It's really unbelievable that, with all the DNA and other technology of today (phones, cameras, etc), this hasn't been solved.

Either the perp did an extremely good job with leaving no DNA or tech traces or was extremely lucky. All it takes is one inadvertent mistake or getting caught on a random gas station camera or doorbell camera and the case can be blown wide open. Yet, nothing. We have video staring straight into the perp's eyes and still can't find him. Crazy.
DNA was left in the house but it's not matched to anybody, yet.

A detective was on tv the other day and he said sometimes we can’t apply logic to the things criminals do.

This whole crime defies logic.
that's because most of them are stupid which is why they get caught

I have a sincere question to ask @OldCop and @MassGuy, everyone else please feel free to respond too - If LE/FBI knows for a fact that a potential person (SIL) has been cleared by them, why not publicly announce it? Besides them having a reason why he hasn’t been cleared, would there be another reason why they wouldn’t share it? If so, what would the reason(s) be? TIA
Why let the real perp know that and I once that starts are you going to address each rumor? They have bigger fish to fry.

After years of lurking, this is my first post. And it was going to be the post above! I agree completely. What’s more, and I don’t usually like over-parsing words, but the use of “approximately” as referenced in the above post and news story for entry at 9:48 is followed by what appears to be a more definitive 9:50. Regardless, even if only entry was approximate, it opens up a window of time beyond two minutes. MOO
Thank you for posting!

the more time goes by, I'm thinking this was a random home invasion/murder by a sole actor and not related to SG. i think that's the reason it's been so hard to crack the case despite basically unlimited resources.

Mental health professionals have spent their entire careers trying to figure out why people do what they do. And their thought processes. Most human behavior is goal directed even if does not make sense to others, it makes some sort of sense to the person doing the behavior.

Well of course the detective should not be applying his logic to criminal behavior logic.

LE/FBI have told us that they haven't cleared anybody. The potential suspects that they have interviewed and for whom they had search warrants are still possible suspects and may indeed have been involved in this crime. JMO

I think he didn’t want to answer the question and I think it’s very interesting that 14 odd days in he still won’t say the family has been cleared.

I do honestly hope they aren’t involved though for the rest of the family’s sake

Does anyone (maybe someone local) know if this is his standard method of dealing with crimes? Does he normally not clear anyone until a crime is solved? Or is it specific to this situation?

Surprised they wouldn’t run preliminary results and then also the final results just to get a potential head start on investigation.
They have to follow the protocol and it's not allowed for them to run preliminary results.

A federal warrant confirms federal jurisdiction of a case and subsequent federal administration/facilitation of that case in which the warrant was issued. The Sheriff himself offered that the warrant was regarding the Guthrie kidnapping case.

If federal jurisdiction is asserted and confirmed, as it was here with a federal warrant, then by definition it supersedes any state agency's authority on the same or similar matter. A statement or media declaration isn't necessary to defend my assertion - any high school civics book will do.

Does that mean they aren't working together in much the same fashion? No. It just means they've switched roles, and that state and local authorities are now supporting federal authorities on the evolving nature of this case. If a federal judge issued a warrant and they were looking for Nancy Guthrie, her kidnappers, or signs of her within the execution of that warrant, then federal kidnapping laws have now been deemed germane, have now been applied, and have now assumed jurisdiction in this case.

Can the case go back to a state case? Sure, if the feds ultimately determine that the kidnapping doesn't contain the requisite elements that makes it a federal crime. But as of now they clearly do believe that it does and they have compelling evidence of such, as the federal judge who signed the federal warrant confirmed.

Further, the Sheriff's overnight scheduled press conference being snuffed "at the request of the FBI" pretty much as soon as it was announced is another strong indicator of who is now leading this investigation.

JMO.
According to this, when assisting local police, the FBI still gets their own federal warrants to make sure what they do passes the 44th amendment test and meets federal court standards.

I know we can debate the garage door until the end of time, but both the SO and FBI believe Nancy made it home and was abducted from inside her home. If they thought the scene was staged or had evidence SIL/AG were lying they probably would've been taken into custody by now.

