Now that the PFMA hearing is over, the SAR team is coming to an end ... and absolutely nothing found not ever a shred of clothing....I think things might start speeding up.

It's like a made for TV movie. So many twists and turns that seem to lead to nowhere. Even the river search for 30 days brought nothing. It's my understanding the entire river from Alberton Rock to Thompson Falls was thoroughly searched 3 times by these experts with expert equipment! Where is Rebekah Barsotti? She's obviously not in the river.

I'm not sure if I have already said this here....but DB's discussion with the tobacco girl is a BACK UP LIE!! DB is a professional liar. He has lied all of his adult life about his military combat career. He even lied about it in the body cam footage from the officer's body cam of 3/9/31. He convinced the reporting officer twice he was a combat marine with PTSD and TBI. This was the 2nd time this reporting officer had responded to the marital home. Both times the responding officer offered to find him help through other veterans....that is how believable a liar DB is! DB needed to construct a back up lie in case anyone ever placed him at the Alberton Rock are on 7/20/21 or anyone in his inner circle caved and started telling the truth. The back up lie was DB setting the stage. It's my understand DB took up a girlfriend within 2 weeks of RB missing in early August. That relationship lasted until October. If he was so distraught why would he seek the affection of another woman? If he was so distraught why wasn't he working with AM to find RB, the wife he was so distraught over missing, even claiming he watched her drown? And this is after others have said he was sitting at home with company all day?

I was really shocked listening to the two radio interviews and what it revealed. I'm looking forward to the one on Friday.....PLEASE release the 911 call, at least to the people involved, the attorney and the PI. What the heck is playing out down there? Probably some heads will be rolling....or children of people will be looked at, but that is nothing compared to a missing, probably murdered Rebekah. This is simply getting a freak show....It's simple if you are innocent...then you are....and a totally honest IMO remark.....I totally not believe in the justice system.....the 25th was another reminder that it doesn't work the way it should.

It's very interesting that the central person in this story was in two places at the same time. He was at home with guests all day and did not leave, according to his circle of associates. He was also up on a cliff at Alberton, watching Rebekah drown, according to a tobacconist, who got it from the horse's mouth. Which is it? It can't be both. Somebody is lying: who is it?

Now would be a good time for LE to take the witnesses and DB in for questioning. He was in two places at the same time. Witnesses say he was at home. He has told someone that he was not at home, but at the scene in Alberton at the exact moment when Rebekah disappeared.

Who is handling this case in LE now, with the sheriff freshly out of hospital from an undisclosed illness? This is not the time to abandon Rebekah with this new disclosure.

If anyone does not want to fall on the sword for someone who does not deserve it, now is the time to come clean. Perhaps they prefer criminal charges for aiding and abetting?

My gut feeling is....it will all dug up.....no protection anymore.....If you fool people they will get suspicions...feel shame...for protecting you......whatever...it will hunt you in your sleep. Keeping a lie forever is so very difficult...........especially if you find out the story people told you is as fake at is can be.....

Question to witnesses: Is it better to recant your statement to police (if indeed formal statements were ever taken, or was it just police officers' notes in a notebook?) in this "accidental drowning", or would you prefer to be caught out in a lie with the potential for legal consequences to you?

Tell the truth and save your own skin, or risk harm to your reputation and potential future employment opportunities with a criminal record from aiding and abetting?

If you were directly involved in Rebekah's death, wouldn't it be better to turn yourself in now and tell the truth in exchange for potential leniency in sentencing? Or is it better to wait and have others turn against you? You or them?

  • #911
If anything says "not an accidental drowning", it's the fact that Rebekah and Cerberus were stoned by unknown persons 18 days before they vanished. There is a record of her windshield replacement, and the account of the incident by a young man tubing at the water that day. It seems to have been a trial run for the actual event on July 20, 2021.

Somebody knows where Rebekah is right now. She might even be buried in their own back yard. It would be a mistake to try and move her. Try living with that forever.

If formal statements were not taken in this case, now is the time to do it. Bring in all of the witnesses and alibis separately. Have them write their statements and sign them. Then question them about their formal statements and record these interviews.

It is my belief that formal statements were never taken, and that formal, recorded interviews at the police station never happened, because this was seen as as missing person or accidental drowning. Two different police agencies were involved.

Clarification is needed. Formal statements and recorded interviews are needed. Who wouldn't volunteer for this, in order to clear their name?

Prescribed burns are taking place in Lolo National Forest and will continue in the coming months. I hope that firefighters and members of the public keep their eyes open for disturbed ground, clothing and any other signs in the areas concerned, both before and after these events.

Spring burns planned on Lolo Forest

I agree. Charges for accessory after the fact will surely get a person some prison time. Better to tell what you know first to LE than to end up a patsy.

On that note, here's some general information for anyone wondering what it means to aid and abet, or be an accessory after the fact.

There is an election coming up on June 7 for sheriff of Mineral County. Sheriff Mike Toth was appointed to the position in 2020. Here are the candidates:

Q&A with Mineral County sheriff candidate Wayne Cashman

Q&A with Mineral County sheriff candidate Ryan Funke

For anyone living in Mineral County, what would you ask these two candidates? What would you ask them about the handling of Rebekah Barsotti's disappearance? Do you want them to investigate this case as a suspicious death and potential murder?

