And this happens how often??

Most kidnappings to Mexico involve non-custodial parents.

If cartels are involved, it doesn't look like this.....
How often does kidnapping of an 84 year old happen. Period. ?
How often is the mother of a famous news anchor kidnapped. Period?
How do you know exactly what a cartel would do or not???
I simply stated an opinion/ option.

Secondly, I think it’s despicable what is being said on this thread about Nancy’s son in law. I think it is honestly victim bashing and blaming someone who thoroughly loves his mother in law and has been left devastated. Of course they are looking at the closest male. In this case he’s a quirky, sensitive academic who might well play mahjong with his mother in law on a regular basis and may cook her lovely dinners regularly too.
In my opinion, he’s a wonderful son in law. Europeans take care of their own in many cases and cherish their elderly a lot more than some other cultures who want them out of sight/ mind.
Whoever said he will be deported should remove their nasty post. He’s very obviously a contributing member of our society. I have the greatest respect for teachers and this one is intelligent enough to teach advanced placement biology classes. He is a gifted, kind person from what I’m reading.

I think we all (myself very much so) often jump to closest, most recent, what logistically makes sense. The SonIL makes make sense for those reasons but he is still family so I do find the MT posting of that a bit unexpected myself.

Really?? I have known most of my mother's friends for decades. I know their names, their children and grandchildren's names. Many of them attended my wedding. I either have their phone numbers or I could easily get them (google has most).
My mom is 82 and lives in a 55+ apartment complex. When she moved in I exchanged phone numbers with one of her friends who lives there so we’d have a way to contact each other regarding my mom.

And yet their car was towed by LE, according to the Banfield report.

What is the motivation of this crime? Who benefits?

Now that Savannah has been removed from Olympic coverage, I wonder who will benefit from her not being there. Who takes her spot? Could that be what motivated this crime and not money?

I just don’t see it for that amount of money. It’s really not that much imo. Not nowadays anyway. Moo. Now if it were a million dollars for each maybe. If that is the case, I’m surprised I’m not dead yet. lol
the house + retirement is prob substantial.

I think because it is mentioned that the SIL might be a potential suspect I’m looking at it as a possibility. There’s obviously more evidence that they have that that we don’t know about. I’m hoping he isn’t involved and an arrest is made soon.

Many, many contributing members to society have committed crimes.

Not saying the SIL did this, but being a contributor to society does not always make you a good person.

It's unusual for a show-biz reporter who isn't known outside of that niche, imo, and who doesn't cover crime to have a significant detail about a crime and ongoing investigation. The skepticism about his reporting is to be expected, imo.

But in this case, whoa.

How did he know?

agree about the credibility.
This has just moved so fast.... speculation everywhere.

Now you're going with the Tonya Harding angle.

A person who needs money doesn't necessarily need millions. Could be a lower amount but is needed NOW, so the person went to someone with access to liquid assets. (I don't know this, just thinking aloud.)

We still don't really know this was a ransom for money case. Maybe there was another reason to take her - is there something else in her power she could do if commanded under threat? I don't know what that would be.

This is starting to get way too long here, thread wise I think. Is it prudent for a new one to be open yet?

I'm going to sit here patiently until another source implicates the son-in-law. I like AB fine. I just need some confirmation.

Good policy- None of what she reported may be true, or it may lack the needed context...for example the BIL and daughter may have volunteered to have their car searched and LE went to the trouble to get a warrant and tow it to avoid any issues down the road.
