AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

This picture actually makes me so sad. That tent should have been up since day 1. Aside from protecting the scene, it helps communicate a back off to media and lookers. Unless their goal was really to see if any suspect returned to the scene, what was the harm of treating it like a crime scene while the case is so ongoing? No one else lives in the house. No one else needs to get personal belongings or needs a place to sleep. I don't know enough about preserving crime scenes, but when you have a victim still missing, I just don't understand what the rush to turn the house back over almost immediately was.
That crime scene on that porch is contaminated from so many people walking up there, they're gonna have to go through all the DNA from everybody's shoes that walked up there. This is really shoddy.Work should have been done right when they found that blood.

The tent is hopefully to be able to place evidence markers, block the bright sunlight from making shadows for the photos of the markers of new evidence gleaned from the video which maybe contained more of the attacker’s activities than what we have seen; like how NG’s blood got on the front entry area.

all imo

I think it’s possible they have video of something the person did on the porch and want to swab or gather that spot.

Good thinking. That would be awesome if he dropped his bite camera out of his mouth onto the porch somewhere.

Edited: Never mind I didn't know how those things worked until I just Googled it.

Agreed! Also, I’ve been trying to find the exact photo and I believe TMZ deleted it or swapped it out with something else….but on the day that the video footage of Nancy’s kidnapper at her front door was released, they posted a still shot of what looked like the kidnapper with his arm around Nancy. I remember it looked like she was wearing a robe.

I’ve been scouring Google and the TMZ site to find it, but I can’t. I just remember that when you went to the homepage and looked at the original announcement of the video of the kidnapper, there were two still screenshot side-by-side, and the one on the right was the one that looked like Nancy from an side view/slight aerial view.
I think that was just a banner or ad not actual footage.

Going to make a guess here based on those tiles being 12"x12". He's 5'10"- 6'1". Closer to 5'10" IMO.

Going off of:
Door slab width: approximately 36 inches
Door height: approximately 80 inches (6’8”)
Full door opening including sidelights: approximately 60–66 inches (5–5.5 feet)
Arch peak height: approximately 84–90 inches (7–7.5 feet)
Porch tile size: approximately 12” × 12
Porch depth (front to back): approximately 26–30 inches (about 2–2.5 feet)
Concrete sidewalk width: approximately 3.5–4 feet
Estimated individual height: approximately 5’10” to 6’1”
appreciate the photogrammetry effort, but this is a distorted image we're working with. you can see how distorted by looking at how curved the grid of tiles appears. makes it hard to accurately judge height without a carefully calibrated nonlinear mapping. ... which LE may be working on, right now.

I also think it’s strange they had enough for warrants, sending SWAT, etc and released him after a couple hours? Even if he had an airtight alibi, you think they’d want to check it. I imagine that would take a bit of time.

I saw someone else suggest maybe they let him go to see if he would lead them to more evidence? Maybe. Or maybe his role was smaller than others and he quickly agreed to be a CI? Seems far fetched but I really can’t figure out why they would release him so quickly.
From what I understand, a person can only be held for questioning for a short time without grounds for arrest unless there are extenuating circumstances. I believe they stopped this guy because they thought he was about to cross the boarder, not because they had some basis for arrest.
Next level, in AZ a person can only be held under arrest without charges for 48 hrs.

Can they have a motion detector flood light? Maybe several along a driveway with a larger one on the porch. JMO
Yes. We had that.

You aren't accounting for the perspective angle.

So the tent was up for like, twenty minutes…?

I think the FBI arranged to get the camera images, because of the giant media coverage of this case. Not normally available, to a “regular” victims family.

JMO
IMO it's because of the circumstances surrounding the case and not necessarily due to media coverage.

The porch stoop should have been tested when the blood was first seen. It's sad it's taken this long .

There was possibly inside the home more directed investigations of evidence that made the front porch seem not as crucial as say the back sliders or any evidence of the initial attack area until the footage was obtained of the attacker’s movements in the front.

Reporting of the blood in front being tested previously:

NEW: Blood droplets were discovered on the porch of Nancy Guthrie’s home, according to law enforcement.

The blood trail went from the front entrance of the home to the edge of the driveway, Fox News Digital learned.

Authorities have confirmed the blood belongs to Guthrie.

The slouchy lazy demeanor of the perp on cam reminds me of a teenager being told to do something and he is doing the bare minimum. Probably too lazy to remove backpack to put tape over the camera. when he grabs the plant he looks to his left to see if anyone is watching. Maybe he realized how dumb that was and didn’t want the accomplices noticing. He also touched his gun to make sure it didn’t fall out after he bent over. I bet he dropped it multiple times in the past and wears it in the front so he does not lose it.
To paraphrase Emily D. Baker (YouTuber), "What in the Stormtrooper hell is going on with that gun?"

Unfortunately alot of that footage/data will be recorded over in most cases

...UNLESS camera system being used is cloud based and not a DVR/SD card type of recording...

Wasn't it stated that CP was released for "insufficient evidence"?