Now is the time to send them your questions and hold them to their answers. This election takes place about a month before the anniversary of Rebekah's disappearance. Her family could still get answers if the new sheriff decides to look at the evidence. Will either of these two people examine the evidence?

Rebekah is a human being. Her family needs the truth. How would you feel if this happened to you and your family?

I have this sixth sense......no and no....maybe we are even going to miss Mike Toth...

On Aug. 3, 2020, Mike Toth took the oath to be sheriff of Mineral County. He was appointed by the county commissioners following the resignation of Sheriff Mike Boone.

For personal reasons, Toth decided not to run for the position, but two people that are already employed have registered for the primary and their names will be on the ballot in the Tuesday, June 7 election.

Undersheriff Wayne Cashman was hired by Toth within minutes of his own acceptance of his position. Sgt. Ryan Funke has been with the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office for over four years.

The following is a Q&A with Funke. Next week’s edition will feature a Q&A with Cashman.

What have you done to improve the department since you became a member?

Funke: I have created a positive working relationship with all agencies inside Mineral County. I wrote and passed the Vicious Dog Ordinance for Mineral County. I have been a Field Training officer for our office since I joined MCSO. I brought the antic of proactive policing, which in turn allowed the Sheriff’s Office the opportunity for Stone Garden overtime. The Stone Garden Program provides funding to enhance cooperation and coordination among state, local, tribal, territorial, and federal law enforcement agencies to jointly enhance security along the United States land and water borders.

What kinds of situations would you call in other law enforcement agencies to assist with an arrest or an ongoing investigation? Specifically, which agencies would you be willing to coordinate with on a state or federal level and for what kinds of criminal activity?

Funke: Situations that are large scale and above our agency capacities. The Department of Criminal Investigations is a state agency that assists Montana law enforcement agencies in a wide variety of investigations. This is at no cost to the requesting agency. Other agencies that I would be willing to coordinate with include, but are not limited to: Montana Highway Patrol Interdiction Team, DCI, DEA, CSKT Drug Detectives, NWDTF, ATF. Working relationships with surrounding agencies include Sanders County SO, Missoula County, Shoshone County, and Montana Highway Patrol.

I would not hesitate to ask for help for all kinds of criminal activity.

What do you see as the immediate needs of the department, and how will accomplish them?

Funke: Leadership that is a “lead by example” model. This style of leadership is where you model the behavior you want to see in your TEAM. When you lead by example, you don’t just push team members towards excellence, you actively demonstrate that excellence. If elected myself and the Undersheriff will be “boots on the ground” leaders who work alongside the Deputy Division. Radio communication has been a large officer safety issue since my employment and continues to be a large safety concern for our deputies. I plan to look into state and local grants to financially aid in ensuring community safety.

How will your department work with ancillary offices to promote transparency and vital communication? (HR, County Attorney, Health Department, Safety, CVA, etc.)

Funke: I believe it is imperative that agencies in small communities work together for common goals and solutions to shared problems. As previously stated, I have worked to build these relationships since my employment in Mineral County. I have shown with the vicious dog ordinance that communication among local departments is crucial for success. With the assistance of the community’s voice, the health department, county attorney, crime victim advocate, and the vote of the commissioners, an important shared goal was accomplished with the passing of the vicious dog ordinance.

What are your plans for community involvement and community partnerships? What is your plan to balance the jail occupancy between local, state and federal prisoners? And what will be done with the revenue from state and federal occupants?

Funke: Community policing is very important and I’ve worked hard on bringing this to Mineral County. I’ve trained new deputies to also be active in our communities.

Jail occupancy needs to have a balance as our main mission is to ensure the safety of the people living in Mineral County. This hasn’t been a priority in the past few years and needs to be at the forefront. I want the people of Mineral County to feel that we are ensuring their safety and that it is our top priority.

The revenue brought in by State and Federal inmates goes back into the Mineral County General Fund.

What additional proactive law enforcement policies will you put into place to curb the widespread and far-reaching drug related and human trafficking crimes?

Funke: MCSO currently has Stone Garden (federal) grant that allows deputies overtime to work local and interstate drugs/human trafficking. My goal is to continue this partnership as long as it is available to our county. A proactive deputy with a K-9 would be very beneficial to our mission to curb drug-related crimes. Recent drug overdoses nationwide with fentanyl-based drugs have had a negative impact on many communities. Proactive policing with a K-9 would minimize these effects on our community.

etc.....

The current sheriff remains in place until he is replaced on June 7, 2022. Here's what he said in a recent interview.

https://www.kpax.com/news/western-m...-seeking-answers-about-missing-missoula-woman

“She's somewhere in the river, you know, we're 99.9% positive,” Sheriff Toth said.

"We are trying our best, but you know there’s only so much we can do at one point, and then that’s it,” Mineral County Sheriff Mike Toth said.

Is this a case of tunnel vision? The river has been thoroughly searched by a team hired by the family. Nothing was found. Why reach the conclusion that Rebekah is in the river without looking at other evidence in this case?

Doesn't "trying our best" include looking at all the evidence?

There's still time to send your questions to Sheriff Mike Toth. He will be on the job, paid by the county until June 7, 2022.

I suggest that concerned citizens of Mineral County should do their own research on the internet to determine the past history of each candidate. Past behavior is the best indicator of future behavior. This is a very important election, not just for the Barsotti family, but for everyone in Mineral County.
