AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

  • #11,301
In the first note, the one(s) who took Nancy, gave two deadlines to meet their demand of 6 million in bitcoin - one on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. and another with something worse happening if the demand was not met by, Monday at 5:00 p.m. They also stated that there would be no further contact at this time.

"Poof of life" was requested by the family. The first deadline passed without the perp(s) sending POL. This delay makes sense since they originally stated that they would not be in further contact.

The First deadline slipped by without payment. I believe this may have been a strategic move so the perp(s) would communicate further, with LE hoping that they would mess up, allowing LE to track them down.

Right after the first deadline, the brother made a second plea.
Hence the second note. There was no ransom demand in this note. I believe it is because this second note's sole purpose was to show some form of POL. Possibly something that only those close to Nancy would know.

Sidenote: Just some observations with the assumption that these notes are legit and are from the one(s) who took Nancy.

Have you not seen the latest plea from Savannah, sitting between her brother and sister, posted to her Insta ??

Any thoughts on why the SIL bands Facebook page might’ve been removed?

TC and two other musicians have had a heavy metal band called ‘Early Black’ for quite a few years and they posted photos and updates frequently on Facebook. I read through most of it on Tuesday night and by Wednesday the page was gone.

Probably all the discussion online about him and his band member. Makes sense they'd pull it down

This part, right here. Not "she" but "this". That reads like a response to something specific. As does "celebrate with her". A specific response to something.
I am so hopelessly behind. That word really bothers me too. It's almost as if there might have been another communication we do not know about.

This next part is not directed at you personally.
I'm sorry to bring this up, but if Nancy is deceased, the body is going to deteriorate fairly quickly. The kidnappers are not going to bring Nancy back to Tucson and risk getting caught with a deceased body on the way back. They would have to dump her or place her somewhere and let it be known where. Not realistic.
The word 'understand' jumped out at me. what does that mean? I don't accept what the 'experts' are saying it means.
It almost sounds to me as if there was another communication or at least something more in the message they received.
It almost sounds as if the kidnapper is naive if he/she/they really believe several million dollars could be gotten together that quickly. This is no movie. I'll go with it being a young person (people) with no real world experience. No criminal background prior to this. They do not have Nancy. The ransom demand is a diversion in my opinion.
I'll go with the older man with a white beard that was interviewed by a random media person. He was too happy to help. Too excited. It wouldn't be the first time the perpetrator offered to help. He was asked if he lived in the neighborhood and he said no, but not too far. He could have been fixated on Nancy and she rebuffed him. He could be holding her in his house right now. One ex FBI person stated that she could still be in the area being held.
I'm way behind with no hope of catching up, so if this scenario (right word?) has been mentioned, I'm sorry.

But wait - IF and I mean a big IF... AG and hubby are involved or even one of them, there's no way they could hide or explain that ransom money even if they got it! What in the world would or could they do with it? They definitely couldn't spend it!

To invest overseas or find a broker to 'bury the money' would be tough.

So if they are involved it would be an after thought to spin a kidnapping/ransom plot to divert suspicion.

I'm not sure it's them, but maybe someone close to them? Argh I go all over the place here!
True, but perhaps the money they are initially going for is from the family trust, paid out in the case of NG's death.

At some point, when they determine she has passed, her relatives will share the proceeds from her estate and any life insurance etc.

It would hold them over for quite awhile, things would settle down...and then if they slowly spent a bit of cash here and there, would anyone notice?

Re POL -- if the "kidnappers" are associated with the family, the kidnappers themselves might be privy to information "that only those close to Nancy would know".

I bet he has an attorney already. Guilty or Innocent, he needs one right now.

First thing the defense atty would say is SHUT DOWN your social media---all of it.

I completely disagree. It's 2 hours out of his day. And maybe he had a family member playing or some ties to the game, who knows. He's entitled to his own time. Come on. It shouldn't be news. I don't see it as disrespectful.
I get what you're saying and ofc he is entitled to his own life i just think it wasn't smart of him to do knowing he is such a public figure in all of this. Especially since at the same time a lot of other things in the investigation seem to be going on.
It's just my own opinion 😅

When it happens, it’s almost always criminal elements kidnapping other criminals.

