I could be all wrong, but I get the feeling this guy feels screwed if he talks and screwed if he doesn't. He's afraid to snitch, he's a dead man if he does?

He sure seems to says he lied to the police a lot.

Very, very disrepectful to the Court and the jury. At least his mom dressed nicely. And Shanita Love prolly wore her best sweater (seriously).

This is a not-nice thing to say, but it's a culture most of us just don't understand or know much about. How fortunate we are -- it could have been anyone of us -- and it would be very tuff to get out.

At one time, both Atwater & Lovette went to Jordan High School -- one of the best public schools in the state -- students from the best neighborhoods in Durham, for the most part -- and they've got 'em. Duke Medical docs, etc., lotsa bucks, if they're not in the private school in that area. Anyway, both Atwater & Lovette dropped out. Now they're both in prison for life. And Lovette grew up with two parents who had good jobs, in a middle-class neighborhood, and he & his father were close. He was the only child. His dad died when LAL was about 12, and LAL started getting in trouble. He had around 16 felonies before he was 16 y/o. This was testified during LAL's second appeal for removal of LWOP, which was denied. I'll find the link. Hang on.

Oh, I'm sure he has learned that the police are not your friends. Note the deference (seemingly sincere, IMO), Philip displayed to the defense attorney.

I suspect he talked that first day, telling the truth. Then perhaps he was threatened or realized he was duped and/or going to end up dead if he cooperated with LE, thus the retraction. I couldn't help notice his angst when they first started to play the interview. He was fidgety shaky.
