Depends on the rock and if the person was or wasn't wearing gloves, imo. But you might also get dna if no gloves. Also imo.

In many countries, kidnapping for ransom is pretty common. Not so much in the United States. I hope that this is not going to be a trend. There are a lot of soft targets in the area.

I agree. And I think a lot of us (maybe not as old, not as wealthy) have reevaluated our home security. I'm doing a few things tomorrow before the Super Bowl.

This is an interesting question. I googled and results seem mixed. Looks like it will heavily depend on the type of rock. Best fingerprints come from non-porous smooth surfaces, but not all rocks fall into this category.

There is no proof of kidnapping, much less that this person committed the kidnapping.

Proof of kidnapping isn't enough? Isn't that a risk someone would have to absorb at that point?

There is simply proof that an elderly woman is missing under suspicious circumstances. There is proof that there is a ransom being demanded. There are indicators of foul play. To automatically link all of those together into one crime being committed by a single perp/group of perps would be doing an injustice to the investigation IMO

Probably a good time to mention that Kidnap and Random Insurance (K&R) is a thing and can be gifted (like from an adult child to their parent).

They sometimes offer it alongside travel insurance when you're going out of the country (I know I was offered it when planning a trip to Guatemala several years ago). Companies with employees that travel to high risk areas, like journalists and politicians, often offer it as part of a package. But it also can be bought as a standalone package by anyone if that's a concern.
