This testimony of S. Love reminds me (just the mood I'm in today, I guess) of a great scene in "Planes, Trains & Automobiles." It's got only one word of profanity, but it's used liberally. It's what I'd like to see LAL see after S.Love gets off the stand. Lotsa bad words, watch with no children in the room.

We need a little laff today, so watch if you wanna. About 3 minutes.

Dornfried caught TT once that I noticed. She said "they told me to sign it." He jumped back at her with, "oh, so you DO remember...!!!" A good gotcha.

TT's murdered brother had previously given testimony about Atwater, but his murder was apparently not related to that. And her brother Philip remains at risk for arrest also, I presume, since he was also implicated in Mahato's murder.

What a world. This is all very eye-opening to me..

Poor Mahato. Just a brainiac completing his PhD, minding his own business, and he turns into the victim of some ill-willed young men looking for their night's entertainment. "Let's go steal a car, rob and kill someone..." Ugh.

Yes, indeed. It's like when I was that age, someone would say, "Let's go get a hamburger & a shake." Really. "Eye-opening" is the perfect description, Boodles. Oh, we are so, so fortunate.

Every time I hear the defendant got robbed I can't help giggling with joy. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy!

I would love to believe it but I don't -- he had to account for "losing" the gun -- maybe it wasn't his.... Just my blush on it upon hearing it. IDK. Could be. Like you, it's a great turn-around of luck. But he's in lotsa bad mojo now, folks. <smile>

Shanita is testifying.

I have to agree with Chelly on the NC courts, I love a good trial from here. They are very reliable and consistent, respectful to the attorneys and the judges. imo

We do like manners (almost to a fault) down here. Still "Yes, Ma'am" and "Yes, Sir" all all that. It's hot down here and we try to move (and talwk real slo-o-o-ow). Words like "mommick" or "mommicked-up" or "squawed" and such like. But we do have some not-so-good things, too, that we can't seem to shake...

I think defense can cross Shanita?

Yep, here it comes. Bethea-Shields is gonna try & trip her up (my money's on Shanita) and impeach her. Grrrrr.

ETA: She's switching from the 12th to the 20th & back again and again. But Shanita is alert and ready. I think she's telling the truth as best she can remember. She is getting a bit tired, I think. Yesterday, today, and all her testimony in the Carson trial. I think all she wants to do is get beyond that part of her life. I must say a Southern, "Bless her heart."

Yep she is trying really trying! I am not sure she can do it though.

Defense attorney getting aggressive with Shanita, trying to intimidate. Subtly tried to do some character damage, too, IMO.

OT: I can't stand the phrase: "refresh your recollection." Why not say refresh your memory? Just a peeve.. /end

I remember this attorney asking this same witness what she was looking at that she knew the defendant was talking to the other guy in the car.

I can't remember if this was with or outside the jury's presence?

A bit of weirdness for me... Our gdaughter was born in the Duke Regional Hospital in Durham that is a very fine center for birthing. From Raleigh, after we get into Durham (where the Mahato crime was committed), we go several miles down Roxboro St -- the street where the Atwater family & Shanita were living during the murders. I saw the street names of a couple of other streets Shanita mentioned when she was explaining going to Geer St to pick up the repaired car & throwing out the weapons. Just spooked me, yesterday & this morning. Some of those areas, before we got to the hospital, looked a bit neglected and sad to me. "Eye opening" again. Indeed. Mmmpf.

Certainly I have have seen neglected neighborhoods in many places, but this was just too close & too sad. Wimp that I yam.

Talk about beating a dead horse....

If I was a juror, I would have zoned out.

Defense atty not releasing SL. Can attorneys do this to make someone's life miserable?

  • #578
I think Shanita Love did a good job, she held her own! imo

I am not sure how the jury read her, I wish we had someone in the court to give us that feel.

I wish Stormy Ellis had done the direct questioning of Shanita instead of Dornfried. I think she would have been better (and easier to understand) than Dornfried. Oh well it's done for now. Shanita and I are tired...
