AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

Why wait till Monday to kill her? That makes me think that Thursday isn't a hard line in the sand for the kidnappers and that if they don't have what they want by then, out comes Plan B. Cuz Monday is 3+ days away from their deadline.

And if she doesn't get her meds she might never even see Thursday. :(
tied to a railroad track that runs weekly. It sounds odd for sure but it makes no sense to kidnap an elderly person if you are not trying to get ransom. people have said a villain would remove her body because of DNA, but no way after an attack a villain's DNA would only be on her ... there would be some in the house. IMO.

With SG’s words about needing to see real proof that their mother was alive (and mentioning how it can be easily faked) did you get the impression that they’ve already been given very questionable proof of life evidence, or that they are setting a precedent of proof of life expectations?

With you on the first part, but I do not believe this was some sort of hit.

You do that, you don’t take the body, because you’ve got the distance between offender and victim already.

If you have a grudge, you take it out on the person directly (Savannah or something).

I’m still leaning random/possibly sexually motivated.

The random thing does muddy the waters though.
I hear you. This case has been so different, I guess nothing would really surprise me. I just hope she is found soon. Losing a family member is hard enough, but in a crime and not to be able to say goodbye? Even worse knowing some defense lawyer will try to defend evil on this down the road…Just sickening…

Savannah Guthrie's emotional plea for her mother's safe return.

That is a very good point. The ransom note became news just after the last "nothing burger" presser.

Was that presser set up to purposely NOT mention the ransom note? Why, though?

I don't know. I feel like we're crowdsourcing writing a made-for-TV mystery.

When something seems like a work of fiction...it usually is.
Having said that, we've all experienced "you can't make this stuff up" moments in real life.
But again, those moments are extreme outliers.

I wholeheartedly agree.

This is all my own opinion but it certainly raised my spidey senses when I discovered NG's daughter A/potentially with or without her husband were the last to see Nancy. Then were the ones allegedly called by a church goer at 11am. We all know DM are not the go to trustworthy source but where did they get this intel?

It makes absolute sense Nancy would attend church virtually - her mobility is extremely poor, and she loves I'm constant pain. Online is the most logical option. Our local church service you cannot see other participants. Obviously if this small fact - if DM have it wrong and actually you can see the list of participants that removes the suspicion. Without confirmation it seems extremely suspicious to me that daughter A was also the one who 'raised the alarm'.

However I still feel strongly they need to look closer at those who last saw her.. the open rear door and blood on the front door step make me wonder if something, accident or not, happened when Nancy was dropped home which led to the blood. Could the scene then have been staged, signs of a break in and disturb the scene out of I don't know...fear. and around 2am the perpetrator/s removed Nancy through the back door. Both cameras smashed show knowledge of the home.

How often would an apple watch sync to a pacemaker? Sorry if it's already been answered. I am not an apple person.

At the beginning of this case, I said I don't know what to think.

And I still don't know what to think.

I'm with you. This case is baffling.

Just saw the video, it came across my Facebook news feed.
This whole case is incredibly sad. I feel in my gut that she's gone.
So confusing and distressing it must be for the family...

Still thinking different person altogether. Maybe I’m thinking that if it were really true they kidnapped her, they would put NG on the video instead. Sadly, i’m staying with my belief that she is no longer alive on Earth and that this was done as a retaliation of some sort by family/ex family, hired help…. Moo
I agree with you. I just don't see this as hired help showing up late Sat night early Sun. Also, if she was in pain as family video states, and had health issues, why the heck was she living alone and not at least someone, family, caregiver, help her in bed each night and make sure she is comfortable, safe, and secure while she sleeps? Just bizarre to me

IMO the blood on the stoop indicates she was removed from the home alive.

For what possible purpose could that be, except a ransom situation.

Attack in her home, leave the body.
Attack in her home, take the body in order to destroy evidence.
Take from her home alive.... toward what end?

For me, as statistically impossible as it sounds, it gels with a ransom motive.

Crazy. But here we are.

But what if the blood is the perps? Accidentally stabbed himself with the screwdriver wrangling the Nest cam off its mount...

The brother did speak. Words to the effect of we miss you Mom. Stay strong.

Thank you, I just got to see it as I am recording News Nation.

I did see what you mentioned. To me, it looked like the brother was giving the stare down, and then said he loves her and to stay strong.

He’s probably taken down some bad guys in his career and I imagine he may have wanted to project the strength in the family.

Or not.

I give them all grace to react as they choose.

I'm not sure if "news nation" is a allowable source here so I'm not going to bring it here but check it out.

"We too have heard the reports about a ransom letter in the media.

So it sounds like the Guthries only heard about ransom demands from the media who received the demands. Seems unusual. JMO.
This bothered me as well- so law enforcement isn’t working with the family regarding the letter?

  • #3,454
This is exactly how I interpreted it. They've received a photo but don't know if it's a deepfake/AI image or real. MOO
I don't think they've received anything fro abductor if she was abducted alive. I also think it's suspicious that the last people to see her alive have remained silent to public especially when time is of essence. I also wonder if there's evidence in victim car

Between reports of police having shown the letter to Savannah, hostage negotiatiors at the house, and now the video they made, I really wonder if it actually is an obsessed fan and they made a demand for savannah to make a video. Man this is so weird and heartbreaking

moo
This is what I think too. Savannah probably has a few known stalkers that have made threats to her or her family members. She no doubt has a security team that monitors all communication to her. She could have recently received a private threat that they deemed credible and the ransom note made reference to it or used similar language or writing style. I had a stalker when I worked for a media company and the depth that my security team analyzed and picked apart every communication I received was incredible. It was very strategic that she lead this video and that she said “we are ready to listen.”

This is so white-hot right now. What if they don’t find her? What if they don’t have any suspects?

It has been posted here that it was reported as to when her pacemaker stopped or was last recorded. IMO
PACEMAKER — WHAT IT CAN PROVIDE IN AN INVESTIGATION
(Fact-based)

A pacemaker is a medical device, not a tracking device. However, with proper medical/legal authorization, it may provide limited timeline information:

• Last successful device transmission — may show when the pacemaker last communicated with its monitoring system.

• Device status at that time — whether the pacemaker was functioning normally.

• Heart rhythm/activity at last recorded moment — may indicate whether the heart was active at the time of the last transmission.

• Connection timing (if paired to a monitoring device) — may show when communication with a paired device stopped.

These data points can help establish a timeline reference, but they do not provide location or real-time status.

"We too have heard the reports about a ransom letter in the media. As a family, we are doing everything that we can. We are ready to talk. However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated. We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you, and we are ready to listen. Please reach out to us."

So it sounds like the Guthries only heard about ransom demands from the media who received the demands. Seems unusual. JMO.

This bothered me as well- so law enforcement isn’t working with the family regarding the letter?

I'm sure LE is working with the family on everything. This video seems scripted and like the family was told what to say and how to word things for LE's purposes, even if it comes across awkward or weird to us. It all seems very careful and strategic.

Anyone know more details on the Ransom note?

I don’t pay much attention to the church in person/virtual chatter. If the family said they got a call from a concerned church goer, then that’s easily verified by LE.
