I respect your knowledge, but I believe this is a case of the news mixing up stories. If I search on "NBC News: The man seen in the video below has been cleared of being involved in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie by investigators, according to two officials who have been briefed on the matter" it brings up the man detained after stopped in Rio Rico. MOO
The video referenced in the comment is included right there and shows the man with multiple backpacks.

I was very skeptical at first, but I'm starting to open up to the possibility that SG could have been the main target somehow:

The worst thing to ever happen to Savannah Guthrie, it seems, is the best thing to ever happen to her colleagues at NBC.

Whispers already abound among these morning show vipers — who may be seeding an outcome they'd welcome — that Savannah may never come back to the Today show. On-air talent is already taking meetings with execs, jockeying for Savannah's chair, to take over her position as star of the show.
I’ve thought this from the first or second day. I just don’t necessarily think it’s a colleague.

I feel like the story of the day is investigation dysfunction, and alleged issues with the sheriff. This morning, we had this:

And then it lead to this:

These two things are similar but don't really seem like the same gripe. Did frustration among certain parties in the investigation just start boiling over today, so they began feeding stories to the media to increase pressure? No idea, it just seems interesting that it's suddenly a bit of a theme today... Not intending to suggest that the stories are or aren't true, the frustrations are or aren't valid, etc. Just commenting on the shift in reporting. MOO

As to the tent in order to simulate the same lighting conditions, did they have time to conduct the tests using the actual same lighting? I believe they were able to deduce what time lantana man was filmed at the front door. Did they use the tent because they didn’t want to wait until nighttime, or pay overtime? I guess they know what they are doing, but it doesn’t seem like a tent can simulate the middle of the night. I recently had an instance where I needed to know what a place would look like on film at a specific time in the future. I researched sunset times for the date, planned accordingly and visited the site at what would be the same lighting conditions on that future day. Weather plays a role, but still…

Because she knows them. JMO
They weren't going to risk her reporting them. Unfortunately, I don't believe she was alive for long after they got inside.
IMO, It's probably a combination of egos and stupidity. Each side wants full control, instead of working together they would rather hurt the investigation.
Someone upthread mentioned SG knowing lots of people in power. Hopefully, she'll get this nutty Sheriff taken off the force at some point. If it were my mother missing, I'd be angrier than a hornet's nest at this man's incredulity.

Watch the TMZ video.

Wouldn't it be better from a research perspective to use actual night time to replicate night time?
Who would have actually thought of that (LOL)?

Yes the video is of the man with the 2 backpacks, but I did not see anything that said he was checked, or questioned, or cleared. Can you post this actual statement that he was cleared. MOO

I don’t even understand what he’s alluding to. It’s weirdly worded for me.
Traffic cameras are live view only. Pima has cameras that record but plates seem to be hit or miss.

I would think that unless the glove (from NG's house) was found before the crime scene was released back to the family (too soon imo) by the Sheriff, a good defense attorney would try to exclude any glove DNA evidence, saying the scene was contaminated by media, family, delivery people, etc.

How clearly was the getaway car recorded? Color? Size, sedan, etc.

I’m sure more info will come out on this.

Maybe a residential or business nearby has better views.

JMO
Wait, do they know what the car looked like?

  • #25,637
I would imagine the why is because there were no steps there as opposed to the ones leading to the front door.
Also, the many locks to unlock at the front door. Probably two different keys for the 2 doors.

Law enforcement officials have cleared a man who was seen near the gate of a Tucson home in a security video from the night Guthrie disappeared, according to two officials briefed on the matter.

The video, which was shared on the Neighborhood app and circulated online, shows a man in a gray hooded top, jeans and two backpacks near the gate of a home at 1:52 a.m. That home is 4.2 miles from Guthrie's home.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said it is aware of the video and is looking at all investigative leads. It did not say it's in any way connected to the Guthrie case.

Does anyone know if it's common for these cameras to not record? I assumed they'd at least keep a small amount of recording, but I really have no idea. Surprising to me that so many of these don't record at all. JMO.
There's Flock cams in most larger cities that record everything to the point people complain about the civil liberty aspect of it. I would say it's not common.

Between non working cameras, the night low-light ordinance, and Nanos fumbling his way, it's like a ad for criminals to come to Tucson. Yeesh.
