what she did in the 17 months since her high school graduation.

JMO.

Jessica was in way over her head with all these characters...ouch.

If I just go with what I see here; either she owed $$ or she dropped info on someone to the wrong person in her line of business. I tend to go with the later because they could of worked the money off her.

This is so sad...no one showed her her worth in this world. Even mom is silent.

Gasoline certainly is the most volatile. One of the reasons I ruled it out for Jessica's personal immolation was for that reason. I mean it fit with the state of the car, but how would you contain an individual in a flashpoint flare like that. Restraints of course but that whoosh you yourself felt has some propellant properties. I'm not going to elaborate more, just considering it is a bit painful to imagine.

My older brother damn near killed himself lighting a fire with gas when we were young. Knocked him over and set him ablaze. I saw it happen.

Maybe I should preface that with " I understand grief" but where is the anger? Dad is showing that emotion. Maybe it is just me but the females are awful quiet in this one.

I think Cole came up on an indescribable horror, regardless of what state she was in. He may have seen burnt corpses before but I doubt he ever saw a living being burned as badly as she was. I think Cole may have been shook up, and not certain how he "recognized her"

The only actual gauge we have of her burns is A that she succumbed to them, and B many early reports described her as unrecognizable. I'm going to listen to some early interviews again and try to find some sort of consistency. It's been two weeks now, it's no longer fresh in my mind.

Mom and sister have been very outspoken on social media. The mom and sister are very heart broken, distraught and angry. Not sure if they have given many interviews, but they have been vocal on FB.

Linda Oliver's book, "Every BODY Has A Story: Ashley's Miracle" will be published in the next few months. http://lindaoliver.net/aboutlinda.html

Based on what Linda has experienced and does for our community, I believe an apology is in order.

Did you ever think that Jessica might have lived with a tutor?

I can't help but think that if they are swabbing people, there must be a reason. I did not get to watch the video interview with Tutor and Mister. Is it a must-see or no?

OK, thanks, that sounds reasonable.

Yes, that's often true in a small town. My dad ran an auto repair shop for years and I sometimes worked there for extra cash. I could learn more about what was going on in town in an hour of floor sweeping, listening to the gossip, than in an entire month of reading the local paper.

I'm guessing that not everything AA knows was said to him directly. Lots of it was probably what he heard in conversations going on around him. I'm not pointing to any particular detail, just pointing out the general possiblity.

Do you need a warrant for security tape? I can't remember. Anyway, if LE needs one, they might have told AA what they needed it for so they could look at it quickly without a warrant. Just thinking out loud here.

I would like to get that book. You have piqued my interest.

People are putting a lot of weight on Tutor's reaction when they were questioned how they knew Jessica. They're probably collecting and sequencing DNA as a just in case measure. IIRC I read here that even just a differential DNA analysis would take weeks. You know what though, it has been weeks now.

LE can ask anyone for anything and the individual may voluntarily provide LE with that item. A warrant is necessary without the individual's consent or probable cause of reasonable, immediate danger/harm.

Warrants are not an issue in this case due to the involvement of the FBI. (Any federal judge, in any district or circuit can issue the warrant; and yes, they are routinely issued retroactively without consequence). Local LE working alone would require a Mississippi State Circuit Court Judge (District 17) to issue a warrant. State Circuit Courts in Mississippi handle criminal cases (felony only; not misdemeanors or drug court) and civil cases (not small claims).

I clerked for a Federal District Court Judge.

Top 10 characteristics of the person(s) responsible:

-Likely female
-Either the same age as Jessica or a couple of years older than Jessica (maybe knows Jessica through siblings)
-Lives nearby
-Obviously was near the crime scene that night
-Visited the crime scene afterwards
-Uses mineral spirits
-Saw Jessica frequently
-Dresses the same as Jessica (e.g., pajama pants)
-Does not like change leading to rumors being exposed (e.g., fight with a sibling)
-Based the crime on revenge (of either a sibling or societal norm (e.g., anti-Barbie types, anti-gang))

You're posts are very interesting...
Why do you think they visited the crime scene afterwards?
Why do you think they dress the same as Jessica?
