I think I recall Jessica's mom saying she spent most of her time at home, work, or across the street at her friend's house. Do we know the name of that friend?

The notion of a gang initiation is possible too. I would guess Jessica Chambers knew someone in that gang. This probably suggest she was targeted. Of course this is all just speculation.

As small as Jessica was, I think she had to learn to be a fighter to stand up for herself! Gotten in the wrong crowd, people tended to think she was naive, and it was fight to survive. IMO

On another point. Her two charges were around April and June 2013? Correct me if I am wrong. The Leah House has a 12 month program and she had been out 2 months. This looks like she realized she was on the wrong path at the end of her Senior year, then the two charges sealed the deal for she and her parents. A major decision was made by Jessica to clean her life up. IMO

IF this were the case, that would explain why she wasn't friendly and bubbly to the people on the outside and inside of the gas station. She had been away for a year and didn't want to start that friendship up again. Also, an answer to why she got $3-$4 gas daily - parents limited her money. All just my thoughts.
