Avantae Deven, who was charged for killing her two adopted children, is scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.

Deven is scheduled for a disposition hearing at 9 a.m. There is a chance the hearing may be rescheduled, or if it happens she may not appear in court at all.

This article is from September but it states that "According to Cumberland County District Attorney Billy West, prosecutors are waiting on the Fayetteville Police Department to turn over investigative files for the case."

Fayetteville mother indicted in deaths of adopted children, Blake and London Deven​

A grand jury has indicted Avantae Deven, the adoptive mother of two children whose partial skeletal remains were found years after they had gone missing in Fayetteville.

Deven is accused of murdering, dismembering, and burning the bodies of both children, identified as Blake Deven and London Deven.

Monday’s indictment marked the first big update in the case in more than a year. The jury indicted Deven on four charges:

• First-degree murder
• Destroying a body/remains concealing an unnatural death
• Intentional child abuse, inflicting serious bodily injury
• Negligent child abuse, inflicting serious bodily injury

Blake and London were two of five unrelated children adopted by Avantae. The Fayetteville Police Department previously told CBS 17 those children were exposed to “extreme forms of torture, abuse and neglect."

County investigators believe Blake and London starved to death.

Amen. About time. So glad to see movement on this case. Not sure why it took so long to indict but very glad it finally happened

Relevant documents in this case appear to be sealed, but Avantae Deven's court records show warrants that were returned. The descriptions for them vary but say the properties where Deven lived were searched and a phone and two laptops she owned were seized.

The documents also mention a storage unit in Fayetteville and "purchases made at" a Harbor Freight.

The case is expected to go to trial in 2027.
