In the process of 'investigating' this case, the FBI, MBI, DEA, PC Sheriff's Office, and other entities have interviewed apx. 150 people, and investigated over 20,000 cell phone records. These consist of old phone numbers, new phone numbers, friends of friends of friends, as the
telephone' game literally spread itself out, one can imagine the dirt that was unearthed. This, as I understand things, is the current status of JC's murder investigation, that the investigation into her murder has granted police access to many, many phone records that they would not have otherwise (legally) had access to. I would ASSume that a handful of those arrestees have been on LE radar for some time, and they only recently stumbled across phone records incriminating enough to convince a judge to issue an indictment. No, they have not arrested anyone yet for JC's murder, and no, none of the 17 (or 18) people arrested this week are directly linked to JC's murder at this time. The was the first sweep of many, one could hope, and as we have speculated here on WS, hopefully one of these arrestees can cough up some information or turn informant in order to get those responsible for JC's murder behind bars. Not trying to start any rumors, but there is also the possibility that the mystery 18th person arrested could have turned State's witness, thus no name released, and the arrest itself as being retracted from news segments. Just sayin...
Pretty much everybody is in agreement that this crime was not committed by a complete stranger. A contract killing has come up in discussion, as has suicide, accident, and a few other theories, and I cannot speak for everyone here, but I personally do not think this was a random killing, nor do I think it was committed by a stranger to Jessica. Finally, the only thing sensational to me about this case has been the complete lack of ethics in journalism displayed across the board. For every MSM publication stating one fact, there is another contradicting it (albeit before abandoning the case completely). Jessica Chambers was a 19 year old female who by all accounts was doing well for herself at the time of her death. She was doused with accelerant and burned to death. "Sensational" or not, this is a horrifying, sad, pitiful case that has allowed for Panola County to be put in the spotlight. I firmly believe that Jessica's murder was intended to 'go away', like so many others before her. Kudos to everyone who played a part in not allowing that to happen. Welcome to the discussion and hopefully your fresh eyes/perspective can bring up something that we have overlooked. Oh, EVERYTHING is IMO ;-)
Yes, that's what I meant by "more than 10". I read CNN and Google headlines every day, and somehow I missed this case.
But I also think I've misunderstood what's going on now - I thought they had 17 gang member arrestees who were involved in her murder - but it appears in fact they haven't solved her murder - but through looking hard at crime in Jackson, they've uncovered unrelated crimes and have made arrests? And her murderer may be someone known to her who is not related to these guys at all? Is that right? In which case, it's not really all that sensational a crime at all, as it appeared to me in the CNN headline this morning.
