I'm not linking, but I'm warning that there is video out there of the highrise building under construction collapsing and it is frightening. At least one video was taken by a worker, and they have to break and run for their life along with dozens of other people.

According to this article, 43 construction workers are believed to be trapped by the collapse.

Despite my fears the military junta controlling Myanmar would not be open to aid, the opposite is the case. The Senior General essentially in a press release said "we need all the help, please send us any help you can". So it's happening as fast as possible.

Well, we're a day in and confirmed toll is over 1000. You only have to look at the footage of how many buildings are destroyed in Mandalay and Sagaing in that one motorcycle video and think about how many people were likely in each of those buildings when the first quake struck to realise it's not a ridiculous number.

Also, the military junta were bombing an area of Sagaing that's not controlled by them literally within minutes of the first quake, so they're not exactly taking the day off to let people living in those areas try to save themselves or their families from their homes falling down around their ears. We're seeing pictures of the cities, but scuttlebutt in the articles (virtually nobody is speaking with the press with anything but total anonymity because Myanmar) is that things are very bad in the rural areas and the villages. Someone said something about how ridiculously lowball the numbers were because they knew of a hundred dead in just one village. Whoever's updating the wiki, I take my hat off to them, because they've got a lot of detailed information that isn't out there in the generic English language publications and articles.