I have never seen a true kidnapping for ransom in my life, and I still don’t believe I have.

I think this is an evil hoax.

That tracks, given that most will never be "seen" publicly because they are never reported.

Just to check, though, any reason you're not counting Matthew Muller's many convictions for abduction and extortion? They involve SA, but that surely shouldn't disqualify them considering SA is one of your personal theories in this case.

In my lifetime the prominent cases, limited to what I expect is the implied narrow qualifying geography, that come to mind are Iglesias Puga, Heineken, Slater, and Fiszman.

Yes, but I was just describing the notes received since we just learned last night of the actual ransom demand amount and the actual deadline times.

Who do you think they are appealing to in the latest appeal - Annie's husband?

I agree.. I personally would've made sure EVERYTHING was done and even stay a bit.

It is odd.. but families are odd as well. Out of the 12 years doing this, I can only count on 1 hand the times families were actually very helpful. Most times... I've literally seen it happen before. Son or Daughter drops client off and speeds off, I've even had the sibling call me "Oh I dropped so-so off in the garage and left without closing the door.. oh that was 5 minutes ago -- click".

Thankfully I was nearby when that call happened. and was there in less than couple minutes. I'm even dealing with it now the past 2 years I've been trying to get the siblings to be around their parent more and more, but it's like I'm rubbing salt on a wound each time I tell them the importance, especially getting closer to EOL.

It bothers me so much when I see it, and I've seen/heard worse than what 'supposed' IL did if that is the case and not surprised. I'm not defending the IL either, just giving a 'it is plausible' scenario.
But we don’t know whether the person who dropped her off stayed or not. Remember, LE don’t have to and probably won’t, give the public a full timeline of events. I think for the most part, the timeline is take the heat off of the person or persons who dropped NG off and not for any other reason.

  • #11,313
i believe your interpretation is the right one.
They are different events.
A Celebration of Life is usually down the road, not very close to the person's death. The event is meant to be more spiritually "lifting" the person who had died to the afterlife through love compassion memories and jovial comraderie.
Like a New Orleans jazz funeral where they march down the street playing jazz music? Also like an Irish Wake where most everyone gets smashed, tells jokes, and laughs? No disrespect meant.
A celebration of life to me is sometimes the same as a funeral, and other times without an actual deceased person more appropriately called a memorial service.

If it were me and I had a bandmate suspected of foul play in a disappearance, yeah, I'd not be putting anything out there until it is resolved. For sure they aren't doing gigs right now anyway, which is the reason you'd put your band on social media. So take it down.

This is true. I just don't see how they could be sending these notes, if they are legit, with LE all around.

Edited: My bad - I now see you stated associates not necessarily immediate family.

  • #11,316
Is there any reason they would be doing this unless AG's home is considered part of the crime scene?
I am just guessing, but could it be that it was the last place she spent any amount of time in before going missing?

  • #11,317
A family member having a financial motive to murder is fairly common in terms of motives for murder in general, but if the goal is to collect an inheritance or administer property on behalf of the deceased then a death certificate is required. And a death certificate requires a body unless the murderer wants to wait 7-10 years to petition the state to issue one in absentia.

In other words, a family member murdering another family member for an inheritance or financial gain isn't uncommon, but he/she isn't going to get it by hiding a body so well that LE hasn't found it in going on 7 days now. And he/she sure isn't going to foment a worldwide media spectacle as his/her "diversion" and/or backup plan to get paid.

Defies all reason.

JMO.
It might be already planned out---they may wait a little bit for things to cool down, then maybe a letter will be sent with a map to the remains site.

OR it is being kept somewhere that will eventually be discovered?

They could even call a tip in anonymously with a burner phone after a couple of months---by then the remains will be skeletal and not hold any tell tale forensics.

At this point I'm landing on an after the fact "kidnapping" misdirection by the perp. Perp took advantage of public conjecture about whether this was a kidnapping. Seems like someone close to the family (not a stranger) would have a motive to hide NG if they killed her. The blood outside the front door could have been missed by the perp. If that blood was missed what other blood was missed? JMO.

Good point, but I have to admit that the timing is a bit odd. The delay might be because they were waiting to get a search warrant and finally got one. Just a guess.

Could it be to prevent comments on their page after AB pointed the finger?
