Appears that the suspect killed the mother and father as well as the 2 deputies before committing suicide.

The Watauga County sheriff also said a Boone police officer who was helping in the response during the standoff was shot in the head but a helmet saved their life.

This is so sad. A deputy walks up to a door thinking he is checking to see if someone is okay - a welfare check. They happen every day all over the country.
He is ambushed and killed. Another deputy is also shot and killed along with the parents of the shooter who later turned the gun on himself. Such a senseless loss of life.
