What are the chances this is a thrill crime? Someone put great effort into planning and pulling this off. Maybe they aren’t motivated by the money, they just want to see if they can do it. Seems like they’re having fun with the media hoopla and playing chess with the fbi.

Coincided with the start of the Olympics.
Likely not related, IMO. Yes SG was supposed to be there but....olympics and missing mom of a commentator aren't adding up IMO

I've speculated before that the person(s) that did this is disappointed the body has not been found yet. May or may not point to motive.
Why would they be disappointed the body had not been found? What would the motives be for the crime in this theory?

I’ve followed some unprecedented cases on here (idaho4, Jayme closs, Luigi) but this one takes the cake.

Wildest one I’ve ever followed, and it’s not even close.
I take that you did not follow the Jimmy Hoffa or the J Paul Getty case. OK, the J Paul Getty case was just weird. They cut off his fricking ear and sent it to police. (Happened in Italy, not the US)

Oh and add Patty Hearst. She was the talk of our senior year in HS. She was a year or two older than us. Former cheerleader, turned terrorist bank robber. We were enthralled and couldn't stop watching and talking about it.

Actually I think Luigi and Idaho 4 were crazier than this.

I think it was someone who knew NG and is just getting a bit lucky.
I don't know if these ransom emails are hoaxes are not. Going out to the scene again could be to verifiy that these emails are not hoaxes.

That is a long stretch of road cleared out. Could it be a legitimate hostage situation?
Unless the kidnapper is holding her in the middle of someone's backyard no.

Well there's the quasi-verification that the second letter is real!
No it's not? They received a message, they are trying to authenticate it's authenticity.

In that case it would be someone needing to claim the inheritance/life insurance

Good hypothesis. If this is how it happened, I'd say it was a neighbor's son. If so, her body is nearby in that desert, close to her home. Even though they've searched and searched, it's difficult to find a body unless you actually know where it is. (Yikes. I sound as if I know all about these things.)
They found Barbara Thomas in the desert. Took a year, though.

we're running in circles.

originally the associated press (and many, if not all, local news sites) quoted law enforcement as saying there was 'evidence' of 'forced entry'. we've all seen the front door (without the ring/nest camera) and IMO there was no forced entry, at least at the front door. we'll never see the back door because LE wants to keep it that way (JMO).

it's obvious that NG left via the front door as blood was present, identified by DNA.

on thursday, the sherriff stated quite plainly that he didn't know where the rumors came from but 'forced entry' wasn't going to be discussed by them.

so...originally forced entry was a pseudo-fact according to the ap and many, if not all, local outlets. two days later pima county redacted that as "who said that? not us!"

1 - if the 'daily' caregivers are just that, they have a key. no need for forced entry, if some place the blame on he/she/them.
2 - if the 'daily' caregivers have keys, and wished ill intent, 'he/she/them' would intentially stage a 'break-in' otherwise all culpability would fall on 'he/she/them'
3 - if this was a random crime, why the heck would someone break into the back door (proof of forced entry) and risk exiting through the front door? why place risk of two sets of prints/entry-re-entry at both?

it makes no sense.
BBM above

Well lets say the original intent was not to take NG. But things happened and they/it/whomever decided she needed to be taken. NG weighs what 150lbs? Maybe too heavy for one person to carry around the house to the front where the vehicle is and also the higher risk of being seen.

NG may have been wrapped in a blanket to carry and blood leaked out of that ?

I think most people in that scenario would call the police or a loved one for backup or something. I don’t even live in the US, with the crime rates you guys have. It’s extremely safe here, but I’d never-ever open the door in the middle of the night, nor would anyone I know.
You are probably right, this theory is not reasonable in this day and age.

If it is they are getting a LOT of thrills out of this. I almost posted a while back that I didn't like how the family was seen in the video, practically begging the abductors, but ONLY because I could envision whoever did this was enjoying this, a LOT. I don't like mean people to enjoy the mean things they do to people.

The ease of access for drones has really struck me in this case. I don't remember another case where you could see so clearly into the restricted area. It almost makes moving the media further away irrelevant.

I wonder if the perp did a portion of their surveillance via drone. The landscape really seems to lend itself to high visibility....

What was the veiled accusation ?
During the video Harvey Levin said “English teacher” and the SIL is a teacher.

Some additional details we can release: 13 News received the new note this morning. We sent the IP address where the note came from to law enforcement. It is NOT the same IP address as the initial note, but it appears the sender used the same type of secure server to hide their IP address. The new note contains something the senders seem to think will prove to investigators they’re the same people who sent the first note.
Something identifiable in the house, that’s why they are back at the house, 3 rd inspection, asked reporters to leave…or else outside, near house

Well, I do keep saying/thinking it is the fastest moving thread I have seen here on WS, but I have not been on the site for all that many years..
@MassGuy ... do you sense that as well..... the lightening speed, and the amount of posting activity since thread initiation??? Or are you actually referencing the twists and turns
