Has LE said the ransom notes were ABSOLUTELY genuine? Having a hard time believing the note is real without the kidnappers offering some proof of life.

They haven’t anything definitive about whether it’s real. It offered two details about the crime scene. One of them wouldn’t have been known to outsiders (location of Apple Watch). The other (rear floodlights “destroyed’) may not have been, either. But no proof of life that we know of. (Source: Levin talking to Cuomo on Newsnation.)

My guess is that it was sent by the perpetrator(s). Can think of a few explanations for the absence of proof of life.

Wouldn’t he need to take it out of his mouth to talk? There would be salvia on his face and gloves, he had to have left some trace in the house. Since LE hasn’t been able to identify the DNA yet, is it most likely he doesn’t have a criminal record?

I had a keyring light like this but didn’t experiment with putting it in my mouth and talking ;-)

I think he’d have been able to talk and keep the light in his mouth behind a mesh mask, which would have minimised saliva drips.

It’s possible that he didn’t need to say much. He had a gun and could just have bundled her out of there using gestures and short phrases, removing the mask(s) and light only after reaching the car.

Just catching up here and wanted to add two random things:

1. I have a friend in the jewelry industry who has attended the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show for numerous years. She said that items get stolen from the show ALL the time and that it's kind of free-for-all. In my personal opinion, if someone wanted gems, they could hit the show and steal there. Check out the videos of the show this year - people have backpacks, huge purses, etc. - and the show is HUGE size-wise. IMO, no need to rob NG's house (or any other house) for gems.

2. Has LE ever said one way or another that this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public? Personally, I feel feel this was likely a targeted act, but if I am wrong and the individual(s) responsible like to prey on the elderly, I'd hope LE would issue some kind of blanket statement to the general public. Maybe that's me asking too much.

This is the way I've been leaning with the ransom notes, that it was essentially just an extortion attempt from someone with a little bit of inside knowledge

Obviously without having the actual contents of the notes we have no idea just how detailed the information given was but it just never exactly felt like LE were treating them as 100% real

Possible, or possibly from someone who was told details of the investigation by the family or LE. The first ransom notes were received by KGUN9 and KOLD on Monday evening, so only the day after the abduction – not that long. The following day, TMZ got the same note.

My initial thought was that the note was sent after the perp drove some distance from Tucson, but I'm not sure what to think.

I think if they got a ping using the sniffer, they would very quickly be able to pinpoint it by reducing the range.

Let’s say they got a ping with the range being 1000 ft (it would be an approximate circle with 1000 ft radius) then reduce the signal boost by for example 100 ft and see if the ping drops, if it does then we can go with the theory that the device is in that outer ring of the circle, you can then reduce the range right down and fly around the perimeter of that circle until you get a ping.

Hope this makes sense, I am not an expert by any means, this is just my understanding on what I have read about how it works.

While I do not have a complete understanding of how the pacemaker sniffer functions, doesn’t it pickup ALL pacemakers in a given area? There are many, many people with pacemakers these days (not just the elderly).
It would see that if a helicopter flew over a housing development it would pickup many, many signals. Making it difficult to evaluate all of the residents in the neighborhood.
In my opinion the sniffer would be more effective when utilized in an area where a body may lie in the desert, park, open lots etc.

I don't know of anything they've said one way or the other, and that seems significant. My take (no evidence!) is that if they felt there was a broader threat, they'd have said something. I'm reminded of McKee murdering the Tepes – LE said nothing about a broader threat, believing early on that it was targeted. I agree it was likely targeted.

Agreed with your point about the gem show. It seems unlikely, though I don't know what to rule out, based on the little we know and the bizarreness of this case.

They assumed based on what they saw, but it's still technically a missing persons case to this date.

Right. Until they have significant reason to believe NG is the victim of a homicide, it will remain a missing persons case. So clearly (MOO) there was not enough blood evidence inside the home to reasonably indicate NG would be deceased. It's hard to have a "no body" homicide case & if this were to switch to homicide, I'd be extremely curious about the evidence that almost certainly would have to be brand new/freshly discovered.

Not necessarily someone investigating inside the house but someone close enough to hear rumours about the state of the crime scene (either through family or LE grapevine). There was a poster here a few days ago who said they were from a Tucson neighbourhood where a lot of LE live, and posted a theory based on the rumours circulating there (the post was deleted). By Monday when the notes were sent rumours were probably flying wildly, and this one might have happened to be true (since we heard from media that LE appeared to be taking the notes seriously, at least initially). So the first ransom note(s) could have been from someone who heard those rumours, either in real life or through social media, had enough knowledge to protect themselves from being caught easily, and took a chance.

No - that's the house to the south on the same side. The videos that came out show it to be the house across the street but a little south.

Yes, those tiny keyring lights work very well for short distances. I used to have one and loved it. You can see the perp flash it on when he approaches the porch step, to make sure he doesn’t trip. In the pitch dark, it’s enough for that. He also uses it when dealing with the Nest doorbell cam.

A head torch can be used for hiking and walks on unlit roads. I’ve used mine for that. This is different. It’s a tiny thing that might illuminate a car door or front door to make key insertion easier.

In the video, the light seems to be offset, coming from the side of the mouth. Also, it looks like we see teeth, which may be part of a mesh mask. Hard to say. But we don’t see a typical flashlight or bite light (like the Illumibite) protruding from the mouth.

So you can only see something right in front of you. The up side is that it does not throw off enough light to be detected from afar, but the down side is you cannot see any distance.

Doesn't sound like a robber could use it to quickly examine a large house for valuables? Or for someone quickly hunting where victims are located in the house?
A flashlight or head light would be better.

So perhaps this is not a robbery and perp knows where NG is located in the home.

It sounds like he did not turn the power off, so perhaps he turned the lights on when he got inside. Which is risky. Neighbors might notice lights going on in the middle of the night. Of course lantana man could just be the outside look out. Never went into the house

So we might not even be talking about a regular bite light. Just a keyring light.
And we see it off kilter from his teeth. We don't know if the real teeth or fake teeth.
