The body of Candace Elaine Pickens, 23, was found at Jones Park. Near her was her son , Zachaeus Latese Waters

Police say around 6 a.m., a jogger found the body of Candace Elaine Pickens, 23, at Jones Park.



Near her was her son , Zachaeus Latese Waters. The 3-year-old boy was found with life-threatening injuries. He was taken Mission Hospital at 6:20 a.m.

According to the medical examiner, Candace was shot in the face. The medical examiner also believes time of death was sometime early Thursday morning.

I am under the impression that this is a result of something we see WAY to commonly here on WS. Something that women are blessed with the ability to do for 9 months. But something that not everyone is happy about happening. JMO. :-(

Sad. I hope the boy is okay. Sounds like family are involved (in being able to care for him, I mean), which is good. Losing an eye isn't great but he is alive albeit in critical condition.

Then he can be tried on at least 3 serious counts -- 2:shame: for double homicide then -- of her and her unborn baby -- and attempted murder of her son.

The Columbus Police Department said they also rescued a 21-year-old female hostage when they arrested Dixon.

Late Friday afternoon, a Buncombe County Medical Examiner confirmed that Pickens was pregnant when she was killed...

Family members tell News 13 the little boy he lost his left eye, and the next few days are critical. [He] had just turned 3-years-old on Wednesday.

According to the medical examiner, Candace was also shot in the face; in the cheek at point-blank range.

A grand jury has returned a true bill of indictment against Nathaniel Elijah Dixon for the malicious maiming of 3-year-old Zachaeus Waters.
