GUILTY NC - Johnny Marlowe for circumcising newborn sons, Kings Creek, 2008

  • #21
Being Mormon doesn't mean you breed a passle of 33 kids. Not the LDS that belong to the Church anyway. These sects may think that way but they are not of the Church. LDS does NOT support polygamy! As a matter of fact Utah would not be a State if it did. Sects may think what they will but that doesn't represent the real Church.

And if this father mutilated his kids than I paid someone to do it to my own sons when they were circumcised at 8 days old. We even had a party and let other people see! As a matter of fact if I had this done at the hospital a mohel would still have to find a small piece to cut away anyway. A mohel may be a doctor or not, many are not. And it's not the medical part that matters in our book, it's the religious standing of the mohel.

I think polygamy is horrible. That said, their argument is sound that they represent they in fact represent the true church. They feel as if a critical component of their religious faith was outlawed due to public pressure and no longer have the legal right to practice their religion freely.

WHat?? Easily gotten medicaid?? IMO you do not have children if you cannot afford them.
Thanks for saying this, Amraann. I totally agree. It's called being responsible.

This was posted just one hour ago and shows just how contentious this topic is:

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/588929/mitt_romney_his_mormon_religious_beliefs.html

Without a doubt, Romney's religion hurt his campaign. While few people openly discussed the views of the Mormon Church, officially known as Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, even fewer people actually understand what the Mormon's believe. Most people think of Mormon's as "those people with more than one wife."

Yes, there are sects of the Mormon religion that believe in having more than one wife. Why on earth a man would want more than one woman confound this woman, but it's a life that some men choose. The Mormon Church, or the LDS Church, has officially said that they don't approve of this behavior.

That hasn't stopped people from practicing polygamy, just as Christian Churches believing in equal rights for African Americans has not stopped racism.

Here's a gaspworthy thing happening in Great Britain at present. they are now sooo politically correct, the following is happening:

Husbands living in a "harem" with multiple wives have been cleared to claim state benefits for all their different partners.
A Muslim man with four spouses - which is permitted under Islamic law - could receive £10,000 (19,458.10 USD) a year in income support alone.
He could also be entitled to more generous housing and council tax benefit, to reflect the fact his household needs a bigger property.

i would have ulcers if i'd remained in Britain!

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints do not condone polygamy.

i once lived in Utah for a year. and learned a lot.

I am not saying he did this because he didn't have medical coverage. I am saying what he did is no different than what Moyles do. All he had to do was use a brand new sterilized blade. It's not rocket science.

As long as circumcision is legal than I have no problem with it. It's no different than removing a child's splinter with a needle or piercing your own child's ears or pulling out a loose tooth.

Prenatal care? Please. It's not illegal to not get prenatal care. There are mother out there delivering babies everyday addicted to illegal drugs, they're not in jail!

Who or what is Moyles?
Circumcision IS legal...but obviously if charges are being brought upon this man then what he did is NOT legal.
And I also don't recall saying it was illegal to not get prenatal care. I said he "denied" the two women the right to get prenatal care, and that I did not think he did so because of financial reasons.
Please do not put words in my mouth.

Well, obviously this man isn't worried about whether or not he can afford them. But yes, it is very easy to get medicaid IF you are preg. and IF you have no insurance. At least it is in GA.

But you have to admit that people do have children they can't afford, and in this case, that is what happened.

*skips the Mormon question* - Polygamy is illegal in this country, sorry.

And this so-called "father" was mutilating his children with a knife, and he could have killed them if they bled to death. So good luck to him in jail, and I hope he never gets out, whatever his religious persuasion. Evil is evil.

:behindbar :behindbar :behindbar :behindbar :behindbar :behindbar

Thank you! Finally someone agrees with me that this man was an idiot to do this.

A mohel is a Jewish man who performs the Jewish ritual of Brit milah (the covenant of circumcision). A mohel is specially trained in circumcision and the ceremony surrounding circumcision. Mohels are often, but not always, rabbis or medical doctors and sometimes both.

I do not know why it is legal for a mohel or doctor to circumsize an infant boy, but child abuse for a father to do so.

I'm wondering the same thing SCM. A medical degree is apparently not required. I would not want my husband to perform circumcision on my children but what is illegal about it?

Personally, I think all circumcision on infants is abuse but I don't see doctors being charged with it.

White Rain, I agree this guy was an idiot but I don't see what was illegal about him performing this rather than a doctor or a mohel (sp?).

Thanks SD...for awhile I thought I was alone in thought...

Thanks SCM...I honestly have NEVER heard of this....learn something new everyday right?

No, White Rain, that was my first thought...what an idiot! Most fathers would rather a trained professional performed the circumcision. This guy sounds like a total control freak with denying prenatal care to the two women who bore him eleven children. He wanted complete control over everyone, imo.

You and I are of like mind concerning circumcision.

That said, I understand that it is very much the fashion in this country (though I think that is slowly changing) and, for Jews, it is an integral part of their religion. I do not think parents who circumcise their children consider it abuse and, with rare (but horrible) exception, most circumcisions do not cause the child any longlasting problems or discomfort.

Like you - though - I am curious as to why what this man did was illegal.

It's also called a Bris - the ceremony where the child is circumcised (8 days after birth, I believe) in front of God and everybody (family and friends). It's usually done in the child's home and there's a big party afterwards!:woohoo:

I've never had the privilege to attend one.

It is illegal to preform surgical procedures without a medical license or certification (as in the case of mohelim). The clamps used in circumcision are specially designed to reduce bleeding and trauma to the glands and nerve endings. Mohelim don't use clamps but they still have been trained in proper sterilization and preventative measures. Using a utility knife is not only barbaric and dangerous it is just plain cruel.

You're welcome! :blowkiss:

Why are people assuming this *&^%%&% fool did this to his sons for religious reasons? Was a ceremony mentioned?

Has anyone heard of infectious bacteria? Or pain? What did he do, give them a shot of whiskey? This is not the wild frontier, ya'll, and children do have some rights.

This was abuse, and I wish people would put themselves in the place of these little boys when a father is coming at them with a knife, ok? Just use your imaginations just a little, if you have one?
