Sure, but that blood has already been processed. Now it would be different if they went back and reprocessed it, but that's not what happened.

I criticized this myself yesterday, and I stand by that. But I don't believe it is going to change anything, based on past cases with incredibly egregious mistakes much worse than this.

It may very well not change anything but the potential for contamination still makes it a big mistake, IMO. That's all I'm saying.

If they know the time of the “person detected” alert, how can they not know which camera it came from? Alerts are always linked to a specific device. Or are they trying to flush somebody out being vague about the camera situation? Hoping to spook the perp into thinking there were more than what he/she was aware of? But then why would they say they’ve been unable to extract data as it’s been overwritten? This is so confusing.

People let security stuff lapse all the time. Plenty of fancy homes have security signs in the yard and the mechanics installed in their home with no active service. I grew up in one of those homes. We left our back door unlocked.

My opinion: It sounds like there are 2+ cameras we are dealing with here: the Ring doorbell camera, which was disconnected around 1:45 am, and at least one other camera inside the house that detected movement around 2:15 am. None of the footage from either of the cameras is available for viewing because it was set to delete every 3 hours.

To me, that indicates that the perp knew there was a Ring doorbell and took action to remove it, but was NOT aware of the inside camera(s) and just got lucky that the footage deleted itself so quickly.

There are also motion sensors that don't record video. We have a couple of those in our house... supposed to ignore dogs.. but ours really doesn't so we disconnected it.

What i really don't understand is while the family has the resources why they didn't bother with the subscription. Especially because it's a elderly lady living alone and who is fairly fragile.

IMO it sounds like an oversight - something like one of the kids setting them up on a credit card that expired or forgetting to renew a subscription. Especially if her cameras were from multiple brands/used multiple subscriptions, I can see how one could be forgotten.

My mom and her siblings are constantly buying things for my grandma that they think will make her life easier. They set up any subscriptions for her so they can give her the items ready to go. I couldn't hazard a guess at who controls which subscriptions or even the total population of subscriptions in her apartment.

My thought is that it makes zero sense unless it's two different ransom notes from two different entities.

Good point. And for speed, with sample of visible blood you have something to test and you know there will be dna.
With “touch” dna, you are sending in items without visible dna and hoping they have dna detectable somewhere on them and that it’s enough to test. You might send in many items that look like they *could* have been handled by the criminal, all of which then have to get analyzed to see if there’s something on them to test, then test it… many potential items sent in probably don’t work out to find a sample. So I can see that could take quite a bit of time.

I actually was thinking about this Thursday deadline as to the reason the family wanted to make a plea just in case the ransom note was valid. I would do the same even if I were being told that it was more than likely a fake.

it could have been a tiny cut and not a bad injury, assuming she was on blood thinners.... even a tiny cut would bleed like a faucet!

Anyone else find those blood stains too perfect? no smears no outlines by blocked body parts like feet or legs etc.. like was the dripping the last thing that happened out the door and dripping was the center area of doorway...not as if like someone had hold of her from the side?
