BBM. Yes this is my question as well. Can random B&E robbers pivot to a $6 million dollar kidnapping?

Routine small time robbers don't usually want to murder or kidnap people. They want quick cash or valuable items.

I suppose it is possible. They go into an older woman's house. Think they can grab some quick cash/items and exit. But it all goes sideways fast and they panic. Spur of the moment decision to take the body with them to protect themselves. Then at some point they decide to try for a big payout ransom. Maybe one of them has the necessary tech skills or they have a friend or relative who does.

Normally not I would say, but considering the celebrity status of SG and her $$$$, maybe so.

I will be the first to admit I have no freaking idea about this case it is so bizarre to me. I usually make a quick read on a case, but not here. I'm sure there is quite a bit of information that LE hasn't released. I wonder if Nancy called anyone after she was dropped off at home?

My main hope is somehow Nancy is still alive and reunited with her family, even if the odds of that happening lower each day.

One detail that's stuck out to me is that the backpack worn by the suspect in the Nest cam footage seems full and rigid. You can see it on the FBI video around the 15s mark. It's not empty, like they're expecting to break into a house and stuff it full of stolen items. It's already full. And to me, that means there's a reason/purpose that falls out of the scope of b&e.

Maybe the purpose of disconnecting the door cam was to remove it because the perp(s) planned to bring their vehicle up to the driveway to bring Nancy out that way and they didn't want the camera to capture their vehicle.

Good thinking! This actually seems like a pretty solid hypothesis to me. It seems pretty likely she was taken by car, causing the trail of blood drops to end abruptly. And I think we've all followed cases where identifying the perp's vehicle blew the case wide open, so keeping the car hidden makes sense.

I see their "experience" as not with breaking into homes, but more as familiarity with the home. It's a giant leap from breaking into a home for a robbery and kidnapping an elderly lady.

Agreed. If it was a burglary gone wrong, why was nothing burglarized? Unless there are stolen items we don't know about, the only thing that seems to be missing is Nancy. Suggests to me that the intent was to make her disappear, either alive or deceased. I don't think this was spontaneous or the result of a change in plans.

Unlikely to be a routine B&E because, as seen in the video, the person’s backpack was already full when they approached the porch. Burglars don’t typically arrive to steal with their backpack already full. IMO.

I think it is a Nest because it appears to be on the same system (no video, no subscription), just like the first.

There are 2 security cameras on the Casita shown in the attached drone footage. They are both White, Solar (small solar panel mounted on roof, camera mounted on brick). They are very cylindrical in shape and magnetically attached to bracket as Agent quickly removed one and then put it back at one point). You can see the camera facing the grass courtyard at the 51:45 mark mounted just about left side of sliding door. The other camera faces the driveway area in front of (perpendicular) to garage door. It is seen at the 5 second mark in video. It is mounted above sliding door in the upper right-hand corner on the brick with the panel mounted on the roof. The video shows agent removing the courtyard camera, I would think they removed the driveway camera as well, hard to miss.

If any footage from these is recoverable, it would show back courtyard and driveway area near garage. This could be fantastic for the case.

Do we know if the pics and video released by the FBI are in fact the 2:12 “software detects person on camera” pics? Or are they from before the doorbell was disconnected? The camera he is trying to cover with the lantana is the Nest camera, right? Or is it a Ring doorbell? Did she have both?

There was no Ring camera AFAIK, Nest is the only type reported. The images and video is from the front door doorbell cam (Nest) and we think it was captured shortly before it was disconnected at 1:47am.
The 2:12 timestamp is a notification, not a video (we assume from a different camera). If they have since recovered a video, it has not been made public.

It seems like they’ll need a confession or similar in hopes someone takes a deal before it goes to trial.

Even in that case, not sure it would stand up to an appeal.

I know nothing at all about how these agencies operate, but it would be surprising to me if APS showed up at the scene of a suspected crime, where the sole occupant of the home was missing, and left a business card rather than going through police to contact the family. But I do know that cooperation and communication between various agencies can be, uh, challenging. And maybe the person just was out of the loop or had their wires crossed. Just surprises me. IMO

I have worked with these agencies my entire working career, and in fact was aligned with one of them early on. I don't know this particular agency or the social workers there of course. But I could see one of the APS workers hearing that an elderly woman has possibly wandered off. They stop at the home to make a home visit or leave material. Perhaps someone young, ambitious, wanting the productivity numbers.

I wish they would have searched the area around where the gloves were found. Just to see if there was any signs that they went away from the road. JMO

Coyotes in this area generally run away from people. They are usually hunting small rabbits, rodents, stray pets. Personally, I have encountered Coyotes in Tucson, Las Vegas, they don't attack or even confront humans.

Agree. I’m in the outer Dallas area and have coyotes around my home frequently. They aren’t there for me — it’s the “buffet” of goats and chickens next door. They usually run from humans here.

Maybe by the time he came into full view of the Nest camera he had already circled the house once and removed any cameras on the hous and put them in the back pack. We know he took them and guess he needed a place to put them. IMO
