My brother and nieces live in Elizabeth City. Everyone is on edge and expecting the worst. The trouble releasing the video and then only being able to view one body cam from far away and that one heavily redacted only throws fuel on the fire, IMO.
I don't see how the Sheriff Department can justify shooting a man in the back, through the back car window.
I don't understand why officials haven't made any further statements. They must have had time to investigate and review the body cam footage to at least be able to say whether or not the officers will be facing charges.

They need to either condemn their actions or give a reason why the shooting was justified. I can't imagine why seven police officers can't arrest one man without killing him. Did they consider the vehicle backing up an immediate threat to their lives? What about before that, when he allegedly had his hands on the wheel when they first started shooting? What happened before that? The public needs more details, and soon. Imo

I really want to know why 7 officers are on admin. leave & 3 were fired; very suspicious. Plus, since when do they shoot people in the back/side of the head?

@dani__battaglia

FBI spokeswoman Shelley Lynch confirmed via email that the FBI has opened a federal civil rights investigation into the shooting of Andrew Brown Jr.

Agents will work closely with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina and the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice to determine whether federal laws were violated," FBI spokesperson Shelley Lynch says, according to The News & Observer's Danielle Battaglia.

Hey everyone,

Websleuths is a true crime discussion forum. It was never intended to solve All The Problems of The World.

Please stick to discussing the actual facts of a case instead of introducing all the peripheral stuff surrounding it (i.e. protests, racial, LE bashing, civil rights, politics, activism, etc). This has become especially important since, unfortunately, these types of cases have increased lately and the same social justice issues are being introduced over and over again into Every Single Thread of this nature.

Websleuths volunteer staff is very limited compared to the number of members and number of active cases and Alerts that we have to deal with every day.

If these threads continue to be a problem for Mods and Admins to manage, they will become Media Only *NO DISCUSSION* threads.

The video was obtained through a FOIA request by FOX8 sister stationWAVY. It is not the deputy body camera video. Officials have yet to release that to the public.

In the city-owned video, Elizabeth City Police Chief Eddie Buffalo provided to WAVY News 10, you can see deputies arriving in the back of a pickup truck on Wednesday, April 21. The city camera is mounted on a utility pole along Brown’s street.

The truck turns toward Brown’s driveway. You can hear deputies yell, “Get your hands up.”

The video begins to glitch at this point and audio drops out for about 20 seconds. This is reportedly when the gunfire is taking place. Buffalo told WAVY News the loud sounds caused the camera to glitch.

What you can’t see is what Brown’s attorneys described after they watched the body camera footage. They said the deputies jumped out and surrounded Brown’s car. At some point, they started shooting. Brown was in his car with his hands on the steering wheel, according to the family. Brown was shot four times in the right arm and then once in the back of the head, a private autopsy released by the family shows.

Disgraceful. Why was all that manpower needed to arrest one man for a victimless crime?

So do the police normally just pack into flatbeds and ride around like that? Doesn't seem safe for them, and seems like an unnecessarily menacing (and unprofessional) look.

I agree. It is like we see in clips of third world countries. And for a drug sale warrant?

People shot to death by U.S. police, by race 2021 | Statista

“Sadly, the trend of fatal police shootings in the United States seems to only be increasing, with a total 213 civilians having been shot, 30 of whom were Black, in the first three months of 2021.”

My eyesight is poor, and I'm on my cell, but does it list the circumstances on each one this year?

Does it state if they were armed with a lethal weapon at the time like a knife, or firearm or other type of weapons?

I'm not familiar with this site, but the last stat I read from the DOJ iirc 9 unarmed AAs were shot, and killed with around 27 white, Hispanic were unarmed when shot.

Out of 335M total population officers shoots, and kills around a thousand on average each year.

We are already in the second quarter.

TIA MM.

Looked more like a gang drive-by shooting to me. I was blown away by what we saw. In a family neighborhood? Maybe I don’t get out much but you’d have thought they were on a military mission. Seeking a terrorist. In Afghanistan.

Andrew Brown Jr. search warrant: Drug deals captured on camera weeks before fatal police shooting

Andrew Brown Jr. – a Black man fatally shot as sheriff's deputies executed a warrant in Elizabeth City, N.C., on April 21 – was described as a drug dealer in the Pasquotank County area and had a criminal rap sheet over 180 pages long and dating back to May 1988, according to a copy of the search warrant and other records obtained by Fox News.
So he deserved to be executed?
