TMZ should really be saying, 'we aren't middle men, speak to the FBI'. That is the smart thing to do. The 'kind' thing to do is to pass any information that they may have to the FBI, if it leads to an arrest they get the $100,000 reward.

I noticed this just now. Look at his droopy upper eyelids. They look to be almost covering his upper lashes. I thought he was quite young at first till I noticed this.

Only my guess, but I’m guessing they had a theory and things are starting to comeback from labs and click in place. I’m hoping today will be some action and resolution.

That's why we discussed him having on two masks. I believe this is a young man.

Do many layers of clothing keep a stun gun from penetrating?

I think he’s wearing another mask under the balaclava.

I’ve wondered about another mask too, but it’s his mouth that looks odd to me (what little we see of it). Yet he held that little light in his mouth. I can’t imagine doing that with a mask.

A lot of irons in the fire now and I'm very much praying for a big break in the case soon from one of the following or something else:

- Will the glove DNA match any other samples?
- Will DNA found inside Nancy's house match other samples?
- Will more footage from Nancy's cameras be recovered?
- Will any useful footage come from the roof camera?
- Will any tips prove helpful?
- Will progress be made on identification of the ransom requester(s)?
- Will anything come from the Walmart clothing/backpack research?
- Will any traffic cam footage prove helpful?
- Will any neighbors provide helpful video footage?
- Will anything helpful come from vehicles detained recently?
- Anything helpful from the signal sniffer?

So many possibilities..Please, LE, find that one missing clue. MOO

This is a state crime. How would the DOJ request max penalty.

A federal warrant was issued the other day for the latest SWAT raid. A federal judge can only issue a federal warrant for suspected violations of federal law. It also suggests that federal law enforcement believes that this crime contains at least some of the elements that makes it a federal crime. Kidnapping, for example, is a state crime unless or until it can be demonstrated that it either involves interstate commerce and/or crosses state/national boundaries.

If, for example, the FBI through the course of their investigation found compelling evidence that the ransom demand likely came from the same person or persons that committed this crime, then that would meet federal elements to make a kidnapping charge a federal charge since that demand contained an email IP address that probably bounced all over the world, and a demand for a transnational digital currency to be deposited into an account that likely will be sourced and accessed from outside the US.

IMO many people wouldn't have thought of using the stem of a plant to get the nest cam off the door. This lantana guy is calm, casual, not stressed and, in this case, good at quickly solving a practical problem. Still curious how his actions and demeanor could be seemingly so relaxed and casual in the midst of what was taking place inside the house. JMO
I suspect that the Perp is a psychopath based on willingness to engage in antisocial activities combined with how calm and composed his demeanour is (based on body language) particularly when faced with a stressful situation that could lead to their identification (the unexpected nest camera). Normally, a person would panic or at least display body language indicative of uncertainty and stress when faced with an unexpected and alarming situation.

If this is the case and the Perp is a psychopath, then SG's appeals will fall on deaf ears as the Perp will not feel empathy or compassion in response to her pleas. He may instead derive some form of gratification from viewing her discomfort and the knowledge that he still maintains "control" over the family through his "possession" of NG.

The best negotiating tactic when dealing with a psychopathic abductor/hostage taker is to focus on communicating directly with the Perp and provide an "off ramp" which I notice that SG did in the latest video appeal.

I won't say what else I suspect about the Perp's psychological profile based on his body language from the nest camera and activities at NG's residence, suffice to say that I hope i'm wrong.

All MOO.

There seems to be something in this but no reporting by reputable sources that I’ve seen.
There’s also some verifiably insane reporting :-) But I agree that things do look promising and if they pan out, they help explain the searches, etc. We’ll know soon, I hope. I was surprised to see everyone released after those last searches but perhaps the right things are happening behind the scenes.

So if they literally asked for cash in a briefcase, it’d be a state crime?

I think? the weird mouth might be part of the mask.

I must be blind as a bat. I have looked everywhere, including at every post in the media, maps, timelin threat for this case and have yet to fine a list of approved sources.

A reading of these rules might help. I don't believe there is a list of approved or unapproved sources.

Websleuths is fact based. Rumors and conspiracy theories are not allowed. Do not link to them and do not mention them.

AI is currently not an approved source at Websleuths due to its known inaccuracies.

Information stated as fact must be supported by a link to a mainstream media or law enforcement source (or other WS approved source) to substantiate the fact

Random blogs and podcasts are not allowed without prior approval by a Mod or Admin.

When discussing video content, a link must be provided to the source and also include an approximate timestamp so that other members and Websleuths staff don't have to wade through hours of content to find what is being discussed.

If you aren't sure a source is approved, please jump off any post with the Report feature to ask before posting. Don't post "Mods please delete if not allowed".

Agree! If you are cleared, that should not have to be 'backed up' by locating a solid suspect elsewhere.
For the Sheriff to be able to clear the family, the Sheriff may believe that they have identified their suspects through DNA that places them at the crime scene, vehicles, cell phones etc.

All just my opinion but it seems that the only way he can clear the family is to be sure, based on DNA at the crime scene and other evidence, that they know who the suspects are.

I think this is quite possible. But why would the kidnapper give this kind of direction?
Because he can! He has SG , the object of his twisted affection, exactly where he wants her. He is making her submissive. jmo

Investigators working on the disappearance of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother are consulting with Walmart management to develop leads because a backpack the suspect was wearing is sold exclusively at the stores, the Pima County, Arizona, sheriff said Monday

Pima Count Sheriff Chris Nanos said in a text message to The Associated Press on Monday that the 25-liter “Ozark Trail Hiker Pack” backpack was the only clothing item that has been “definitively identified.”

“This backpack is exclusive to Walmart and we are working with Walmart management to develop further leads,” Nanos said.

The suspect’s clothing “may have been purchased from Walmart but is not exclusively available at Walmart,” the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement Monday. “This remains a possibility only.”

Detectives hunting for Nancy Guthrie have been handed their most “promising” lead yet, a former top cop told The Post — after Walmart handed over purchase records that could finally help crack the case.

Investigators are hoping to track down more information about the backpack and gun holster Guthrie’s alleged kidnapper was seen wearing in doorbell camera footage, both sold at Walmart.

“The backpack and the holster are both very promising leads,” Betsy Brantner Smith of the National Police Association told The Post, speaking from Pima County where she lives, after retiring in 2009 as a detective in Naperville, Ill.
