Here is the info on the ND felony child abuse incidents:

Authorities say the couple’s 2-month-old girl needed surgery to relieve pressure on her brain, and suffered several broken ribs. Rex Cochran, 38, told doctors that he dropped the baby, who landed on her head after she “kicked back” while he was holding her, according to an affidavit of probable cause. Hospital staff in Williston concluded that the baby had a concussion, and that she needed to be transferred to a hospital in Minot for further care.

Doctors in Minot found a skull fracture and another head injury that required surgery in Fargo to relieve pressure on her brain.

And

In November 2015, the couple was arrested on a separate charge of Class B felony child abuse or neglect after doctors discovered that their infant son had a fractured arm and leg.
Prosecutors allege that the boy was mistreated between Aug. 31, 2014 and Jan. 11, 2015. Rex Cochran is accused of injuring the baby, while Heather Cochrane allegedly failed to provide proper care for the boy.

Just dammit - why -- if the baby cries "too much," which seems to be the main reason for injuries, just put him/her down in the crib and close the door -- that's not what most of us would do, but in some cases it can save a baby's life.

If the baby is hungry, give him a bottle and he'll probably go to sleep.

Separate yourself from the child for a little while, cool off. That way the baby may grow up to be healthy & happy, and you won't spend your life as a hated person in prison for the rest of your life.

IMO serial abusers like this couple lack the ability to see beyond their anger and instead of reasoning through various solutions like you or I would they react on a primitive (and selfish) level. I suppose with some effective therapy they might learn to control themselves but since he's 39 and she's 31 IMO it's not likely.

They've both learned that they can pretty much do what they want without suffering major consequences and unless they're both finally removed from society they'll do what so many abusive parents do - have another baby... or should I say another victim?

But IMO the biggest problem with serial abusers like this is that they lack empathy for others and that's not something that can be learned or even forced upon them. They both need to spend time in prison!
