looking for evidence...City of Rocky Mount Press Release
"At the request of the Nash County Sheriff's Department and other local law enforcement agencies, the gates of the Tar River Water Supply Reservoir are being lowered Friday afternoon.
Gates will be raised to normal Saturday.
The purpose is to create a reduced downstream river flow on Sunday, which will improve effectiveness of an ongoing evidence search.
The reservoir level may drop to 2 feet below normal, and is expected to recover steadily beginning Saturday afternoon.
The downstream river at Highway 97 is currently under 6 feet, which is 15 feet below minor flood stage in Rocky Mount. Downstream flooding is not expected, but river levels will rise this evening and Saturday morning.
The gate lowering will cause an increase in river flow which could affect people standing on rocks in the river or wash a tackle box downstream."
