AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

  • #17,781
If it was pitch dark and no one could've seen him, how did he see the camera?

JMO.

As you approach the Nest doorbell camera the button you would use to ring the bell starts to light up a ring around it.. it detects motion and starts lighting up in a circle shape... you can't miss it.

When he removed the camera, where did he put it? I know it's small, but the backpack is already full.

Please someone recognize this monster.

Looks like astronaut gloves. Looks like they are almost wearing a blow-up body suit underneath to puff them up. doesnt look like any beard stuffed under anything so IMO, not the SIL..Has a gun per Commentators. So..guy with a gun. Wanted to be totally concealed. MOO. Has backpack containing????? Well planned. Well executed. Definitely think ransom note was part of this. JMO

This creep MUST have a driver. Can't drive w all the disguises and layers of stuff
Good observation.

Cellphone??
If you look at the way it perteudes over the top bit of the pocket opening I definitely think this could be a walky talky, perhaps connecting them to an accomplice without leaving a digital trace like a cellphone would. JMO

Ok, I didn’t expect to come back here and find these terrifying new images. I guess I will post my theory anyway. It’s pretty basic. This is MOO.

IMO, I have felt since the beginning that the person who took Nancy was known to her. I believe they did some kind of work for her. She may or may not remember them at first glance, but they never forgot her.

My first thought was that this was carried out by a caregiver who was let go in the past few years or so, due to insufficient performance, personality conflict, or worse. Does Nancy even have a caregiver? I have an 89 year old family member who doesn’t have a caregiver, has her own home, but has a cane, still drives locally, and has an active social life.

If it was a caregiver, IMO she carried this out with the help of one or two males - (husband, family member, friend). This scenario also applies to housekeepers and others who did some sort of work for Nancy - landscapers, pool care, handy men, roofers, electricians, etc.

If Nancy liked paying workers by check, like many seniors do, IMO LE will have to look into what workers/businesses Nancy paid in the past few years through her bank statements and check book, which they are probably already doing.

Do any of Nancy’s friends/family remember Nancy complaining about a worker or business or even a neighbor, that she was not happy with, or had a confrontation with, or a worker who gave her the creeps? IMO this was an act of revenge. The big payback.
IMO LE might need to dig further back than the past six months, because grudge holders can sometimes be very patient people.

IMO, this person, grew to greatly resent Nancy over some perceived unfairness. Were they let go at a bad time of year? Was their work shoddy and did that became an issue?

IMO this act was not done for ransom. IMO the ransom notes were created by opportunists and they are all fake.

IMO this has nothing to do with SG’s celebrity. This was done by a person who holds a grudge over Nancy over some conflict. They were hateful and jealous of the good, comfortable life that Nancy has and were determined to take that away from her.
My theory. My opinion only. Thanks for reading.
If that's the case, which it may well be, why did this person take Nancy and to where? What do you think might have been in that backpack?

This person I feel could be quite a young man, given his softer look, having maybe not fully grown into his face, the way he walks and holds himself and the lack of foresight. I think this person is about 19-23 years old. He just reminds me of that age group of boys I worked with.
I have boys in the 20s and they move so much more smoothly. They don't bend over like that to pick something up. But the backpack perhaps is heavy?

he definitely has a mustache and beard

How can you tell? I keep staring at the pictures but I don’t see that. The eyes look feminine to me, which I know means nothing.

Some are speculating a second mask could be being worn underneath the balaclava. If I knew there was a ring camera I would certainly take extra steps to conceal my identity. These anti camera recognition masks have gained popularity relatively recently

Yes, and that's a scary thought.
Or a hidden message to SG regarding her work?

This is NOT to say that there is anyone in the US government that would be involved in this, but that there are bad actors who will USE this sort of message to intimidate or pressure.

People will look to point elsewhere to divert attention, or to take advantage of the fact that SG is a public figure.

I feel as if I have to just make OPINION my username.

My doorbell/camera system picks up the image before the doorbell rings. I have a subscription so I see it on my phone. I’ve had to start locking my full length glass screen door because a few times folks have opened the glass door to knock on my wood front door. I want to say, dude, I already have you on camera. It makes me think some people don’t know how security systems work. Also, before adding the security system, this never happened, they just rang the regular doorbell.

I know people are debating right vs left handed, but there's a possibility the suspect is ambidextrous. JMO based on the gun holster and picking/handling things with their left hand.
Right hand needed to be free in case he needed to draw his gun. jmo

Terrifying images. I think this person is wearing multiple masks. The outer balaclava style one and then at least one underneath, maybe latex.
I think so too. The area around the eyes looks very much like those realistic rubber masks you can buy on Amazon. Some have mustaches too. The darker area that almost looks like eyeliner really resembles the darkness of the edge of one of those masks when they are on.

I think he had on one of those, then put the balaclava over it. Unfortunately this means we can’t even be sure of his skin color.

Also, the glow from the light hitting his eyes seems pretty large - like his eyes were really dilated. Could’ve been high on something.

Poor Nancy.

I agree with others who have posted that this looks like a professional hitman of some sort. What do we think the motive is now that we have this new footage?
IMHO, I suspect that a professional hitman would have arrived prepared to deal with a doorbell cam by being equipped with tape to cover it or a hammer to disable it, rather than having to examine it with a flashlight and then wander around in front of it randomly for a longish period of time.
Also, if it's anything like mine, not only would it be recording, but it would also have been alerting the occupants of a person's presence.

Maybe one of these?
Great job! I was wondering about this....as he/she is walking up you don't see the light...but then you do....without the hands ever going up to the mouth....this surely could explain it.

Definitely thin (not bushy!)

Also the head looks puffy, possibly longer hair under the mask?
The eyes appear to be almond shaped. At first, I was struggling with the idea that they were made up but I think it was just dark eye lashes. I also thought the neck of the mask looked bulky too. I wondered if it was hiding more than a bare neck. Maybe a beard? I don't know the temps at night out there. Could also be a turtle neck under it.

See photo regarding the backpack - could look at stockists and recent sales?
Guessing FBI has tapped their databases for every element of the person's gear and clothing, and cross-referenced.

I’m sure this person is watching the TV coverage.

I wonder what they think ? If they were so sure they left nothing that could identify them,

if they are surprised at all of the info the video has already shown, coat. Gloves , shoes, gun, backpack, provided for the FBI, down to their eyebrows and moustache ,

That they will be identified sooner rather than later. The public commenting helps as well.

I wonder what the perpetrator is thinking right now.

I just can't get over the fact that the day before Nancy was taken, 2 hours away in Scottsdale, two teens with supplies, disguises, and tools committed a home invasion demanding 66 million in crypto. And were instructed and paid to do so by anonymous masterminds(allegedly). Then the next day some guy/girl shows up at a home in another Arizona city, also with supplies and a disuise, also at night, kidnaps Nancy, and ransom notes demand 6 million in crypto.

Coincidences and oddities happen sometimes, but I can't get over that.
Scottsdale Home Invasion Linked to $66M Crypto Plot, Teens ArrestedFollowing an initial probe, detectives determined that Sullivan and LaPaille were likely “pawns” rather than the operation’s masterminds. Records indicate the teens were contacted roughly a month prior by individuals using the handles “Red” and “8” on the Signal app.

They could be related!
