It would have made more sense had she fallen on the front steps, without a handrail, but she fell on the back steps according to this article.

"A deputy on scene confirmed to CBS 17 that Lynn Keel's first wife, Elizabeth Bess Edwards Keel, died at the same home on Jan. 1, 2006. He told investigators she fell on the back steps and died."

Helicopters, K9s brought in to search for missing Nash County woman

The house looks ramshackle and unkept. It wouldn't surprise me if there were no railings at the back, as well.

Josh Powell killed himself and his kids, three years after his wife’s suspicious disappearance.

That was a highly unusual set of circumstances, not to mention the unique psychology of Josh Powell (to put it mildly).

Law enforcement will still want to arrest this guy as soon as possible, but a guy who kills his wife in a fit of rage, doesn’t usually turn on his kids.

Oh, I'm sure she's just out and about with her acquaintances and will be back soon, after she's run all of her errands.;)

I think her husband happened.

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

One wife murdered, another the victim of a suspicious “accident.”

I think the two deaths are the result of the same perpetrator.
Yep -- agree. I think her husband happened, too. I think he had a hair-trigger temper and off'ed both of them.
Who knoze what triggered the first wife's "fall."
I think when Diana mentioned a divorce, he flew into a rage...
It would be interesting to know what his friends, co-workers, family would say about him and his temper.

We obviously don’t know much about his first wife’s death, but I’m leaning towards that one perhaps being premeditated, with some financial motive.

It looks like he staged that one well, and it doesn’t look as haphazard as this one, which I see as being indicative of some sort of precipitating argument, likely about divorce.

Yeah, that’s spectacularly unusual.

Ominous as all hell now.

People put their hands out to break a forward fall.

Backwards, it’s plausible, but still requires a pretty perfect impact on just the right surface.

When I slipped on ice and broke my shoulder, I was leaning forward to step up onto the curb. My feet went out from under me and I fell mostly sideways. My arm took the brunt of the fall but my head hit the curb hard enough to leave a bruise and a headache on the side of my forehead right above my eye. And that was with snow to cushion me.

I think it probably wasn't a natural fall, and I would agree hitting hard enough to kill a person would be a fluke, but I can believe it would be possible, hypothetically.

Sheriff: Body found Tuesday is missing Nash County woman

[...]

Stone said that investigators have reached out to Keel's family in Columbia.

"There is definitely foul play afoot," he said Tuesday. He reiterated foul play as the cause in a Wednesday press conference.

"The cause of death was the act of someone," Stone said. He added that investigators believe the body had been where it was found since Keel was reported missing.
