"Reportedly, a silver bullet was recovered within the descendant's hair adjacent to the entrance of the gunshot wound," the report states.

According to the autopsy, performed at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, there was no exit wound associated with the bullet. The bullet traveled through the left side of Frank McCutcheon's head and was recovered along the right side of his head. The bullet was fragmented.

Any news on this? I cannot believe this has not resulted in an arrest or at the very least the naming of a POI.

Who knows?! It seemed to be an open and shut kind of case.

JMO, but I think this death is very suspicious.

By "open and shut"... do you believe it was suicide, or ??

No, death by gunshot other than by deceased. It sounds very, very suspicious. But maybe it's not what we all thought it appeared to be.
Or, they can't prove it.

On anniversary of plastic surgeon's death, cold case remains a mystery

http://www.weny.com/story/35886299/on-anniversary-of-plastic-surgeons-death-cold-case-remains-a-mystery

Sunday, July 16, will mark the one-year anniversary of Dr. Frank McCutcheon's death. His brother, John McCutcheon, said he won't rest until someone is arrested for his brother's shooting.

John McCutcheon said he has met with Sheriff Van Duncan and detectives and they've been open about certain information and talked with him about investigation's status.

"They've assured me it's a very active case. They've got several detectives still on it," John McCutcheon said.

But he pointed to one possible reason for delays.

"One crime lab in North Carolina, apparently, is extremely slow. But I don't know, maybe they're not slow, maybe they're overloaded," he said.

On anniversary of plastic surgeon's death, cold case remains a mystery

I don’t think it’s ever been officially reported that the gun found outside of the house in the ivy was “the gun”.

From your link:

I know the gun's found out in the yard," he said. (Frank McCutcheon’s brother John)
And this:
John McCutcheon said he had some idea his brother may have been struggling. But he added that his brother never elaborated, because he wasn't the type of man who would want to burden his family with personal problems.
"You know, he'd tell me that the practice was tough, having problems so to speak. Of course, plastic surgery is mainly cash," John McCutcheon said.

Wow. . . I've long wondered if anything was going to come of this case. I am guessing the wife was LE's primary suspect all along, and they just had to gain enough evidence to indict her. I am glad the case has not gone cold.

Thank goodness. I have hoped if she was involved they would be able to charge her!
