So they're just looking for an ID then, if that's true that's pretty disappointing. That they don't even have a name or know who this person could be/relation to NG...

I think the big thing that is disappointing imo is how they missed these cameras/the initial searches by local LE and FBI when they initially came in missed so much. I am of course presuming that this camera is from when the FBI went back a 2nd time?

Good reminder - there used to be public service info to plan ahead in case there is a fire at your house (like, think about all your home exit routes). I also read about an earthquake survivor who said - of all things - having shoes near the bed would have been good - he said there was broken glass from things falling and it was dark. I appreciate your idea.

Those are great points as well, for other emergencies. The older I get, the more I prefer to be prepared for anything, to the extent we can be.

EDIT: Another tip that makes me feel safe and family members have taken up as well, is a door jam alarm. Cheap on Amazon. Stick it under your bedroom door, or front door, or bring to a hotel while traveling. No one can tell if it's on the other side and it gives you (and them) warning.

JMO but I doubt LE would release a photo of the suspect to the public before making an arrest if they had already identified him. This rules the SIL out for me at this point.

ETA: It also rules out anyone within NG's close circle IMO. I'm now leaning towards the perpetrator being either a total stranger or someone with a very peripheral, second- or third-degree connection to NG.

But what if the person in the mask was hired by a family member?
