AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

Interesting, I’ve been wondering about that. I kinda figured it had to be specific and not in a general/common area but you never know

Choosing TMZ is curious and possibly telling. My gut reaction is that the letter author is younger, like no older than 30. Not entirely excluding a boomer, gen x, or elder millenial but it wasn’t even sent to TMZ and NBC (which would be the more obvious/logical choice), it was sent to a celebrity gossip site that doesn’t have the classiest reputation — why? I mean that’s weird, it just is. Strikes me as teenage behavior honestly (or someone trying to pose as one)

I love this site because everyone has such creative thinking.

I believe that they used TMZ because they were confident they would release the information. Reliable news, sources may not have.

Interesting, gang initiation???

Have not seen that come up but very plausible indeed
Yep! I guess part of the initiation was they needed to sexually assault someone. I will say that this occurred in an area with a high rate of violent crime/gang violence, which doesn’t seem to be the situation with NG. But you really never know

Thank you. But that doesn't sound like a 911 call. That sounds like a APB or BOLO to me, which is after the fact. Do you know if the 911 call to LE was released by chance?

JMO.
Oh shoot you’re completely right. I could have sworn I’d heard/seen the actual 911 call but now I can’t find it anywhere so maybe it was just this and I’m getting confused

Yes indeed. Someone wrote a RN with a body still in the home, hidden away. Quite fascinating.
The parents wrote it, obviously

They used TMZ because they watch TMZ. They used the others because they are local to Tucson and they probably watch them too.

Did the recovered (2/6) rooftop camera give LE any info? I hope so. They have not had a PC since this camera was recovered and presumably are not going to answer any questions about it right now. IMO

Different people see things differently.
To me, the FBI Director Kash Patel is running to Arizona because ... results are slow to come and higher up supervision is needed to motivate the foot soldiers with their work.
It is strange how slow the FBI came to fore given that the very day there was a bitcoins ransom demand, fake or legitimate, it was a FBI case because bitcoins transactions are interstate banking transactions.
When interstate banking transactions are used in a criminal act (missing person or murder or kidnapping), FBI should be involved presto!
What took the FBI so much time before they got involved?
Even after the dully elected chief executive officer of the United States of America committed publicly that DOJ and FBI resources are mobilized in this case, it seems the FBI is sluggish. Why?
As recently as yesterday Feb 9th, the FBI made a statement that they are not aware about some communication between local lawmen and the family Guthrie in one side with the criminals demanding ransom in the other side. Why?

Outside of the family, Nancy was last known to be seen by an Uber driver who took her to Annie's house around 5:30 p.m. Saturday evening.

Nancy was reported missing around noon Sunday.

The first letter demanding a 6 million ransom in bitcoin was sent to two Arizona news stations Monday evening.

I now need to apologise! I just looked it up, and everyone was right except me! I once knew a lady with a pacemaker, and that's what she told me. But that was decades ago, maybe things were different then. Sorry!
No worries!

fake news coming across on my facebook. Almost fell for it.
Yep, I fell for the Savannah Guthrie AI 6 fingers headline in my Insta feed.

Hmmm. Ot almost to avoid NBC for some reason maybe? I would think NOT sending to NBC woukd rule out this idea of crazy superfan as others have suggested.

Just checked the timeline, the pacemaker ‘stopped syncing’ with the phone at 2.28am. The phone was found on the kitchen counter. So it seems like she must have had the phone with her in bed but then brought it downstairs (I think most of us would bring our phone with us if we heard a disturbance in the night).
BBM
An older person may or may not think to grab their phone in this situation. If they are awakened in the middle of the night, half asleep, confused or scared. Older people did not grow up with phones, they have to remember to bring their phones with them.

It is probably automatic with young people, not necessarily with older people.

Here is another thing I want to point out is the choice to do this Saturday night. If it were some random unemployed person, homeless guy, etc any night would have worked. Choosing a Saturday night (if premeditated) to me says, I work a 8-5. Im tired, im resting planning Friday night all day Saturday. Striking Sat night so I can be done and prepare to go back Monday to work. This is a person with a regular structured job. Mon - friday 8-5 in my opinion. This is obviously not someone who works in a night shift job whereby they works weekend night shifts.

