MISSING PERSON – CABARRUS COUNTY
The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a missing elderly male, 78-year-old, James Thomas Kluttz.
On January 1, 2026, at 7:41 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a missing person at 4129 Lower Stone Church Road. Mr. Kluttz was last seen at approximately 7:40 a.m. by a family member, but later realized Mr. Kluttz was missing at approximately 4:00 p.m.
Description and medical information:
• Believed to be wearing camouflage overalls and a red and black toboggan
• Has diabetes and wears a Libre 3 insulin monitor on his arm
• Blind in his left eye, but otherwise physically fit
The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents in the Lower Stone Church Road area and surrounding neighborhoods to be on the lookout for Mr. Kluttz and to check any exterior security cameras, trail cameras, or doorbell (Ring) cameras for footage that may show him walking or traveling through the area.

The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office has deployed drones and their land search team (SVR) in the area and is working in partnership with the following agencies to support a coordinated, multi-agency response:

- Cabarrus County Squad 410
- Cabarrus County Emergency Management
- Rimer Volunteer Fire Department
- North Carolina State Highway Patrol (helicopter)
