That the criminal brought something with him to uses/supplies he thought might be needed for some purpose. That is what I would think a backpackk with items means.
Okay, thanks.

I wonder if the sheriff is trying to throw people off. My source confirmed what Ashleigh B. reported about the back door being open, and as you know, the AP and other news sources reported 3 days ago that "investigators found signs of forced entry according to a source close to the investigation." At this point -- I don't know WHAT to believe. This whole thing is getting stranger and stranger...
Sorry still learning

Could it be intruder went there to get money from Nancy, supplies backpack to tie her hands and gag her. Was going to take her to an ATM and out of fear she says, “I don’t have money but my daughter does.”

This guy doesn’t seem all that bright, took a couple of days to learn about Bitcoin and to write a letter.

I feel some relief that her medicine and equipment was being looked for in the search last night.
Who said someone was looking for her medicine last night?

Yes but it doesn't mean that is b/c he is so skilled, it just could mean they made more mistakes at this point then him...
I agree - sounds dark but I think if they focused on finding her body they'd be able to determine cause of death, possibly find DNA, back track from the location where she is found and find camera footage from nearby stores- which would all lead them to a suspect. Instead LE is seemingly chasing a ghost and hoping it'll lead them to NG. :(

Thank you StM. This coincides with my idea that this is a teen male or perhaps young 20's. A mixture of male and female in terms of appearance. Also his inexperience and poor judgement. Lack of funds. Clothing second hand, thrift shop, etc.

Also the disconnect from his no worry attitude and the serious crime he was about to commit.

My work background is in mental health so I have been thinking about that piece of it. Is this guy mentally ill in some way. Or suffering from some intellectual impairment.

This may be a strange question, but the way he has positioned the (pretend?) gun seems like a red flag to me from a clinical perspective. Right in front of his crotch. Is this a normal placement for a gun? If so, why would someone do that? What does it mean or signify?

In one post someone said it almost looked like it was a guy with a few drinks in him, the way he was just casually strolling then picking up the latanas flowers, then fumbling with the doorbell cam. I chuckled, but it resonated. He does have some sort of casual detachment or abnormal comfort level given the gravity of what he's doing, and it's not in some cold and calculated pro-criminal way. It is possible he was on something be it recreational or medical.

Regarding the way the gun was holstered at his crotch. There is a way to conceal carry a sidearm called appendix carry. It involves tucking the gun into your belt, front and center. It gives you quick access for a fast draw but can be awkward.
appendix.webp
What he did was not concealed. It was an awkward low hanging version of this, and it was in a long hanging holster that did not seem to match the gun. This seems to indicate opportunity, cheap, worked practically but it did not match the gun and that further makes me think the gun could have been a replica/airsoft used just for intimidation. If he thought he might actually need to use the gun in commission to a crime why would he have such awkward gloves on that would put him at such a disadvantage if there was a potentially armed homeowner. But if he's coming for an 84 year old lady that lives alone in a dark secluded neighborhood. a replica displayed front and center might be all he needs to threaten her. Remember in the earlier frame he had the gun concealed, and he came up with it hanging front and center, which means to me, he wanted it to be seen, likely for intimidation and coercion to get the homeowner to comply.

So it seems to me to be an awkward, practical albeit fumbling way to display a threat (which again may not be a real firearm, we just don't know) that matches the obtuse practicality he displayed with the rest of his get-up (mouth light, thick awkward gloves that he thought would hide fingerprints/dna better perhaps, reflective backpack--poor choice strictly practical, will do, etc.)

How do you explain the Ring camera footage in that theory?
I’m not saying it’s my theory of what happened… just that the basic premise behind Occam’s razor would point to something far less complex.

With that being said, folks operating under the accidental death theory seem preoccupied with her not having come back home at all. It’s entirely possible she came home and something happened at her house. The goofy person showing up and making a big deal out of parading around the camera with a brazenly displayed firearm instead of just kicking in the door would be an attempt to cover up the earlier death and start painting a certain picture in that instance.

Not even saying it was family, just more likely and less complicated that someone that knew her accidentally killed her and went the Hollywood route to cover it up versus a legitimate plot by multiple kidnappers that makes little sense and has done nothing for them except put them in the crosshairs of a massive law enforcement effort.

For an amateur, he’s certainly defeated fed, state and local investigators for 11 straight days.

Feeling so sad for NG’s family tonight. Reality must be sinking in.
sometimes complete idiots get lucky.

though i don't think this guy is a complete idiot. i see him putting thought into all his actions. not necessarily good thought -- there are mistakes and signs of amateurism here. but not just charging ahead like a big dumb animal.

I agree, the SIL theory is lower probability at this point given the more recent evidence.

But just to answer your question about why an adult child/grandchild might kill a parent over money issues:

1. They don't want to split the inheritance with other siblings.
<snip>
How would killing them mean they wouldn't have to share the inheritence?

But he soooo enjoyed dressing up for the event.
LOL, yeah, he probably took a selfie before he headed off to his mission.

Occam's razor says the most straightforward explanation is likely true - I don't think SIL dressing up in a mask for the camera is a straightforward answer.
Who said anything about the SIL in this chain of messages?

I'm not falling for the black glove, maybe just me .
Doesn't look like the same type glove.
The one the perp is wearing looks more rubbery and thicker,
We have that same type and they are for bar-B-Q ing.
They are thick black rubber with a white cotton type lining.
So , no, too much coming in at once .
Nancys home should have NEVER been released as a crime scene, from DAY 1.

We shouldn't really even know about a random glove they found, before any examination or testing. Now it's a whole thing and it shouldn't be, if you ask me. There is going to be tons of random crap outside on the side of the roads. I'm not saying they won't find anything. But this little glove on the side of a road should not be national news. That's a lot of pressure for a piece of trash.

If it was solely for murder, why did they go to the trouble to remove the body. Even Jon Benet was left in the house. JMO

More of a chance of getting away with it. Less evidence. Easier disposal environment. Life insurance confusion. In this case the perp or perps eventually had to leave the home. JB's killer never had to leave.

Yeah, we call it a "kit".

Backpack, with zip ties, duct tape, tarp, plastic sheeting, gag, etc.

Still the question - what would Occam's razor say about the backpack that looks loaded BEFORE going into the house? (ignoring anything about SIL - question is just about the backpack).

Sincere question, btw.
That either they needed a bunch of materials in the house for some reason (that apparently didn’t even include tape that could cover a camera lens), or they needed it to look like what everyone would imagine a ruthless kidnapper would look like.

Snipped: TMZ said it received a new note Wednesday in connection with the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie. The note doesn’t appear to be from the kidnapper, but rather from someone offering information that could lead to the kidnapper
“If they want the name of the individual involved, then I want 1 Bitcoin to the following wallet,” the note reads, according to TMZ, which forwarded the note to the FBI. “Time is more than relevant.
Snipped: One bitcoin is currently worth about $66,000

Not sure if this was mentioned, I tried to look back and didn't see anything.
