AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

  • #13,661
Law enforcement has clammed up completely since last Thursday. No press conferences. No interviews. No appeals for the public's help. I think they're putting their case together and don't need the public for anything.

My opinion.
That's what I think, too. They've got it figured it and are gathering rock-solid evidence and following all the proper procedures so their evidence will stand up in court and the suspect(s) will be convicted. Fargo said it well - they are pulling their case together and no longer need input or tips from the public. MO

So, how do the billboards it into all of this?

The criminal complaint filed against fake ransom hoaxer was filed the same day as the press conference. I have highlighted it above. I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope this puts the whole church thing to rest for now. It happened and it said 'had not attended church that morning'. Seems pretty clear to me.

I wonder if anyone in the mainstream media or podcasters have attempted to identify who initially noticed NG did not show up for church?

I ask because I followed a case in 2024 on WS where an older couple was also discovered missing when they did not show up for church. (Stephanie and Daniel Menard) The person reporting them missing provided a lot of information in media interviews. But in this case - not a word from any of NG's friends or acquaintances.

Well, what about causing an auto accident, and they charge it as a murder?
You can absolutely murder someone intentionally in an auto accident. But there's also "vehicular homicide" charges for this as well. Murder requires intent. Homicide requires a human taking the life of another human. The spectrum of allowable charges is pretty wide when you look at homicides.

I really hope noone starts sleuthing the church members. They deserve privacy on this matter. If LE need to investigate further, I hope there are no leaks. I know we all want that supposed phone call confirmed, but there are also likely elderly church members that want and deserve to keep a low profile, especially given the circumstances of Nancy's disappearance.

This might just have to be a piece of information we park to the side until LE talk about it further IMO

If there isn’t a big announcement or some kind of major forward movement in the case tomorrow I’ll be surprised.
I won't be surprised if there isn't, but I definitely wouldn't be shocked if there was. I think this is going to be a HUGE week.

So nothing happened today?

I'm not sure it puts it to rest at all. For all we know, this information was only relayed to LE by the sister's family. Until there is proof, it is hearsay; i.e., a named witness to that account, etc. A defense attorney would rip this statement apart in court unless the party is named and has signed an affidavit.

Yes, the party might have asked not to be named but the complaint should have included and made reference to that affidavit, while keeping the caller's name private, at least for now.

Nobody seems willing to go there, but this has the earmarks of a cartel extortion written all over it. Well researched. Somewhat sloppy execution, and all the leverage.

You would think. lol It's like trying to put out a fire in a windstorm, though.

And no... The fire and the windstorm are not in a band.
They are in Earth Wind and FIre right? lol Thank you for having a sense of humor and for the help

I wonder if they are scared?? For their own safety!

Just wondering if it could be that NG would talk about "going to church" with family, when she was attending online and it was just assumed by the family she was "going" (driving herself) to the actual church. Speculating, but this could be the kind of verbal misunderstanding that might lead a person to say things about an absence from a place being missed, when in actually the person was "going" online (unbeknownst to the listener)? Just my opinion/questions- what do you think?

The church, the family. All distractions. They reached 100 miles into the US and sent a message.

They probably are, but I haven't seen any confirmation from LE that they spoke to this caller to confirm the call.

Why would the cartels want anything to do with an old lady? Plus there's zero evidence cartels were involved.

I just find it so ironic with NG and SG favorite hometown restraunt being Mexican and them heavily promoting it, being loyal customers, for it to be cartel related, that would suck.

Good point.

Abducting a person they knew would get heavy media coverage.
