I wonder if they have some really good solid evidence, like someone said some video of the crime . I noticed they are not really referring to him as a person of interest but pretty much saying he did it. And they aren't putting a picture out there, minor or not saying to be on the lookout for him. They have actually done that with minors here that were wanted for questioning etc.

No mention yet of hunting trail cam footage the two on the ATV's were checking out?

I agree. The 17 yo is being sought for two counts of first-degree murder.

People states that a suspect is in custody. I hadn’t heard that from local outlets. Wonder if they got it wrong or if they know something the locals don’t??
I read the statement also, "The Orange County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina has arrested a suspect for the shooting deaths of two teens who were previously reported missing." - People.com Yet nothing locally so far.

"Hillsborough, NC (September 20, 2022) – Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood announced this afternoon that the investigation into the deaths of Devin Clark, 18, and Lyric Woods, 14, led authorities to seek a juvenile petition against a 17 year old for two counts of first-degree murder. Juvenile court personnel with the Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention filed the petition this afternoon." Link: Press Releases | ocso

I don't think People states the suspect in custody but same as local reports. From link quoted by OP:

"We will now work with local, state, and federal authorities to apprehend and present the suspect to the court system."

I highly doubt that People knows something that the local tv news channels do not. The local news outlets here seem to have long-standing, good working relationships with local LE departments. When I looked at People online just now, it does not mention anyone being in custody, but if they are claiming there is someone, I think they are mistaken. JMO

In small communities everybody knows everybody
She may have had a brother or sister that was a junior at that school. School activities football and basketball ball games…….
I hope that it was not hate crime.
Yeah. We have so many high schools in my local area; a mix of public and private and everyone knows everyone. The kids all connect through social media, football games, friends of friends of friends….my 9th grade son was at a “party” just last weekend with kids from 4 different schools and all friends. It’s not that uncommon. I hope it wasn’t a hate crime either :(

I read on one of the MSM links posted in here that the trail camera’s were off a ways, not in the area and no footage on them.

Yes, that's what I read, too. One thing I've been wondering, though, is if VIPER (which is the LE agency responsible for state-wide communications and specifically thanked by LE when they announced the identification of the suspect) had its own security cameras around its towers.

Tower space will be offered to VIPER participants on State Highway Patrol owned towers for local agency paging antennas.

IMO Viper was thanked because they were able to provide a talk group which directs multiple agencies to a specific channel to communicate statewide.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard the police thank VIPER before in the 15+ years I’ve lived here.

Here's what I saw about that:

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said ... there is no trail camera footage of the murders or of the murder scene.

I thought I would wake up this morning to a new development!

Not to beat a dead horse, but just because there are no trail (i.e., privately owned hunting) cameras does not mean that there are no cameras, there are just no *hunting* cameras. Just because a camera did not capture the murder or the scene, they could nevertheless have walked by a security camera (which is not a trail camera).

If they haven't got him yet, he is on the run. They need to issue a BOLO (be on the look out) before somebody else gets hurt, as he is armed.
