AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

Yes, most "experts" I have heard discuss this case said it's extremely rare in the United States, but common in countries like Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, and Brazil, etc. I agree with your thought it was somebody known to Nancy OR it was a non-citizen from one of those countries, IMO. Praying for Nancy Guthrie.
It's also more common in Africa but it doesn't mean it happened to Nancy. I find it a bit racist to state this really. No need to put race into this.

I'm wondering if this friend didn't want to go to NG's house themselves because they didn't want to offend NG. You know, since she's elderly, it would definitely be concerning if NG broke routine. But a lot of times the elderly don't appreciate being "checked on" when breaking routine when, say, if a person 20 years younger did a similar action it would not raise alarm bells. Does that make sense? Maybe that's why the friend chose to phone the daughter, instead. I've had my mom's friends call me for that same reason, out of concern, because they felt awkward talking directly to my mom. My mom is 77. Circumstances are a tad different because Mom has cognitive decline, but I think the premise is the same (not wanting to offend NG).
Could it be that they called the daughter because they thought she might be sick? She was elderly and had a routine of going to church and didn't show.
They might not want to call NG because they were concerned she was sick and perhaps in bed (or worse) but being good friends they wanted to check up so they called her daughter?
I honestly don't see anything weird about this. MOO

And possibly they tried calling NG first and got no answer? so then called AG?
The truth is we don't really know who called whom, when.

But police for sure know who the family said called, they have checked phones to verify the call did occur, and they have spoken to the person who supposedly called. If someone lied about that call, the posture of the police towards the family would be very different, even to the point of someone being in custody. This is why I am skeptical of the Daily Mail report.

This phone call to Annie is a bit odd. If this friend from church was concerned enough over NG not in attendance, why didn't he/she go over to the house themselves? It seems to me that this person who had Annie's phone number must also be quite a good friend.

Had they gone to NG's home, they would have seen the blood outside the front door and called the police themselves.

Maybe it's nothing, but it seems a bit odd in an already odd case.
They did exactly what most would do in that circumstance if they had a # for local daughter. Church friends don't have keys to enter etc. It is a family matter unless that is not possible. I don't find that odd at all.

SG is VERY outspoken about it..... which is why i felt she was targeted with her mom being taken.... MOO
Guys, I think that moonbeam here is allowed to have their opinion that NG's abduction was potentially politically motivated due to the daughter's perceived political views. That is the real debate here, not whether or not SG leans one way or another. JMO. 🤷🏼🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♀️

It doesn't really explain why Craig isn't going because of Nancy?
The network appears to be tightening security for employees and their families as a precaution, in case the abduction is linked to SG’s celebrity status.

I think we can put to rest that BIL is a suspect, especially after the video the 3 siblings released yesterday addressing the ransom and saying, "We are ready to talk."
and yet people still keep bringing him up....

I wonder if it’s because the Olympics are a happy event and he wouldn’t be reflecting that happiness while thinking of what’s happening to Nancy and Savannah.
I watch the show and also think Craig is staying back to support Savannah and the case. It probably would be an easy request to NBC honor as winter games aren’t nearly as popular as the summer ones.

I made reference to a political attack against a judge. I understand that there are others but let’s pass on pointing out the others. I’m going to delete my post because it’s not my intention to bring politics to WS.

There is a DM article stating that NG didn't actually attend church since the COVID era but she did watch services from home.
i think that is a DM badly sourced article. The chuch she attends has live stream service however no way to know if she was watching. Nope I think she attended regularily on Sunday and probably saw the same group and sat in same pew. She was missed and luckily so to have someone check.

I don't find the call strange at all. I'm assuming someone called NG to check on her and when she didn't pick up the phone, they were rightly concerned.

Now, it might turn out not to be legit, but unless we hear otherwise, I don't find the call from church friends strange in the slightest. I'm guessing she was a member of the congregation for decades, not just some casual aquaintence people nod to on Sunday.

How credible is the Daily Mail who reported that NG didn’t go to church in person post-Covid? Because that would throw everything the daughter said about the call into question IMHO. But I can’t see why the daughter would lie about that call. But if NG hasn’t gone to church in years in person, I do not believe that call came to the daughter that quickly.

If I knew an older person who regularly watched church on Zoom and they weren’t there one day, my immediate assumption would be internet or computer issues, not
something urgent enough to call family that morning.
NG church is not zoom just live stream and no way to know if she was watching. I think church was an outing she did on Sunday and yes during covid and maybe long after watched in TV but no doubt attending regularly now. That is my guess.

I don't see that at all. Have no idea who LE thinks falls under the umbrella of suspicion, but they are probably pursuing all realistic possibilities at this point. JMO.

There was a vigil at a church last night but I didn’t hear if it was NG church. It was shown live on Ctv last night.

and i specifically didn't mention names when i said there had been others.....

edited to add: i was adding that to say that is WAS a possibility as a reason as it happens quite often. not trying to be political.

It doesn't really explain why Craig isn't going because of Nancy?
Not caught up yet, so possibly mentioned already, but my guess is because Craig and Savannah are the two main anchors.

Maybe NBC decided they needed to keep Craig in-studio to achieve some semblance of normalcy? It is a business, after all.

Of course both he and Savannah were supposed to be at the Olympics so it’s not that they can’t simultaneously be away, but clearly they both couldn’t be on air at the Olympics, so they settled on a different team.

I feel a bit sorry for Craig, but I’m 100% that he will do anything possible to support Savannah.

Obviously this is much bigger than the Olympics, on a personal level.

JMO and uncertain, really.

Banfield also made a huge point to say how credible her source was. We shall see I guess. Did you find it odd that FBI sent the ICAC squad to BIL house yesterday? ICAC - Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program and Agents Seize Multiple Items From Home of Savannah Guthrie's Sister Annie and Law Enforcement Agents at Annie Guthrie's House Amid Search For Nancy
this has been discussed in various posts and on live streams that they have a certain expertise and are often called in on cases like this. I don't think any other implications can be drawn.