If we factor in all the elements that would have to go perfectly right for AG/SIL to pull this off, they'd have to: murder Nancy, sanitize the crime scene, stage a return home, stage a crime scene at Nancy's, hide the body, create a fake intruder and convincingly lie their way through multiple police interviews. That is a lot of activity for two middle-aged people with no criminal background. It just doesn't seem plausible. MOO.

I think there are so many facets that could be, the simplest answer might be true. I have a feeling all the ransom emails sent to TMZ were fake. And after the first day, the sheriff called the scene a crime scene. I don't think it ever was a kidnapping. Now the deeper you delve into politics, and rabbit holes, one can think a million scenarios.

The Sheriff is chatty. He gets himself into trouble when he is not concise, and his own opinion gets mixed into the facts of the case. He says there will be no updates, and then gets back out there on camera talking about the case. I take everything he says with less than a grain of salt.

My own thoughts on what happened keep changing, and there is not much information out there for anyone to draw a conclusion. I think there was more than one bad person at Nancy’s house, and I don’t believe the purpose was kidnaping for ransom. I think something may have gone wrong, and Nancy was removed from her home because the bad peoples’ intent did not go according to plan. I think there may have been a pivot, and everything went to sh*t after that.
Yes, IMO, there are two profiles LE may have:

1. A delusional stalker of SG's took the life of NG to get SG's attention they deeply crave, as opined by OPs here. By taking NG's body and disposing it in the desert or mountains, NG's anguish is in their control. They prolong that as long as possible for pleasure. The ransom escapades get them NG's direct attention, again, for pleasure.

2. Perp(s) who invaded NG's home as theives, unexpectedly end up with a deceased 84 year old woman. If she was on anti-coagulents or blood thinners as her bruised and bandaged arm suggest, NG could have bled out internally from injuries sustained during a struggle (i.e. aspirated blood on the front porch). In their warped, small, sociopathic mind(s) they took NG's body to dispose of it in the desert or mountains. And then they got the idea to ask for ransom for an easy cash (or bitcoin) windfall. But with no proof of life, there is no payout.

Just my morning speculation. IMO. 🤔

And sharp as tack people don’t say “Hey, is that drugs?!” if they happen to see a trunk filled with drug bricks open in the middle of the day.
I surely hope I’m wrong, just brainstorming why she is gone.

So FBI agents essentially littered by throwing used gloves on the ground while searching? Is that what Sheriff Nanos is implying?
Hard to believe, but I guessed that also.

I believe from pictures in the media that Nancys car was in the garage (until at least the following Thursday). I believe posters identified NGs car as a Suburu. IIRC NGs car was placed to the right of the garage as you look at it. I’ll be back with links and pics.

Here’s a screenshot from a video on BE’s X account where you can see where the door to enter her house is through the garage.

I don't think this was committed by just one person. I am not sure a solitary, social misfit could have organised other people to work with him.
Even a social misfit talking about a $6 million ransom might get some attention and interest.

The gloves found approximately 2 miles from the Guthrie residence in a field near the side of the road were packaged up by PCOS and sent overnight on 2/12 and they arrived at their private lab in Florida on 2/13. The FBI received preliminary results yesterday on 2/14 and are awaiting quality control and official confirmation today before putting unknown male profile into CoDIS, the national database unique to the bureau. This process typically takes 24 hours from when the bureau receives DNA. Investigators collected approximately 16 gloves in various areas near the house. Most of them were searchers’s gloves that they discarded in various areas when they searched the vicinity. The one with the DNA profile recovered is different and appears to match the gloves of the subject in the surveillance video. The FBI has and will continue to provide assistance on whatever timeline is provided to us.

Pretty reckless for a "searcher" to discard a glove, for crying out loud! JMO

Lots of outside-the-box theories. May as well think about this one. I do question how many people in the community knew NG was related to SG. I also wonder if NG knew persons that neither AG nor SG knew about. My husband and I are older, and our sons don't know all our friends/acquaintances, despite living very close. They are wrapped up in their lives and raising our grandkids.

Since LE took NG's car, I imagine they are just making sure they are thorough in this investigation. That being said, is there anything in particular that you all think they might be looking for in NG's car? We've heard nothing about her car being involved in the crime. While LE impounding NG's care might be just LE covering all of their bases, it could also suggest that they are investigating if NG's car was involved in this crime. JMO
