AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

I'm sticking by my initial gut feelings:
  • This wasn't a kidnapping and the ransom note isn't real.
  • This wasn't committed by the family.
  • This wasn't financially motivated.
  • NG was removed to destroy evidence.
What evidence?

So if the church phone call thing is something that the FBI is unwilling to verify, doesn't it prove that they don't trust what Annie/SIL are telling them? If no church call to Annie, how did they know to check on her at 11:56?

All in all, we have SIL as the last person to see her alive supposedly dropping her off at 9:48, we have Annie the first person to check on her (for reasons unknown).... seems like the two of them are squarely involved in the entire 14 hour range when things went down....
Exactly. This would be easily verifiable, yet it is not.

Latest from Brian Entin....."something else in the letter"
I think something could be happening behind the scenes with this ransom situation.

border really likely isn't playing a part here, IMO. It's true it's not that far but it's a couple hours at least, depending on where you're going
The criminals might go down there, or be there right now. I agree, I’m sure they didn’t take Nancy to MX, would not return her from there. Too risky.

Question: Other than Banfield, has anyone said anything corroborating a vehicle was impounded?
No one else seems to be reporting this. I watched Ashley Banfield’s video this morning, where she interviewed Brian Entin and asked whether he had seen or heard anything about the car being towed. He said he hadn’t and mentioned that, with people camped out there around the clock, you would think someone would have witnessed it.

A family member or close friend could find much easier ways to obtain money from her, and maybe they have in the past. It merits an examination of who might have money problems. Nonetheless, my speculation is based on someone who is frequents the property and is aware of her circumstances and wealth. Someone who doesn’t have wealth and wants to hit the lottery.

Elderly are so vulnerable to financial predators. A cautionary tale to all. A good fiduciary is essential to elder years.

Amateur opinion and speculation only
My brother "scammed" $165,000 from our parents, who were in their upper 80's, before I became aware that it was happening and put and end to it. He told them scary, sad stories that pulled at their heartstrings (dog needed expensive surgery or it would die, he needed money for attornies as he was being unfairly sued, electricity shut off in winter, busness failings...) Looking back, I wish we had monitored their monies closer, but, I never in a million years thought my brother would do such a thing. It was a live-and-learn situation for sure.

It was literally this being removed from the timeline that swayed me in that direction.

I know it wasn't me you asked, but if she was killed in the house then the perpetrators DNA might be on her body. Hence why someone would want to remove the body.

Personally I tend to think she was injured but alive when she left the house.

Exactly...so if they verified it, like they verified the Uber driver, why not include it in the timeline. Isn't it "harmless" then?

I'm popping in and out of this thread as it's moving insanely fast and impossible to keep up for slow pokes like me! :)

I'm veering on the side of a long stewing grudge possibly personal or acquaintance/someone known to her. I can't see it being anything else after I review it all.

I don't believe there is an actual ransom note was there? It's dragged on too long for that in my opinion.

I don't think it's familial/insurance/inheritance related as there's 50 million other ways (well not literally but YKWIM) to have someone 'pass away' to get insurance.

Taking a possible living, fighting, immobile senior is not the way to get rid of someone for insurance motives MOO.. So that leaves a grudge of some sorts for me. Or did she stumble on some info? Fraud or embezzling of funds from somewhere?

Any important dates coming up? I always find timelines interesting - why did this crime HAVE to happen on that day and time? Was it random or connected?

Question: Early on, wasn't it reported that homicide was on the scene almost immediately?

Could alerts have gone to Nancy’s phone, which was left behind? First alert could be the “offline”/went dark one, perhaps second was after it had been removed? Maybe the perpetrator/s triggered something while removing the battery or destroying it?

The app on the Apple Watch replaces the bedside unit-my question is, what happens when out of range of the unit or app?

I am curious about who was set up w/ the alerts as well. I'm assuming it was to her phone, but it could have even been to her daughters (my elderly neighbors kids set up ring cams for their parents who have health issues and they get the alerts and can see their parents come and go etc).

If the skell removed the Ring cam physically (the Nest cams were reported to be "disabled" or destroyed) it could still be transmitting in a bag or pocket and even a shift in movement could push a "person detected". I've moved Ring battery Floodlight cams live from one spot to another and this can happen.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much sophistication on both ends; meaning NG house was a casual homeowner basic installed system (two brands, Ring and Nest, no subscription/cloud --it's $99!, no real serious effort) and the "kidnappers" seemed to be amateur hour as well.

I don't think it "proves" anything, respectfully. I'm thinking LE just doesn't want to release something that they have yet to verify, or they're trying not to put their foot in their mouth (again).

And to have family so squarely involved in the immediate time prior isn't fishy, it's perfectly normal given how close the family seemingly is. AG & TC are the presumably the closest family to their elderly mother, they are bound to be heavily involved in her life. And as has been noted, family is always going to be checked closely, especially in the beginning of an investigation. You work your way outwards from there.

IMHO.

Yes, the plant at the door also looks like lantana. Doubt it was part of an arrangement.

It's weird that they're so close to the door and not next the the sidewalk. It would seem "juvenile" "immature" to cut a few lantana stems and pass them off as a "gift". Yet, there are people who do this with lantana. (There are little kids who pick mine) I wouldn't expect Nancy to do this. I wouldn't expect another homeowner to do this.

It's almost as if someone came to the door with these in their hand to lure someone out. MOO MOO

Thanks for your observation....

Off-topic but there was actually an Amazon package left by the door too. I guess it was delivered after the crime scene tape went down. So sad.

I do not see an upset relative ripping off the ring cameras- esp if they were drunk or on drugs, IMO.

Why not? They would be recognized right away with no explanation why lurking about when NG happened to disappear.

The camera removal seems the bare minimum of aftermath work.

Apparently this wasn’t a rush job and any dolt would think of the camera especially in a drunk or drugged charged out of character attack they immediately regretted and tried to cover up.

Just because they are drinking or taken some drug doesn’t mean they were completely out of it just emboldened by it.

Because Mrs. Guthrie was so independent and had her own life there’s no telling it could be someone her family has no idea she has even a causal connection with or totally random from someone observing her out and about by herself and following her to see where she lives.

I think about that sometimes when I see elderly out by themselves they look so vulnerable and frail. But I’ve recently lost elderly parents and I know how strong in mind but how fragile physically they are.

all imo

This case becomes more baffling by the hour.

Part of me hopes the ransom is true and related. However, I feel like in 2025 in the age of information it's not hard to get familiar with an area or person with a quick google search. It really makes me wonder how the letter is worded/what it includes.