I have read about 80% of the comments and I'm still not sure:
1. Was there a crime scene at NG house? Yes I know about the blood on the front porch but it could have happened days before.
2. Is LE convinced she was taken from her home (signs of a struggle?), or could the "abduction/assault" have occurred earlier in the evening-not even at her house, and the garage door opening was the abductor getting a "set up" in order.

Huh. IMO this would explain the additional searches that were done at NG’s & AG’s. It always seemed to me like someone was running down a checklist saying, “ok did you do this? Ok, how about this? No?? Well go do it! Ok great job. Now how about this? No??? Well go do that too!” Maybe the additional searches that some of us were surprised weren’t done initially was because it took awhile for the FBI to get in there and make sure all investigative leads were done.
Yep, thats probably why all the back and forth. Feds got there and they were like you guys didnt do this? Go back. What? You guys didnt do this either? Go back. So, to the public it looks sketchy, but to the feds, it should have been routine investigation 101. No offense to local dept, but they do routine work. This is like your general doctor trying to treat you in their general office and say come back in 6 months and send you home to die because it turns out you had cancer but they didnt even run routine tests.

I believe she liked to watch the wildlife. I live in Washington state and there are people in my neighborhood who love to share on FB every single deer, elk, coyote, raccoon, occasional bear that comes across their backyard camera.

I missed all the discussions from yesterday 😔.

Now that it's been released that Nancy was to visit with friends to watch the service her routine is a somewhat clearer. The knowledge that she got out and visited friends and family makes my heart 🥰. I'm praying for them all.

This now opens the door to so many other possible suspects. Friends, family, and acquaintces of this group of friends.

I've seen that the phone was on the counter. Did she notice something on the cameras and was walking to investigate, the person had managed to get in the home at the time and met her in the kitchen? Or did I see something saying she was in bed and removed from it?

I haven't seen anything saying that valuables were taken from the home (jewelry, electronics). Even if this was a burglary interrupted, the perp likely would have still taken items.

Was there reporting that the flood light was damaged? If so, was there glass and pieces of it still there on the ground (indicating it may have happened at the time of the kidnapping) or was it cleaned up (maybe damaged earlier)?

The blood at the the front door. When was the last time, before the kidnapping, that Annie was known to use the front door?

Back to the floodlights? Was a light damaged at the back? Could a 2nd perp have went out the back door to break it after the fact and walked around front to meet the other perp? Running in auto pilot thinking, I'm going right back in, and leave the back door open by mistake?

I know I'm all over the place.😔
It screams this is somebody that knew the home and/or knew Nancy. I was in the fence about the ransom letters. Right now, I don't believe they are from the real kidnapper(s).

Someone mentioned up thread that Nancy's church member should come forward. I think not! This person, along with the group of friends has likely been interviewed multiple times and have given what they know. No need to further expose themselves while their friend is missing without a trace. And I really hope their information doesn't get out there to the public.

I believe in one of the press conferences the sheriff said that it was clear she didn’t leave on her own.

We still have not authenticated the ransom email angle. Period. Many ex LE have expressed their doubt about it. Whether the investigation has excluded it and are moving forward is now a possibility. If it was a scam or misdirection it certainly took a lot of media focus and resources so it would be a successful one.
Ransom is now a moot point. It wasnt paid, as directed, to the Preferred BITCOIN account. FBI, LE, and Websleiths do not have a crystal ball as to whether it was legit or not. Family makes the decision. They didn't pay it. They rolled the dice either way. Frankly, I am surprised. What happened to "we will pay" ? MOO

I’ve been going over the first press conference and the sheriff seemed almost defensive in the way he said they’re considering it a kidnapping. “When someone is taken out and they don’t choose to go, it’s a kidnapping.” Or something like that. Then he said until they have other info that shows it’s a crime scene, it’s a kidnapping. It made me feel like..why are you having to convincing us it’s a kidnapping?
