Probably not a ton of judges within earshot on a late Friday afternoon. If it's a federal judge it may take even longer to facilitate.

JMO.
Plus it's the start of a three day weekend. Monday is a federal holiday in the US.

This is a beautiful article about Nancy Guthries, many comments from friends that confirms they visited.

“two days before her disappearance, when she insisted on walking to the end of her gravel driveway to get the mail, even if a friend had to help.”

“I keep thinking about every time I’d go in the kitchen door, and she’d be sitting there at the counter, just how her eyes would always light up as soon as she saw me,” said Ms. Burnson, who has been friends with Ms. Guthrie for 42 years. “That’s when you know you have a real friend.”

“She enjoyed cooking for friends”

“On Jan. 26, the day before her birthday, Ms. Federhar dropped off a balloon and treats on her doorstep. The next day, Ms. Burnson, who has family roots in New Orleans, set out some nice crystal, cooked shrimp and grits and made beignets.”

Thanks for posting. NG sounds like she was a wonderful friend. MO

Its a weird way of doing it as it is giving the person to be arrested a lot of warning and chance to escape knowing they are coming for them.
Yes, totally don’t understand this.

But why carry her out? Most criminals just kill and run out leaving the body. Why take the extra time risking getting caught to remove a body? Then do what? Drive down the road with it?
This is the question I have had this whole time.

I do think the primary perpetrators were at the back door smashing that light and going in through the back door. I have thought NG was taken out through the front door because of the blood (and that was why nest cam was taken out) but it sure would make far more sense if she was taken out through the back door. Much more private, no chance of anybody seeing anything. MO
House sets far back from road. Very private. Neighbors can't be seen. Most likely either door.

Intellectually interesting because none of it makes sense. She had such a low risk lifestyle it's madness what happened to her, people want the solution to what seems like an impossible to solve puzzle.

A lot of times with crime we make ourselves feel better by thinking it couldn't happen to us because we'd never do X, or go to Y, or marry Z like the victim did. NG reminds us you can do everything right and evil can still find you.

Emotionally, it's hard not to picture your mom or grandma in her position. It's scary enough when those we love are older and struggling with the normal downsides of advanced age but something like this just takes the turn to nightmare fuel. I think this is touching the heart of a lot of people.

I bet a lot of people are having talks with their elderly parents about security and making sure their camera subscriptions don't lapse.
Well said, thank you for sharing that perspective. After all we are all human and this definitely brings out raw emotion in my opinion

Depends on the motive. Kidnapping for ransom or kidnapping to hide planned murder. Did not see any discussion that it was a burglary.

I’m thinking this situation with all the media involved, LE almost has to use SWAT. Any suspect in Tuscan let alone anywhere in the country would know there is LE movement….. coming!

Now that LE has recovered footage from NG nest cam, they are asking neighbors to look through their security cameras from several weeks back. Maybe because LE has more video they haven’t released of mask guy from a previous visit.

Why would mask guy show up to NG house more than once? Well maybe the last time(s) didn’t work out for what they intended.

The gun really stands out to me. It looks ridiculous. It’s right there in front like they want to terrify NG and make sure she sees it.

It sounds like home invasion robberies are basically nonexistent in NG neighborhood.

So why would someone show up more than once, with an obvious weapon, and not intending to rob NG? Well maybe they only meant to frighten her. Maybe this whole thing started out to cause anxiety and fear but NG fell, or had a cardiac event and passed. Mask guy panics. No harm was supposed to come to NG! He hauls her body out of there and dumps it.

Ok, so who might want to frighten NG like this? To what end? Maybe to scare her out of living alone in that big house. Maybe she was needing a lot of help and local family was tired of it, maybe they wanted her to sell the house because they need money.

LE keeps circling back to a certain family members home which, to me, says they are suspicious of something. Maybe neither one is mask guy, but they paid a 3rd person. LE is trying to figure out who that 3rd person is because that’s the weakest link to this whole situation.

Those 2 won’t talk, and putting pressure will only make them lawyer up. The digital trail doesn’t have any slam dunks. NG could be anywhere. Therefore, they really need to figure out who that 3rd party is.

This is a little disjointed but I’m talking through my thoughts. All MOO.

I’ve thought that all along! My impression from the video released is that the suspect at the front door first intention was to give a knock at the metal gate (alerting another suspect already inside), but the Nest camera distracted him…he expected the camera to be off. IMO
I am really with a 2-3 person theory involved. 1 person knows her well and other 1 (or 2) know the guy who knows her well. My theory and im not implicating anyone.

Maybe a dumb question, but if we assume that BE's reporting is accurate and SWAT/LE is staging right now, and that such staging is related to this investigation, why would it be taking so long? Or is this a normal amount of time?
Usually they have emergency judges on call to issue warrants so I'm a bit surprised by the wait if it is warrant-related. MO

At least one judge is on call for emergency warrants 24/7 - daughter of a retired Superior Court judge here.

With the importance of this case (abduction), I'm guessing there won't be much of a delay from the courts. LE likely has a judge on speed dial.

Kidnappings for ransom don’t tend to work as well when you don’t have a kidnap victim! ;P

Might be harder to prosecute if they can’t find a body….
