Teen...19...adult. She is allowed to leave and go do whatever she wants just like any other 19yo.
If they have a good reason then let's hear it. Better yet, get a warrant. Otherwise, not good enough reasons IMO.

You say 'if there is a good reason, let's hear it.'

And yet, when I replied to your post, and I explained what the reason could be, you took only three words of my post, and cut and pasted them:

'the missing teen'

So are you saying that the fact that she is chronologically a teen is the ONLY relevant fact? You ignored that she is reportedly special needs and has the mental comprehension of a 7 yr old.

My mother is a fully grown adult. She had a long successful career in business and raised a wonderful family. But she cannot come and go as she pleases or make her own financial or medical decisions because she is 92 and her mind has regressed somewhat and she cannot logically think these things through. For her own protection, my older brother has to make those important decisions for her.

My 7 yr old granddaughter cannot come and go and do whatever she wants, because she cannot fully care for herself. She would be vulnerable if she took a bus downtown by herself. Or climbed into a man's vehicle at 2 am by herself.

Why do you assume that this 'missing teen', who has the same mental abilities as my 92 yr old mother and my 7 yr old grand daughter, has the ability to make her own decisions about where to go at 2 am in her pyjamas?

And still nothing new..

(sitting on my hands....)

Very frightened for this young woman. It's been nearly 2 weeks.
Her parents must be besides themselves. May Kaitlin be found safe.

We look for even capable adults who are unaccounted for. If they find her, she is alive and well and says she is happy where she is, then great. But there is disturbing information that the police obviously think is worth sharing to locate her and the man she was last seen with. We have seen this exact situation many times. And it never ends well, to be honest.

Although that is technically true, I’m going to have to completely disagree with you, respectfully.
When someone has a cognitive impairment they generally are younger at heart and naive. They may be XYZ age over 18 but their mind is not. They are more impulsive, they tend to not think logically, have poor judgment, and they are very trusting of others, even strangers.
moo.

ETA: I didn’t see others comments that addressed this ridiculously ignorant troll-like comment, until after I posted my response.
Well said @katydid23 !

If she has the mentality of a 7 yo then it is likely someone has guardianship of her and she is not, in fact, permitted to make her own decisions. Such as, leaving in the middle of the night with a strange man.

I worked with adults with disabilities for 16 years. Most were not interdicted, even though they couldn't honestly make many decisions without assistance. But, legally they were independent. I dont think it matters here, though. If this was a regular 19 year old who left in the middle of the night with a man from the internet and wasn't seen again, we would still be looking. We all just know that her situation makes her 1 million times more vulnerable. Which is why all of us are extremely concerned. Well, all except one hahahaaaaaa. Makes no difference. We won't stop looking for her!

Kaitlin has been missing for a month now. There is an article in today's Fayetteville Observer that finally gives a few more details. There are still a lot of questions, and I'm amazed that LE still doesn't know the identity of the man. I wish that the national media would pick up the story, because she could be anywhere now.

Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office missing young Fayetteville woman

From the article (there is more at the link):

My daughter Katlin, is outgoing. She’s very friendly, she talks to anybody,” Benjamin said. “She is 19 physically, but she is mentally disabled and has the mind of a 7-year-old.”

The mother said the man believed to be involved in her daughter’s disappearance is about 65-years-old.

“That man is like her grandfather's age,” she said.

Days before her daughter disappeared, Kaitlin and her 21-year-old brother met the man at a Family Dollar in Fayetteville, Benjamin said. The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office has publicized a surveillance picture from that meeting in hopes of identifying him.

“The man in that photo, he’s not related to us, he’s unknown,” Benjamin said.

The mother said, the only thing she knows about him, is that his first name is Chris.

Benjamin believes the man made “promises” to her daughter.

“He coached her out of her bedroom window. My child has never ran away before, never tried to do this,” she said.

Kaitlin took a backpack, her cell phone, and her tablet with her, her mom said.

Benjamin said the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office told her Kaitlin's phone pinged in Miami on Feb. 7 or Feb. 8 and in Orlando, Florida on Feb. 15.

I'm curious whether this was a pre-arranged meeting or they all happened to be at the Family Dollar at the same time when they crossed paths. LE should consider releasing any pertinent details regarding conversations between Kaitlin, her brother, and the man. The subject matter could possibly hold information that would lead to tips of his ID. For example, if they spoke about a particular topic like similar interests and hobbies or places they both/all like to visit. I can't help but wonder what kind of "promises" mom thinks "Chris" made to Kaitlin. MOO

I'm just shocked he hasn't been recognized yet. There are 3 very good photos on the sheriff's page. A car, the surveillance, and one with his bike.

Does she take medication that she might need everyday?

I wonder what 'the promises' were, as well. Since she took a packed bag and her tablet, he might have promised her a place to live, on her own. I know that minors with mental disabilities, who are in their late teens, can get very impatient and frustrated, at not being able to do all the things their peers, the same age, are allowed to do. Like get their own cars, move away to college alone, get a good job, etc.

She may have been frustrated, feeling she was over protected, treated like a child, when she probably was feeling like a 19 yr old, emotionally, hormonally, etc. It can be a very hard on the teens to deal with everything.

Just because she has the mental comprehension of a 7-year-old, it doesn't mean that she doesn't have the same wants and needs of any other 19-year-old girl.

Bump. Can't believe this is so quiet :(

I get what you're saying however, we have a person who has comprehension/ mental capacity that makes her a child, THEN, we have an approx 65yr old who could be with her. There is most certainly a danger for her well being. What if she changed her mind? what if she wants to go home? Who's to say she has the ability to call home. All IMO
